1 Samuel 20
1 David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said to Jonathan, “What have I done? What is my iniquity? What is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?”
Y David huyó de Najot, que es en Rama, y vínose delante de Jonatán, y dijo: ¿Qué he hecho? ¿Qué es mi maldad? ¿O qué es mi pecado contra tu padre que él procura quitarme mi vida?
2 He said to him, “Far from it; you will not die. Behold, my father does nothing either great or small, but that he discloses it to me. Why would my father hide this thing from me? It is not so.”
Y él le dijo: En ninguna manera. No morirás. He aquí que mi padre ninguna cosa hará, grande ni pequeña, que no me la descubra. ¿Por qué pues me encubrirá mi padre este negocio? No será así.
3 David swore moreover, and said, “Your father knows well that I have found favor in your eyes; and he says, ‘Don’t let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved;’ but truly as Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”
Y David volvió a jurar, diciendo: Tu padre sabe claramente, que yo he hallado gracia delante de tus ojos: y dirá en sí: No sepa esto Jonatán, porque no haya pesar: y ciertamente vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que apenas hay un paso entre mí y la muerte.
4 Then Jonathan said to David, “Whatever your soul desires, I will even do it for you.”
Y Jonatán dijo a David: Qué dice tu alma, que yo lo haré por ti.
5 David said to Jonathan, “Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to dine with the king; but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field to the third day at evening.
Y David respondió a Jonatán: He aquí que mañana será nueva luna, y yo acostumbro sentarme con el rey a comer: mas tú me dejarás que me esconda en el campo hasta la tarde del tercero día:
6 If your father misses me at all, then say, ‘David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem, his city; for it is the yearly sacrifice there for all the family.’
Si tu padre hiciere mención de mí, dirás: Rogóme mucho que le dejase ir presto a Belén su ciudad; porque todos los del linaje tienen allá sacrificio aniversario.
7 If he says, ‘It is well,’ your servant shall have peace; but if he is angry, then know that evil is determined by him.
Si él dijere: Bien está: tu siervo tiene paz. Mas si se enojare, sabe que la malicia es en él consumada.
8 Therefore deal kindly with your servant, for you have brought your servant into a covenant of Yahweh with you; but if there is iniquity in me, kill me yourself, for why should you bring me to your father?”
Harás pues misericordia con tu siervo, (pues que trajiste contigo a tu siervo en alianza de Jehová, ) que si maldad hay en mí, tú me mates, que no hay necesidad de traerme hasta tu padre.
9 Jonathan said, “Far be it from you; for if I should at all know that evil were determined by my father to come on you, then wouldn’t I tell you that?”
Y Jonatán le dijo: Esto nunca te acontezca: mas si yo entendiere ser consumada la malicia de mi padre, para venir sobre ti, ¿no te lo había yo de descubrir?
10 Then David said to Jonathan, “Who will tell me if your father answers you roughly?”
Y David dijo a Jonatán: ¿Quién me dará la respuesta: o si tu padre te respondiere ásperamente?
11 Jonathan said to David, “Come! Let’s go out into the field.” They both went out into the field.
Y Jonatán dijo a David: Ven, salgamos al campo. Y saliéronse ambos al campo.
12 Jonathan said to David, “By Yahweh, the God of Israel, when I have sounded out my father about this time tomorrow, or the third day, behold, if there is good toward David, won’t I then send to you and disclose it to you?
Entonces dijo Jonatán a David: Jehová Dios de Israel, si preguntando yo a mi padre mañana a esta hora, o después de mañana, y si él me hablare bien de David, si entonces no enviare a ti, y te lo descubriere,
13 Yahweh do so to Jonathan and more also, should it please my father to do you evil, if I don’t disclose it to you and send you away, that you may go in peace. May Yahweh be with you as he has been with my father.
Jehová haga así a Jonatán, y esto le añada. Mas si a mi padre pareciere bien de hacerte mal, también te lo descubriré, y te enviaré y te irás en paz; y sea Jehová contigo, como fue con mi padre.
14 You shall not only show me the loving kindness of Yahweh while I still live, that I not die;
Y si yo viviere, harás conmigo misericordia de Jehová. Mas si fuere muerto,
15 but you shall also not cut off your kindness from my house forever, no, not when Yahweh has cut off every one of the enemies of David from the surface of the earth.”
No quitarás tu misericordia de mi casa perpetuamente. Cuando desarraigare Jehová los enemigos de David de la tierra uno a uno, quite también a Jonatán de su casa, y requiera Jehová de la mano de los enemigos de David.
16 So Jonathan made a covenant with David’s house, saying, “Yahweh will require it at the hand of David’s enemies.”
Y así Jonatán hizo alianza con la casa de David.
17 Jonathan caused David to swear again, for the love that he had to him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
Y tornó Jonatán a jurar a David, porque le amaba, que como a su alma le amaba.
18 Then Jonathan said to him, “Tomorrow is the new moon, and you will be missed, because your seat will be empty.
Y díjole Jonatán: Mañana es nueva luna, y tú serás echado menos, porque tu asiento estará vacío.
19 When you have stayed three days, go down quickly and come to the place where you hid yourself when this started, and remain by the stone Ezel.
Estarás pues tres días, y luego descenderás, y vendrás al lugar donde estabas escondido el día de trabajo, y esperarás junto a la piedra de Ezel.
20 I will shoot three arrows on its side, as though I shot at a mark.
Y yo tiraré tres saetas hacia aquel lado, como ejercitándome al blanco.
21 Behold, I will send the boy, saying, ‘Go, find the arrows!’ If I tell the boy, ‘Behold, the arrows are on this side of you. Take them;’ then come, for there is peace to you and no danger, as Yahweh lives.
