1 Samuel 17
1 Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah in Ephesdammim.
Y los Filisteos juntaron sus ejércitos para la guerra, y congregáronse en Soco, que es en Judá, y asentaron campo entre Soco y Azeca en el término de Donmim.
2 Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and encamped in the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
Y también Saul y los varones de Israel se juntaron, y asentaron el campo en el valle del Alcornoque: y ordenaron la batalla contra los Filisteos.
3 The Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
Y los Filisteos estaban sobre el un monte de la una parte, e Israel estaba sobre el otro monte de la otra parte; y el valle estaba entre ellos.
4 A champion out of the camp of the Philistines named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span went out.
Y salió un varón del campo de los Filisteos entre los dos campos, el cual se llamaba Goliat de Get, y tenía de altura seis codos y un palmo.
5 He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he wore a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze.
Y traía un almete de acero en su cabeza, vestido de unas corazas de planchas: y el peso de las corazas tenía cinco mil siclos de metal.
6 He had bronze shin armor on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders.
Y sobre sus pies traía grebas de hierro, y un escudo de acero en sus hombros.
7 The staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. His shield bearer went before him.
El hasta de su lanza era como un enjullo de un telar, y el hierro de su lanza tenía seiscientos siclos de hierro, y su escudero iba delante de él.
8 He stood and cried to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you servants to Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.
Y paróse, y dio voces a los escuadrones de Israel, diciéndoles: ¿Para qué salís a dar batalla? ¿No soy yo el Filisteo, y vosotros los siervos de Saul? Escogéd un varón de vosotros que venga contra mí.
9 If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you will be our servants and serve us.”
Si él pudiere pelear conmigo, y me venciere, nosotros seremos vuestros siervos. Y si yo pudiere más que él, y le venciere, vosotros seréis nuestros siervos, y nos serviréis.
10 The Philistine said, “I defy the armies of Israel today! Give me a man, that we may fight together!”
Y añadió el Filisteo: Yo he deshonrado hoy el campo de Israel: dádme varón que pelee conmigo.
11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.
Y oyendo Saul y todo Israel estas palabras del Filisteo, fueron espantados, y hubieron gran miedo.
12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons. The man was an elderly old man in the days of Saul.
Y David era hijo de un varón Éufrateo de Belén de Judá, cuyo nombre era Isaí, el cual tenía ocho hijos: y era este hombre en el tiempo de Saul viejo, y de grande edad entre los hombres.
13 The three oldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle; and the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
Y los tres hijos mayores de Isaí habían ido a seguir a Saul en la guerra. Y los nombres de sus tres hijos, que habían ido a la guerra eran, Eliab el primogénito: el segundo Abinadab: y el tercero Samma.
14 David was the youngest; and the three oldest followed Saul.
Y David era el menor. Y habiendo ido los tres mayores tras Saul,
15 Now David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.
David había ido y vuelto de con Saul, para apacentar las ovejas de su padre en Belén.
16 The Philistine came near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
Venía pues aquel Filisteo por la mañana y a la tarde, y presentábase por cuarenta días.
17 Jesse said to David his son, “Now take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers;
E Isaí dijo a David su hijo: Toma ahora para tus hermanos un efa de esta cebada tostada, y estos diez panes, y llévalo presto al campo a tus hermanos.
18 and bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand; and see how your brothers are doing, and bring back news.”
Y estos diez quesos de leche llevarás al capitán, y vé a ver a tus hermanos, si están buenos, y tomarás prendas de ellos.
19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
Y Saul, y ellos, y todos los de Israel estaban al valle del Alcornoque peleando con los Filisteos.
20 David rose up early in the morning and left the sheep with a keeper, and took the provisions and went, as Jesse had commanded him. He came to the place of the wagons as the army which was going out to the fight shouted for the battle.
Y David se levantó de mañana, y dejando las ovejas a la guarda, cargóse y fuése, como Isaí le mandó: y vino a la trinchera al ejército, el cual había salido a la ordenanza, y ya tocaban alarma en batalla.
21 Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
Porque así los Israelitas como los Filisteos estaban en ordenanza, escuadrón contra escuadrón.
22 David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage and ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers.
