Isaiah 60

1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

Lève-toi, resplendis, car ta lumière est venue, et la gloire de l’Eternel rayonne sur toi.

2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD will arise upon thee, and his glory will be seen upon thee.

Oui, tandis que les ténèbres couvrent la terre et une sombre brume les nations, sur toi l’Eternel rayonne, sur toi sa gloire apparaît.

3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

Et les peuples marcheront à ta lumière, les rois à l’éclat de ton aurore.

4 Lift up thy eyes around, and see: all they assemble themselves, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at [thy] side.

Lève tes yeux à l’entour et regarde! Les voilà qui s’assemblent tous et viennent à toi: tes fils arrivent de loin, avec tes filles qu’on porte sur les bras.

5 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thy heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted to thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come to thee.

À cette vue, tu seras radieuse, ton cœur battra d’émotion et se dilatera, car les richesses de l’océan se dirigeront vers toi, et l’opulence des peuples te sera amenée.

6 The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall show forth the praises of the LORD.

Tu seras inondée d’une multitude de chameaux, de dromadaires partis de Madian et d’Epha; voici venir tous ceux de Saba, apportant l’or et l’encens et proclamant les louanges de l’Eternel.

7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered to thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister to thee: they shall come up with acceptance on my altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory.

Les brebis de Kèpar s’entassent dans tes murs, et les béliers de Nebaïot s’offrent à ton usage; ils montent sur mon autel en sacrifice agréable, et ainsi je glorifierai ma glorieuse maison.

8 Who [are] these [that] fly as a cloud, and as doves to their windows?

Qui sont ceux-ci, qui volent comme une nuée, comme des colombes vers leurs colombiers?

9 Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, to the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.

Ce sont les îles qui attendent mon signal, et d’abord les vaisseaux de Tarchich, pour ramener de loin tes fils! Ils ont avec eux leur argent et leur or, en l’honneur de l’Eternel, ton Dieu, et du Saint d’Israël qui te glorifie.

10 And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister to thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favor have I had mercy on thee.

Et les fils de l’étranger bâtiront tes murailles, et leurs rois te serviront; car si je t’ai frappé dans ma colère, dans ma bonté je prends pitié de toi.

11 Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that [men] may bring to thee the forces of the Gentiles, and [that] their kings [may be] brought.

Et tes portes seront toujours ouvertes; ni le jour ni la nuit elles ne se fermeront, pour laisser entrer chez toi les richesses des nations et leurs rois marchant à la file.

12 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yes, [those] nations shall be utterly wasted.

Car le peuple, la dynastie qui refusera de te servir périra; ce peuple-là sera voué à la ruine.

13 The glory of Lebanon shall come to thee, the fir-tree, the pine-tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.

La gloire du Liban affluera chez toi, cyprès, orme et buis, tous ses bois ensemble, pour orner le lieu de mon sanctuaire, pour honorer l’endroit où reposent mes pieds.

14 The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending to thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

Et ils viendront à toi, tête, basse, les fils de tes persécuteurs, et tous tes insulteurs se prosterneront jusqu’à la plante de tes pieds; ils t’appelleront Cité de l’Eternel, la Sion du Saint d’Israël.

15 Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through [thee], I will make thee an eternal excellence, a joy of many generations.

Délaissée que tu étais, et haïe et solitaire, je ferai de toi pour l’éternité un sujet d’orgueil, la joie des générations successives.

16 Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the LORD [am] thy Savior and thy Redeemer, the mighty one of Jacob.

Et tu suceras le lait des peuples et tu boiras à la mamelle des souverains; et tu sauras que je suis l’Eternel, ton sauveur, que tu as pour libérateur le Puissant de Jacob.

17 For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thy exactors righteousness.

Où il y avait de l’airain, je mettrai de l’or; où il y avait du fer, je mettrai de l’argent; je remplacerai le bois par l’airain, les pierres par le fer. Pour toute magistrature, je te donnerai la Paix, pour autorité souveraine la Justice.

18 Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

On n’entendra plus parler de violence en ton pays, de ravages ni de ruine en ton territoire, et tu appelleras tes murs "Salut", et tes portes "Gloire".

19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light to thee: but the LORD will be to thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.

Ce ne sera plus le soleil qui t’éclairera le jour, ni la lune qui te prêtera le reflet de sa lumière: l’Eternel sera pour toi une lumière permanente, et ton Dieu une splendeur glorieuse.

20 Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD will be thy everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

Ton soleil n’aura jamais de coucher, ta lune jamais d’éclipse; car l’Eternel sera pour toi une lumière inextinguible, et c’en sera fini de tes jours de deuil.

21 Thy people also [shall be] all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.

Et ton peuple ne sera composé que de justes, qui posséderont à jamais ce pays, eux, rejeton que j’ai planté, œuvre de mes mains, dont je me fais honneur.

22 A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in its time.

Le plus petit deviendra une tribu, et le plus chétif une nation puissante. Moi l’Eternel, l’heure venue, j’aurai vite accompli ces promesses.
