Job 14

1 Man [that is] born of a woman [is] of few days, and full of trouble.

Èovjek roðen od žene kratka je vijeka i pun nemira.

2 He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

Kao cvijet nièe, i otsijeca se, i bježi kao sjen, i ne ostaje.

3 And dost thou open thy eyes upon such one, and bring me into judgment with thee?

I na takoga otvoraš oko svoje, i mene vodiš na sud sa sobom!

4 Who can bring a clean [thing] out of an unclean? not one.

Ko æe èisto izvaditi iz neèista? Niko.

5 Seeing his days [are] determined, the number of his months [is] with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

Izmjereni su dani njegovi, broj mjeseca njegovijeh u tebe je; postavio si mu meðu, preko koje ne može prijeæi.

6 Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as a hireling, his day.

Odvrati se od njega da poèine dokle ne navrši kao nadnièar dan svoj.

7 For there is hope of a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender branch will not cease.

Jer za drvo ima nadanja, ako se posijeèe, da æe se još omladiti i da neæe biti bez izdanaka;

8 Though its root shall become old in the earth, and its stock die in the ground;

Ako i ostari u zemlji korijen njegov i u prahu izumre panj njegov,

9 [Yet] through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

Èim osjeti vodu, opet napupi i pusti grane kao prisad.

10 But man dieth, and wasteth away: yes, man yieldeth his breath, and where [is] he?

A èovjek umire iznemogao; i kad izdahne èovjek, gdje je?

11 [As] the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:

Kao kad voda oteèe iz jezera i rijeka opadne i usahne,

12 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens [shall be] no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

Tako èovjek kad legne, ne ustaje više; dokle je nebesa neæe se probuditi niti æe se prenuti oda sna svojega.

13 O that thou wouldst hide me in the grave, that thou wouldst keep me secret, until thy wrath is past, that thou wouldst appoint me a set time, and remember me! (Sheol h7585)

O da me hoæeš u grobu sakriti i skloniti me dokle ne utoli gnjev tvoj, i da mi daš rok kad æeš me se opomenuti! (Sheol h7585)

14 If a man dieth, shall he live [again]? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change shall come.

Kad umre èovjek, hoæe li oživjeti? Sve dane vremena koje mi je odreðeno èekaæu dokle mi doðe promjena.

15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thy hands.

Zazvaæeš, i ja æu ti se odazvati; djelo ruku svojih poželjeæeš.

16 For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?

A sada brojiš korake moje, i ništa ne ostavljaš za grijeh moj.

17 My transgression [is] sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up my iniquity.

Zapeèaæeni su u tobocu moji prijestupi, i zavezuješ bezakonja moja.

18 And surely the mountain falling cometh to naught, and the rock is removed out of its place.

Zaista, kao što gora padne i raspadne se, i kao što se stijena odvali s mjesta svojega,

19 The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow [out] of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.

I kao što voda spira kamenje i povodanj odnosi prah zemaljski, tako nadanje èovjeèije obraæaš u ništa.

20 Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

Nadvlaðuješ ga jednako, te odlazi, mijenjaš mu lice i otpuštaš ga.

21 His sons come to honor, and he knoweth [it] not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth [it] not of them.

Ako sinovi njegovi budu u èasti, on ne zna; ako li u sramoti, on se ne brine.

22 But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.

Samo tijelo njegovo dok je živ boluje, i duša njegova u njemu tuži.
