Psalms 48

1 A Song [and] Psalm for the sons of Korah. Great [is] the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, [in] the mountain of his holiness.

Cantique. Psaume des fils de Coré. Grand est l’Eternel et justement glorifié, dans la ville de notre Dieu, sa sainte montagne.

2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, [is] mount Zion, [on] the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

Comme elle se dresse magnifique, joie de toute la terre, la montagne de Sion, aux flancs dirigés vers le Nord, la cité d’un roi puissant!

3 God is known in her palaces for a refuge.

Dieu réside en ses palais, il s’est fait connaître comme leur vrai rempart.

4 For lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.

Car voici, les rois s’étaient ligués, mais ensemble ils ont disparu.

5 They saw [it], [and] so they wondered; they were troubled, [and] hasted away.

C’Est qu’ils ont vu: aussitôt ils furent frappés de stupeur, l’épouvante les saisit; éperdus, ils s’enfuirent.

6 Fear took hold upon them there, [and] pain, as of a woman in travail.

Là un frisson s’empara d’eux, une angoisse comme d’une femme qui enfante:

7 Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.

par le vent d’Est, tu as brisé les vaisseaux de Tarsis.

8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. (Selah)

Ce que nous avions entendu, nous l’avons vu dans la ville de l’Eternel-Cebaot, la ville de notre Dieu: Dieu l’a affermie pour l’éternité. (Sélah)

9 We have thought of thy loving-kindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.

Nous nous représentons, ô Dieu, ta bonté, dans l’enceinte de ton sanctuaire.

10 According to thy name, O God, so [is] thy praise to the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

Comme ta renommée, ô Dieu, ainsi éclatent tes louanges jusqu’aux confins de la terre; ta droite est pleine de justice.

11 Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.

Qu’elle se réjouisse, la montagne de Sion, qu’elles se livrent à l’allégresse, les filles de Juda, en raison de tes jugements!

12 Walk about Zion, and go round her: number her towers.

Faites le tour de Sion, parcourez-la à la ronde, comptez ses tourelles.

13 Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell [it] to the generation following.

Fixez votre attention sur ses remparts, admirez ses palais, pour que vous puissiez raconter aux générations futures

14 For this God [is] our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide [even] to death.

que ce Dieu est notre Dieu pour l’éternité! C’Est lui qui nous dirigera jusqu’à l’heure de la mort.
