Jeremiah 4
1 If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return to me: and if thou wilt put away thy abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.
Se te converteres, ó Israel, diz o Senhor, volta para mim: e, se tirares as tuas abominações de diante de mim, não andarás mais vagueando,
2 And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.
E jurarás: Vive o Senhor na verdade, no juizo e na justiça; e n'elle se bemdirão as gentes, e n'elle se gloriarão.
3 For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.
Porque assim diz o Senhor aos homens de Judah e a Jerusalem: Lavrae para vós o campo de lavoura, e não semeeis entre espinhos.
4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench [it], because of the evil of your doings.
Circumcidae-vos ao Senhor, e tirae os prepucios do vosso coração, ó homens de Judah e habitadores de Jerusalem, para que a minha indignação não venha a sair como fogo, e arda, e não haja quem a apague, por causa da malicia das vossas obras.
5 Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, Gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the fortified cities.
Annunciae em Judah, e fazei ouvir em Jerusalem, e dizei, e tocae a trombeta na terra, gritae em alta voz, e dizei: Ajuntae-vos, e entremos nas cidades fortes.
6 Set up the standard towards Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.
Arvorae a bandeira para Sião, retirae-vos em tropas, não estejaes parados; porque eu trago um mal do norte, e um grande quebrantamento.
7 The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.
Já um leão subiu da sua ramada, e um destruidor das nações; elle já partiu, e saiu do seu logar para fazer da tua terra uma desolação; que as tuas cidades sejam destruidas, e ninguem habite n'ellas.
8 For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.
Por isto cingi-vos de saccos, lamentae, e uivae; porque o ardor da ira do Senhor não se desviou de nós.
9 And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, [that] the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.
E succederá n'aquelle tempo, diz o Senhor, que se desfará o coração do rei e o coração dos principes; e os sacerdotes pasmarão, e os prophetas se maravilharão.
10 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth to the soul.
Então disse eu: Ah Senhor Jehovah! verdadeiramente enganaste grandemente a este povo e a Jerusalem, dizendo; Tereis paz; e chegas-lhes a espada até á alma.
11 At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness towards the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse,
N'aquelle tempo se dirá a este povo e a Jerusalem: Um vento secco das alturas do deserto veiu ao caminho da filha do meu povo; não para padejar, nem para alimpar;
12 [Even] a full wind from those [places] shall come to me: now also will I give sentence against them.
Mas um vento me virá a mim, que lhes será mais vehemente: agora tambem eu pronunciarei juizos contra elles.
13 Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots [shall be] as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us! for we are laid waste.
Eis que virá subindo como nuvens e os seus carros como a tormenta; os seus cavallos serão mais ligeiros do que as aguias; ai de nós! que somos assolados!
14 O Jerusalem, wash thy heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?
Lava o teu coração da malicia, ó Jerusalem, para que sejas salva; até quando permanecerão no meio de ti os pensamentos da tua vaidade?
15 For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.
Porque uma voz annuncia desde Dan, e faz ouvir a calamidade desde o monte de Ephraim.
16 Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, [that] watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.
D'isto fazei menção ás nações; eis aqui fazei-o ouvir contra Jerusalem; que vigias veem de uma terra remota, e levantarão a sua voz contra as cidades de Judah
17 As keepers of a field they are against her on all sides; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.
Como as guardas de um campo, estão contra ella ao redor; porquanto ella se rebellou contra mim, diz o Senhor.
18 Thy way and thy doings have procured these [things] to thee; this [is] thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth to thy heart.
O teu caminho e as tuas obras te fizeram estas coisas: esta é a tua malicia, que tão amargosa é que te chega até ao coração.
19 My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.
Ah entranhas minhas, entranhas minhas! estou com dôres no meu coração! ruge em mim o meu coração, já não me posso calar; porque tu, ó alma minha, ouviste o som da trombeta e o alarido da guerra.
20 Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is laid waste; suddenly are my tents ruined, [and] my curtains in a moment.
Quebranto sobre quebranto se apregoa: porque já toda a terra está destruida: de repente foram destruidas as minhas tendas, e as minhas cortinas n'um momento.
21 How long shall I see the standard, [and] hear the sound of the trumpet?
Até quando verei a bandeira, e ouvirei a voz da trombeta?
22 For my people [are] foolish, they have not known me; they [are] sottish children, and they have no understanding: they [are] wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
Devéras o meu povo está louco, já a mim me não conhecem; são filhos nescios, e não entendidos: sabios são para mal fazer, mas para bem fazer nada sabem.
23 I beheld the earth, and lo, [it was] without form, and void; and the heavens, and they [had] no light.
Vi a terra, e eis que estava assolada e vazia; e os céus, e não tinham a sua luz.
24 I beheld the mountains, and lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.
Vi os montes, e eis que estavam tremendo; e todos os outeiros estremeciam.
25 I beheld, and lo, [there was] no man, and all the fowls of the heavens had fled.
Vi, e eis que homem nenhum havia; e já todas as aves do céu eram fugidas.
26 I beheld, and lo, the fruitful place [was] a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of the LORD, [and] by his fierce anger.
Vi, e eis que a terra fertil era um deserto; e todas as suas cidades estavam derribadas diante do Senhor, diante do furor da sua ira.
27 For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.
Porque assim diz o Senhor: Toda esta terra será assolada: de todo, porém, a não consumirei.
28 For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken [it], I have purposed [it], and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.
Por isto lamentará a terra, e os céus em cima se ennegrecerão; porquanto assim o disse, assim o propuz, e não me arrependi nem me desviarei d'isso.
29 The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city [shall be] forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.
Do clamor dos cavalleiros e dos frecheiros já fugiram todas as cidades; entraram pelas nuvens, e treparam pelos penhascos: todas as cidades ficaram desamparadas, e já ninguem habita n'ellas.
30 And [when] thou [art] laid waste, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rendest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair: [thy] lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.
Agora, pois, que farás, ó assolada? ainda que te vistas de carmezim, ainda que te enfeites de enfeites de oiro, ainda que te pintes em volta dos teus olhos com o antimonio, debalde te enfeitarias: já os amantes te desprezam, e a vida te procurarão tirar
31 For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, [and] the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, [that] bewaileth herself, [that] spreadeth her hands, [saying], Woe [is] me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.
Porquanto ouço uma voz, como de uma que está de parto, uma angustia como da que está com dôres de parto do primeiro filho; a voz da filha de Sião, offegante, que estende as suas mãos, dizendo: Oh! ai de mim agora, porque já a minha alma desmaia por causa dos matadores.
