Proverbs 31

1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

১লমূয়েল রাজার কথা। তাঁর মা তাঁকে এই ভাববানী শিক্ষা দিয়েছিলেন।

2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

২হে আমার পুত্র, কি বলব? হে আমার গর্ভের সন্তান, কি বলব? হে আমার মানতের ছেলে, কি বলব?

3 Give not thy strength to women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

৩তুমি নারীদেরকে নিজের শক্তি দিও না, যা রাজাদের ক্ষতিকারক, তাতে যুক্ত থেকো না।

4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

৪রাজাদের জন্য, হে লমূয়েল, রাজাদের জন্য মদ্যপান উপযুক্ত নয়, সুরা কোথায়। শাসনকর্ত্তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করা উচিত নয়।

5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

৫পাছে পান করে তাঁরা ব্যবস্থা ভুলে যায় এবং কোনো দুঃখীর বিচার উল্টো করেন।

6 Give strong drink to him that is ready to perish, and wine to those that are of heavy hearts.

৬মরার মত মানুষকে সুরা দাও, তিক্তপ্রাণ লোককে আঙ্গুর রস দাও;

7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

৭সে পান করে দৈন্যদশা ভুলে যাক, নিজের দুর্দশা আর মনে না করুক।

8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

৮তুমি বোবাদের জন্য তোমার মুখ খোল, অনাথদের জন্য মুখ খোল।

9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

৯তোমার মুখ খোল, ন্যায় বিচার কর, দুঃখী ও দরিদ্রের বিচার কর। গুণবতী স্ত্রীর বর্ণনা

10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

১০গুণবতী স্ত্রী কে পেতে পারে? মুক্তা থেকেও তাঁর মূল্য অনেক বেশী।

11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

১১তাঁর স্বামীর হৃদয় তাঁতে নির্ভর করে, স্বামীর লাভের অভাব হয় না।

12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

১২তিনি জীবনের সব দিন তাঁর উপকার করেন, অপকার করেন না।

13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

১৩তিনি মেষলোম ও মসীনা খোঁজ করেন, আনন্দিত ভাবে নিজের হাতে কাজ করেন।

14 She is like the merchant ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

১৪তিনি বাণিজ্য-জাহাজের মত, তিনি দূর থেকে নিজের খাদ্রসামগ্রী আনেন।

15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth food to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

১৫তিনি রাত থাকতে উঠেন, আর নিজের পরিজনদেরকে খাবার দেন, নিজের দাসীদেরকে কাজ নির্ধারণ করে দেন।

16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

১৬তিনি ক্ষেত্রের বিষয়ে ঠিক করে তা কেনেন, নিজের হাতের ফল দিয়ে দ্রাক্ষার বাগান তৈরী করেন।

17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

১৭তিনি শক্তিতে কোমরবন্ধন করেন, নিজের হাতদুটো শক্তিশালী করেন।

18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her lamp goeth not out by night.

১৮তিনি দেখতে পান, তাঁর ব্যবসায় ভালো, রাতে তাঁর আলো নেভে না।

19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

১৯তিনি টেকুয়া নিতে নিজের হাত বাড়ান, তাঁর হাত দুটো পেঁজা তুলো ধরে।

20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

২০তিনি দরিদ্রের প্রতি মুক্তহস্ত হন, দীনহীনের দিকে হাত বাড়িয়ে দেন।

21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

২১তিনি নিজের পরিবারের বিষয়ে বরফ থেকে ভয় পান না; কারণ তাঁর সব বাড়ীর লোকেরা লাল পোশাক পরে।

22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

২২তিনি নিজের জন্য পর্দার চাদর তৈরী করেন, তাঁর পোশাক সাদা মসীনা-বস্ত্র ও বেগুনি বস্ত্র।

23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

২৩তাঁর স্বামী নগর-দরজায় প্রসিদ্ধ হন, যখন দেশের প্রাচীনদের সঙ্গে বসেন।

24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth waistbands to the merchant.

২৪তিনি সূক্ষ্ম বস্ত্র তৈরী করে বিক্রি করেন, ব্যবসায়ীদের হাতে কটিবস্ত্র তুলেদেন।

25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

২৫শক্তি ও সমাদর তাঁর পোশাক; তিনি ভবিষ্যৎকালের বিষয়ে হাঁসেন।

26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and on her tongue is the law of kindness.

২৬তিনি প্রজ্ঞার সঙ্গে মুখ খোলেন, তাঁর জিভে দয়ার ব্যবস্থা থাকে

27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

২৭তিনি নিজের পরিবারের আচরণের প্রতি লক্ষ্য রাখেন, তিনি অলসের খাবার খান না।

28 Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

২৮তাঁর ছেলেরা উঠে তাঁকে ধন্য বলে; তাঁর স্বামীও বলেন, আর তাঁর এরকম প্রশংসা করেন,

29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

২৯“অনেক মেয়ে গুনের প্রদর্শন করেছেন, কিন্তু তাদের মধ্যে সর্বাপেক্ষা তুমি শ্রেষ্ঠা।”

30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

৩০লাবণ্য মিথ্যা, সৌন্দর্য্য অসার, কিন্তু যে স্ত্রী সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করেন, তিনিই প্রশংসনীয়া।

31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

৩১তোমরা তাঁর হাতের ফল তাঁকে দাও, নগর-দরজার সামনে তাঁর কাজ তাঁর প্রশংসা করুক।
