1 Chronicles 20
1 And it came to pass, that after the year had expired, at the time that kings go out [to battle], Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.
Au renouvellement de l’année, époque où les rois entrent en campagne, Joab se mit à la tête de l’armée et porta le ravage dans le pays des Ammonites. Il mit le siège devant Rabba tandis que David restait à Jérusalem, se rendit maître de la ville et la détruisit.
2 And David took the crown of their king from his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and [there were] precious stones in it; and it was set upon David's head: and he brought also a great quantity of spoil out of the city.
David enleva de la tête du roi des Ammonites sa couronne, pesant un kikkar d’or et ornée de pierres précieuses, et qui passa sur la tête de David. Il emporta le butin de la ville en très grande quantité.
3 And he brought out the people that [were] in it, and cut [them] with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so David dealt with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
Il emmena le peuple qui s’y trouvait, le condamna à la scie, aux herses de fer et aux haches; et il en usa de même à l’égard de toutes les villes des Ammonites. Puis David, avec toute l’armée, rentra à Jérusalem.
4 And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines: at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, [that was] of the children of the giant: and they were subdued.
Plus tard survint, à Ghézer, une guerre avec les Philistins; c’est alors que Sibbekkaï, de Houcha, battit Sippaï, un des descendants de Rapha, dont le pouvoir fut abattu.
5 And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear-staff [was] like a weaver's beam.
Une autre guerre eut lieu avec les Philistins, dans laquelle Elhanan, fils de Yaïr, abattit Lahmi, frère de Goliath de Gath (le bois de sa lance ressemblait à l’ensouple du tisserand).
6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of [great] stature, whose fingers and toes [were] four and twenty, six [on each hand], and six [on each foot]: and he also was the son of the giant.
Une autre guerre eut lieu à Gath, où figura un homme de haute taille, qui avait six doigts à chaque main, six à chaque pied, en tout vingt-quatre, et qui, lui aussi, était issu de Rapha.
7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea, David's brother, slew him.
Il défia Israël et fut tué par Jonathan, fils de Chimea et neveu de David.
8 These were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
Tous ceux-ci étaient nés au Rapha dans Gath; tous périrent par la main de David et par celle de ses serviteurs.