Y David dejó la carga de sobre sí en mano del que guardaba el bagaje, y corrió al escuadrón, y como llegó, preguntaba por sus hermanos, si estaban buenos.
23 As he talked with them, behold, the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, came up out of the ranks of the Philistines, and said the same words; and David heard them.
Y estando él hablando con ellos, he aquí aquel varón que se ponía en medio de los dos campos, que se llamaba Goliat, Filisteo de Get, que subía de los escuadrones de los Filisteos, hablando las mismas palabras, las cuales David oyó.
24 All the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were terrified.
Y todos los varones de Israel que veían aquel varón, huían delante de él, y tenían gran temor.
25 The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. The king will give great riches to the man who kills him, and will give him his daughter, and will make his father’s house tax-free in Israel.”
Y cada uno de los de Israel decía: ¿No habéis visto a aquel varón que sube? él sube para deshonrar a Israel. Al que le venciere, el rey le enriquecerá de grandes riquezas, y le dará su hija, y hará franca la casa de su padre en Israel.
26 David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
Entonces habló David a los que estaban a par de él, diciendo: ¿Qué harán a aquel varón que venciere a este Filisteo, y quitare la deshonra de Israel? Porque ¿quién es este Filisteo incircunciso, para que deshonre los escuadrones del Dios viviente?
27 The people answered him in this way, saying, “So shall it be done to the man who kills him.”
Y el pueblo le respondió las mismas palabras, diciendo: Así se hará al tal varón que le venciere.
28 Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger burned against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the evil of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle.”
Y oyéndole hablar Eliab su hermano mayor con aquellos varones, Eliab se encendió en ira contra David, y dijo: ¿Para qué has descendido acá? ¿y a quién has dejado aquellas pocas ovejas en el desierto? Yo conozco tu soberbia y la malicia de tu corazón, que para ver la batalla has venido.
29 David said, “What have I now done? Is there not a cause?”
Y David respondió: ¿Qué he hecho ahora? ¿Estas, no son palabras?
30 He turned away from him toward another, and spoke like that again; and the people answered him again the same way.
Y apartándose de él hacia otros, habló lo mismo, y respondiéronle los del pueblo como primero.
31 When the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him.
Y fueron oídas las palabras que David había dicho, las cuales fueron recitadas delante de Saul: y él le hizo venir.
32 David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
Y dijo David a Saul: No desmaye ninguno a causa de él, tu siervo irá, y peleará con este Filisteo.
33 Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”
Y dijo Saul a David: No podrás tú ir contra aquel Filisteo para pelear con él, porque tú eres mozo, y él es hombre de guerra desde su juventud.
34 David said to Saul, “Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,
Y David respondió a Saul: Tu siervo era pastor en las ovejas de su padre, y venía un león, o un oso, y tomaba algún cordero de la manada;
35 I went out after him, struck him, and rescued it out of his mouth. When he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, struck him, and killed him.
Y salía yo tras él, y heríale, y escapába le de su boca: y si se levantaba contra mí, yo le echaba mano de la quijada, y le hería y mataba.
36 Your servant struck both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”
Fuese león, fuese oso, tu siervo le mataba; pues este Filisteo incircunciso será como uno de ellos, porque ha deshonrado al ejército del Dios viviente.
37 David said, “Yahweh, who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go! Yahweh will be with you.”
Y añadió David: Jehová que me ha librado de mano de león, y de mano de oso, él también me librará de la mano de este Filisteo. Y dijo Saul a David: Vé, y Jehová sea contigo.
38 Saul dressed David with his clothing. He put a helmet of bronze on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.
Y Saul vistió a David de sus ropas, y puso sobre su cabeza un almete de acero, y vistióle corazas.
39 David strapped his sword on his clothing and he tried to move, for he had not tested it. David said to Saul, “I can’t go with these, for I have not tested them.” Then David took them off.
Y ciñó David su espada sobre sus vestidos, y probó a andar: porque nunca lo había experimentado. Y dijo David a Saul: Yo no puedo andar con esto, porque nunca lo experimenté. Y echando de si David aquellas cosas,
40 He took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag which he had. His sling was in his hand; and he came near to the Philistine.