Y luego enviaré el criado, diciéndole: Vé, busca las saetas. Y si dijere al mozo: He allí las saetas más acá de ti, tómalas: tú vendrás, porque paz tienes, y nada hay de mal, vive Jehová.
22 But if I say this to the boy, ‘Behold, the arrows are beyond you,’ then go your way, for Yahweh has sent you away.
Mas si yo dijere al mozo así: He allí las saetas adelante de ti: tú vete, porque Jehová te ha enviado.
23 Concerning the matter which you and I have spoken of, behold, Yahweh is between you and me forever.”
Y cuanto a las palabras que yo y tú hemos hablado, sea Jehová para siempre entre mí y ti.
24 So David hid himself in the field. When the new moon had come, the king sat himself down to eat food.
David pues se escondió en el campo, y fue la nueva luna, y el rey se asentó a comer pan.
25 The king sat on his seat, as at other times, even on the seat by the wall; and Jonathan stood up, and Abner sat by Saul’s side, but David’s place was empty.
Y el rey se asentó en su silla, como solía, en el asiento de la pared: y Jonatán se levantó, y sentóse Abner al lado de Saul, y el lugar de David estaba vacío.
26 Nevertheless Saul didn’t say anything that day, for he thought, “Something has happened to him. He is not clean. Surely he is not clean.”
Aquel día Saul no dijo nada, diciendo entre sí: Habrále acontecido algo, no está limpio, porque no estará limpio.
27 On the next day after the new moon, the second day, David’s place was empty. Saul said to Jonathan his son, “Why didn’t the son of Jesse come to eat, either yesterday, or today?”
El día siguiente, el segundo día de la nueva luna, aconteció también que el asiento de David estaba vacío: y Saul dijo a Jonatán su hijo: ¿Por qué no ha venido el hijo de Isaí hoy ni ayer al pan?
28 Jonathan answered Saul, “David earnestly asked permission of me to go to Bethlehem.
Y Jonatán respondió a Saul: David me pidió que le dejase ir hasta Belén.
29 He said, ‘Please let me go, for our family has a sacrifice in the city. My brother has commanded me to be there. Now, if I have found favor in your eyes, please let me go away and see my brothers.’ Therefore he has not come to the king’s table.”
Y dijo: Ruégote que me dejes ir, porque tenemos sacrificio del linaje en la ciudad, y mi hermano mismo me lo ha mandado: por tanto si he hallado gracia en tus ojos, escaparme he ahora, y visitaré a mis hermanos: y por esto no ha venido a la mesa del rey.
30 Then Saul’s anger burned against Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a perverse rebellious woman, don’t I know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness?
Entonces Saul se encendió contra Jonatán, y díjole: ¡Hijo de la perversa y rebelde! ¿no entiendo yo que tú has elegido al hijo de Isaí para confusión tuya, y para confusión de la vergüenza de tu madre?
31 For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, you will not be established, nor will your kingdom. Therefore now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die!”
Porque todo el tiempo que el hijo de Isaí viviere sobre la tierra, ni tú serás firme, ni tú reino, Envía pues, y tráemele en esta hora, porque ha de morir.
32 Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, “Why should he be put to death? What has he done?”
Y Jonatán respondió a su padre Saul, y díjole: ¿Por qué morirá? ¿Qué ha hecho?
33 Saul cast his spear at him to strike him. By this Jonathan knew that his father was determined to put David to death.
Entonces Saul le arrojó una lanza por herirle: y Jonatán entendió que su padre estaba determinado de matar a David.
34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no food the second day of the month; for he was grieved for David, because his father had treated him shamefully.
Y Jonatán se levantó de la mesa con ira de furor, y no comió pan el segundo día de la nueva luna; porque tenía dolor a causa de David, y porque su padre le había afrentado.
35 In the morning, Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little boy with him.
Otro día de mañana Jonatán salió al campo al tiempo aplazado con David, y un mozo pequeño con él:
36 He said to his boy, “Run, find now the arrows which I shoot.” As the boy ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.
Y dijo a su mozo: Corre y busca las saetas que yo tirare. Y como el muchacho iba corriendo, él tiraba la saeta adelante de él.
37 When the boy had come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the boy, and said, “Isn’t the arrow beyond you?”
Y llegando el muchacho adonde estaba la saeta que Jonatán había tirado, Jonatán dio voces tras el muchacho, diciendo: ¿La saeta no está más adelante de ti?
38 Jonathan cried after the boy, “Go fast! Hurry! Don’t delay!” Jonathan’s boy gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.
Y tornó a dar voces Jonatán tras el muchacho: Dáte priesa prestamente; no te pares. Y el muchacho de Jonatán cogió las saetas, y vínose a su señor.
39 But the boy didn’t know anything. Only Jonathan and David knew the matter.
Y el muchacho ninguna cosa entendió, solamente Jonatán y David entendían el negocio.
40 Jonathan gave his weapons to his boy, and said to him, “Go, carry them to the city.”
Y Jonatán dio sus armas a su muchacho, y díjole: Vete, y llévalas a la ciudad.
41 As soon as the boy was gone, David arose out of the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times. They kissed one another and wept with one another, and David wept the most.
Y como el muchacho fue ido, David se levantó de la parte del mediodía, e inclinóse tres veces postrado en tierra; y besándose el uno al otro, lloraron el uno con el otro, aunque David lloró más.
42 Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, because we have both sworn in Yahweh’s name, saying, ‘Yahweh is between me and you, and between my offspring and your offspring, forever.’” He arose and departed; and Jonathan went into the city.
Y Jonatán dijo a David: Vé en paz: que ambos habemos jurado por el nombre de Jehová, diciendo: Jehová sea entre mí y ti; entre mi simiente, y entre tu simiente, para siempre. Y él se levantó, y se fue: y Jonatán se entró en la ciudad.
