Proverbs 25
1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
Auch diese sind Sprüche Salomos, welche die Männer Hiskias, des Königs von Juda, zusammengetragen haben:
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
Gottes Ehre ist es, eine Sache zu verbergen, aber der Könige Ehre, eine Sache zu erforschen.
3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
Der Himmel an Höhe, und die Erde an Tiefe, und das Herz der Könige sind unerforschlich.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the refiner.
Man entferne die Schlacken von dem Silber, so geht für den Goldschmied ein Gerät hervor.
5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Man entferne den Gesetzlosen vor dem König, so wird sein Thron feststehen durch Gerechtigkeit.
6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
Brüste dich nicht vor dem König, und stelle dich nicht an den Platz der Großen.
7 For better it is that it be said to thee, Come up here; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thy eyes have seen.
Denn besser ist es, daß man dir sage: Komm hier herauf, als daß man dich erniedrige vor dem Edlen, den deine Augen doch gesehen haben.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in its end, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
Geh nicht eilig aus zu einem Streithandel, damit am Ende davon nicht fraglich werde, was du zu tun hast, wenn dein Nächster dich beschämt. -
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and reveal not a secret to another:
Führe deinen Streithandel mit deinem Nächsten, aber enthülle nicht das Geheimnis eines anderen;
10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thy infamy turn not away.
damit dich nicht schmähe, wer es hört, und dein übler Ruf nicht mehr weiche.
11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Goldene Äpfel in silbernen Prunkgeräten: so ist ein Wort, geredet zu seiner Zeit.
12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
Ein goldener Ohrring und ein Halsgeschmeide von feinem Golde: so ist ein weiser Tadler für ein hörendes Ohr.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
Wie Kühlung des Schnees an einem Erntetage ist ein treuer Bote denen, die ihn senden: er erquickt die Seele seines Herrn.
14 Whoever boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
Wolken und Wind, und kein Regen: so ist ein Mann, welcher mit trügerischem Geschenke prahlt.
15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
Ein Richter wird überredet durch Langmut, und eine gelinde Zunge zerbricht Knochen.
16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled with it, and vomit it.
Hast du Honig gefunden, so iß dein Genüge, damit du seiner nicht satt werdest und ihn ausspeiest.
17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.
Mache deinen Fuß selten im Hause deines Nächsten, damit er deiner nicht satt werde und dich hasse.
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a club, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
Hammer und Schwert und geschärfter Pfeil: so ist ein Mann, der wider seinen Nächsten falsches Zeugnis ablegt.
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Ein zerbrochener Zahn und ein wankender Fuß: so ist das Vertrauen auf einen Treulosen am Tage der Drangsal.
20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon soda, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
Einer, der das Oberkleid ablegt am Tage der Kälte, Essig auf Natron: so, wer einem traurigen Herzen Lieder singt.
21 If thy enemy shall hunger, give him bread to eat; and if he shall thirst, give him water to drink:
Wenn deinen Hasser hungert, speise ihn mit Brot, und wenn ihn dürstet, tränke ihn mit Wasser;
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
denn glühende Kohlen wirst du auf sein Haupt häufen, und Jehova wird dir vergelten.
23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
Nordwind gebiert Regen, und eine heimliche Zunge verdrießliche Gesichter.
24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
Besser auf einer Dachecke wohnen, als ein zänkisches Weib und ein gemeinsames Haus.
25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
Frisches Wasser auf eine lechzende Seele: so eine gute Nachricht aus fernem Lande.
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
Getrübter Quell und verderbter Brunnen: so ist der Gerechte, der vor dem Gesetzlosen wankt.
27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
Viel Honig essen ist nicht gut, aber schwere Dinge erforschen ist Ehre.
28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Eine erbrochene Stadt ohne Mauer: so ist ein Mann, dessen Geist Beherrschung mangelt.