Tomó su cayado en su mano, y tomóse cinco piedras lisas del arroyo, y púsolas en el saco pastoril, y en el zurrón que traía, y fuése, su honda en su mano, hacia el Filisteo.
41 The Philistine walked and came near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him.
Y el Filisteo venía andando y acercándose a David, y su escudero delante de él.
42 When the Philistine looked around and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and had a good looking face.
Y como el Filisteo miró, y vio a David, túvole en poco, porque era mancebo, y rojo, y de hermoso parecer.
43 The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” The Philistine cursed David by his gods.
Y dijo el Filisteo a David: ¿Soy yo perro que vienes a mí con palos? Y maldijo a David por sus dioses.
44 The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and to the animals of the field.”
Y dijo el Filisteo a David: Ven a mí, y daré tu carne a las aves del cielo, y a las bestias del campo.
45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to you in the name of Yahweh of Armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
Y David dijo al Filisteo: Tú vienes a mí con espada, y lanza, y escudo; mas yo vengo a ti en el nombre de Jehová de los ejércitos, el Dios de los escuadrones de Israel, que tú has deshonrado.
46 Today, Yahweh will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you and take your head from off you. I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines today to the birds of the sky and to the wild animals of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
Jehová pues te entregará hoy en mi mano, y yo te venceré, y quitaré tu cabeza de ti: y daré los cuerpos de los Filisteos hoy a las aves del cielo, y a las bestias de la tierra, y sabrá toda la tierra, que hay Dios en Israel.
47 and that all this assembly may know that Yahweh doesn’t save with sword and spear; for the battle is Yahweh’s, and he will give you into our hand.”
Y toda esta congregación sabrá, que Jehová no salva con espada y lanza; porque de Jehová es la guerra, y él os entregará en nuestras manos.
48 When the Philistine arose, and walked and came near to meet David, David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
Y aconteció, que como el Filisteo se levantó para ir y llegarse contra David, David se dio priesa y corrió al combate contra el Filisteo.
49 David put his hand in his bag, took a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.
Y metiendo David su mano en el saco, tomó de allí una piedra, y tirósela con la honda, e hirió al Filisteo en la frente: y la piedra quedó hincada en su frente, y cayó en tierra sobre su rostro.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him; but there was no sword in David’s hand.
Y así venció David al Filisteo con honda y piedra: e hirió al Filisteo, y matóle, sin tener David espada en su mano.
51 Then David ran, stood over the Philistine, took his sword, drew it out of its sheath, killed him, and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
Entonces corrió David, y púsose sobre el Filisteo, y tomando su espada, y sacándola de su vaina, le mató, y cortóle con ella la cabeza. Y como los Filisteos vieron su gigante muerto, huyeron.
52 The men of Israel and of Judah arose and shouted, and pursued the Philistines as far as Gai and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath and to Ekron.
Y levantándose los de Israel y de Judá, dieron grita, y siguieron a los Filisteos hasta llegar al valle, y hasta las puertas de Accarón. Y cayeron heridos de los Filisteos por el camino de Saraim hasta Get, y Accarón.
53 The children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.
Y tornando los hijos de Israel de seguir los Filisteos, robaron su campo.
54 David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his armor in his tent.
Y David tomó la cabeza del Filisteo, y trájola a Jerusalem, y puso sus armas en su tienda.
55 When Saul saw David go out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, “Abner, whose son is this youth?” Abner said, “As your soul lives, O king, I can’t tell.”
Mas cuando Saul vio a David que salía a encontrarse con el Filisteo, dijo a Abner el general del ejército: Abner; ¿cúyo hijo es aquel mancebo? Y Abner respondió:
56 The king said, “Inquire whose son the young man is!”
Vive tu alma, oh rey, que no lo sé. Y el rey dijo: Pregunta, pues, cúyo hijo es aquel mancebo.
57 As David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
Y cuando David volvía de matar al Filisteo, Abner le tomó, y le llevó delante de Saul teniendo la cabeza del Filisteo en su mano.
58 Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, you young man?” David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”
Y díjole Saul: Mancebo, ¿cúyo hijo eres? Y David respondió: Yo soy hijo de tu siervo Isaí de Belén.
