Job 9
1 Then Job answered and said,
Então Job respondeu, e disse:
2 I know [it to be] so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
Na verdade sei que assim é; porque como se justificaria o homem para com Deus?
3 If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
Se quizer contender com elle, nem a uma de mil coisas lhe poderá responder.
4 [He is] wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened [himself] against him, and hath prospered?
Elle é sábio de coração, e forte de forças: quem se endureceu contra elle, e teve paz?
5 Who removeth the mountains, and they know not: who overturneth them in his anger.
Elle é o que transporta as montanhas, sem que o sintam, e o que as transtorna no seu furor.
6 Who shaketh the earth out of her place, and its pillars tremble.
O que remove a terra do seu logar, e as suas columnas estremecem.
7 Who commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
O que falla ao sol, e não sae, e sella as estrellas.
8 Who alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.
O que só estende os céus, e anda sobre os altos do mar.
9 Who maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
O que faz a Ursa, o Orion, e o Setestrello, e as recamaras do sul.
10 Who doeth great things past finding out; yes, and wonders without number.
O que faz coisas grandes, que se não podem esquadrinhar: e maravilhas taes que se não podem contar.
11 Lo, he goeth by me, and I see [him] not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
Eis que passa por diante de mim, e não o vejo: e torna a passar perante mim, e não o sinto.
12 Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say to him, What doest thou?
Eis que arrebata; quem lh'o fará restituir? quem lhe dirá: Que é o que fazes?
13 [If] God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.
Deus não revogará a sua ira: debaixo d'elle se encurvam os auxiliadores soberbos.
14 How much less shall I answer him, [and] choose out my words [to reason] with him?
Quanto menos lhe responderia eu! ou escolheria diante d'elle as minhas palavras!
15 Whom, though I were righteous, [yet] would I not answer, [but] I would make supplication to my judge.
A quem, ainda que eu fosse justo, lhe não responderia: antes ao meu Juiz pediria misericordia.
16 If I had called, and he had answered me; [yet] I would not believe that he had hearkened to my voice.
Ainda que chamasse, e elle me respondesse, nem por isso creria que désse ouvidos á minha voz.
17 For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.
Porque me quebranta com uma tempestade, e multiplica as minhas chagas sem causa.
18 He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.
Nem me concede o respirar, antes me farta d'amarguras.
19 If [I speak] of strength, lo, [he is] strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time [to plead]?
Quanto ás forças, eis que elle é o forte: e, quanto ao juizo, quem me citará com elle?
20 If I justify myself, my own mouth will condemn me: [if I say], I [am] perfect, that also will prove me perverse.
Se eu me justificar, a minha bocca me condemnará: se fôr recto, então me declarará por perverso.
21 [Though] I [were] perfect, [yet] would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
Se fôr recto, não estimo a minha alma: deprezo a minha vida.
22 This [is] one [thing], therefore I said [it], he destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.
A coisa é esta; por isso eu digo que elle consome ao recto e ao impio.
23 If the scourge shall slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.
Matando o açoite de repente, então se ri da prova dos innocentes.
24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of its judges; if not, where, [and] who [is] he?
A terra se entrega na mão do impio; elle cobre o rosto dos juizes: se não é elle, quem é logo?
25 Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.
E os meus dias são mais velozes do que um correio: fugiram, e nunca viram o bem.
26 They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle [that] hasteth to the prey.
Passam como navios veleiros: como aguia que se lança á comida.
27 If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort [myself]:
Se eu disser: Me esquecerei da minha queixa, e mudarei o meu rosto, e tomarei alento;
28 I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.
Receio todas as minhas dôres, porque bem sei que me não terás por innocente.
29 [If] I am wicked, why then do I labor in vain?
E, sendo eu impio, por que trabalharei em vão?
30 If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
Ainda que me lave com agua de neve, e purifique as minhas mãos com sabão,
31 Yet wilt thou plunge me in the ditch, and my own clothes shall abhor me.
Ainda me submergirás no fosso, e os meus proprios vestidos me abominarão.
32 For [he is] not a man, as I [am], [that] I should answer him, [and] we should come together in judgment.
Porque elle não é homem, como eu, a quem eu responda, vindo juntamente a juizo.
33 Neither is there any judge between us, [that] might lay his hand upon us both.
Não ha entre nós arbitro que ponha a mão sobre nós ambos.
34 Let him take away his rod from me, and let not his fear terrify me:
Tire elle a sua vara de cima de mim, e não me amedronte o seu terror.
35 [Then] would I speak, and not fear him; but [it is] not so with me.
Então fallarei, e não o temerei; porque assim não estou comigo.
