1 Kings 3
1 Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into David’s city until he had finished building his own house, Yahweh’s house, and the wall around Jerusalem.
Salomón emparentó con Faraón, rey de Egipto, al tomar como esposa a la hija de Faraón. La llevó a la Ciudad de David mientras terminaba de edificar su propia casa, la Casa de Yavé y el muro alrededor de Jerusalén.
2 However, the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was not yet a house built for Yahweh’s name.
Sin embargo, el pueblo ofrecía sacrificios en los lugares altos, porque en aquellos tiempos no había sido edificada Casa al Nombre de Yavé.
3 Solomon loved Yahweh, walking in the statutes of David his father, except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.
Salomón amaba a Yavé y andaba en los caminos de su padre David, pero ofrecía sus sacrificios y ofrendas en los lugares altos.
4 The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
El rey iba a Gabaón para ofrecer allí sacrificios, porque aquél era el lugar alto principal. Salomón ofreció 1.000 holocaustos sobre aquel altar.
5 In Gibeon, Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.”
En Gabaón Yavé se apareció a Salomón en un sueño de noche. Y ʼElohim le dijo: Pide lo que quieras que Yo te dé.
6 Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.
Salomón respondió: Tú mostraste gran misericordia a tu esclavo David, mi padre, porque él anduvo delante de Ti con fidelidad, justicia y rectitud de corazón hacia Ti. Tú le conservaste esta gran misericordia y le diste un hijo que se siente en su trono, como hoy.
7 Now, Yahweh my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am just a little child. I don’t know how to go out or come in.
Ahora, oh Yavé, ʼElohim mío, Tú constituiste a tu esclavo como rey en lugar de mi padre David, aunque soy joven, y no sé cómo salir ni entrar.
8 Your servant is among your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can’t be numbered or counted for multitude.
Tu esclavo está en medio de tu pueblo, al cual escogiste, un pueblo tan numeroso que por su multitud no se puede contar ni calcular.
9 Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”
Concede a tu esclavo un corazón que sepa escuchar, para juzgar a tu pueblo y distinguir entre lo bueno y lo malo. Porque, ¿quién será capaz de juzgar a este pueblo tuyo tan grande?
10 This request pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
Agradó a ʼAdonay que Salomón pidiera esto.
11 God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have you asked for riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice,
ʼElohim le dijo: Porque pediste esto, y no una larga vida, ni riquezas para ti, ni la vida de tus enemigos, sino pediste inteligencia para administrar justicia,
12 behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, and after you none will arise like you.
ciertamente cumplo tu ruego y te doy un corazón sabio y entendido, como no hubo otro antes de ti, ni lo habrá después.
13 I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you for all your days.
También te concedo lo que no pediste, tanto riquezas como honores, de modo que no habrá entre los reyes un hombre como tú en todos tus días.
14 If you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”
Si andas en mis caminos para cumplir mis Estatutos y mis Mandamientos, como anduvo David tu padre, prolongaré tus días.
15 Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, and offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.
Salomón despertó, y ciertamente era un sueño. Volvió entonces a Jerusalén, se detuvo ante el Arca del Pacto de ʼAdonay. Ofreció holocaustos y sacrificios de paz e hizo un banquete para todos sus esclavos.
16 Then two women who were prostitutes came to the king, and stood before him.
Dos mujeres prostitutas llegaron ante el rey y se colocaron en pie delante de él.
17 The one woman said, “Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house. I delivered a child with her in the house.
Una de las mujeres dijo: ¡Ay, ʼadón mío! Esta mujer y yo vivimos en la misma casa. Cuando di a luz ella estaba conmigo en la casa.
18 The third day after I delivered, this woman delivered also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house.
Sucedió que tres días después de mi parto, esta mujer también dio a luz. Nosotras vivíamos juntas y ningún extraño estaba con nosotras en la casa. Solo nosotras dos.
19 This woman’s child died in the night, because she lay on it.
Una noche el hijo de esta mujer murió, porque ella se acostó sobre él.
20 She arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me while your servant slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
Se levantó a medianoche y tomó a mi hijo de junto a mí, pues tu esclava estaba dormida. Lo puso a su lado y a su hijo muerto lo puso a mi lado.
21 When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead; but when I had looked at him in the morning, behold, it was not my son whom I bore.”
Cuando me levanté por la mañana para amamantar a mi hijo, ¡ahí estaba muerto! Pero por la mañana lo observé bien, ¡y ciertamente no era mi hijo, el que yo di a luz!
22 The other woman said, “No! But the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son.” The first one said, “No! But the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.” They argued like this before the king.
Pero la otra mujer replicó: ¡No! Sino mi hijo es el vivo y tu hijo es el muerto. Y la primera volvió a decir: ¡No! ¡Tu hijo es el muerto y mi hijo es el vivo! Y disputaban muchísimo delante del rey.
23 Then the king said, “One says, ‘This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead one;’ and the other says, ‘No! But your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.’”
Entonces el rey dijo: Esta dice: Mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto. Y la otra dice: ¡No! Sino tu hijo es el muerto, y mi hijo el vivo.
24 The king said, “Get me a sword.” So they brought a sword before the king.
El rey dijo: ¡Tráiganme una espada! Cuando llevaron la espada ante el rey, él
25 The king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.”
dispuso: ¡Partan el niño vivo en dos, y den la mitad a la una y la otra mitad a la otra!
26 Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill him!” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours. Divide him.”
Pero entonces, la mujer de quien era el hijo vivo habló al rey, porque sus entrañas se conmovieron por su hijo. Y exclamó: ¡Ay, ʼadón mío! Den a ella el niño vivo, y no lo maten de ningún modo. Pero la otra dijo: Que no sea para mí ni para ti. ¡Pártanlo!
27 Then the king answered, “Give the first woman the living child, and definitely do not kill him. She is his mother.”
Entonces el rey dijo: ¡Denle a aquélla el niño vivo y no lo maten! Ella es su madre.
28 All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
Todo Israel oyó acerca de la sentencia que dio el rey, y tuvieron temor al rey, porque vieron que la sabiduría de ʼElohim estaba en su corazón para hacer justicia.
