Jeremiah 42

1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, came near,

Vinieron todos los príncipes de los ejércitos, y Johanán, hijo de Carea, y Jezanías, hijo de Osaías, y todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor,

2 And said to Jeremiah the prophet, We beseech thee, let our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us to the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thy eyes do behold us: )

y dijeron a Jeremías profeta: Caiga ahora nuestro ruego delante de ti, y ruega por nosotros al SEÑOR tu Dios, por todo este resto, (pues hemos quedado unos pocos de muchos, como nos ven tus ojos),

3 That the LORD thy God may show us the way in which we may walk, and the thing that we may do.

Para que el SEÑOR tu Dios nos enseñe el camino por donde vayamos, y lo que hemos de hacer.

4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray to the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it to you; I will keep nothing back from you.

Y Jeremías profeta les dijo: Ya he oído. He aquí que voy a orar al SEÑOR vuestro Dios, como habéis dicho; y será que todo lo que el SEÑOR os respondiere, os enseñaré; no os reservaré palabra.

5 Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.

Y ellos dijeron a Jeremías: El SEÑOR sea entre nosotros testigo de la verdad y de la lealtad, si no hiciéremos conforme a todo aquello para lo cual el SEÑOR tu Dios te enviare a nosotros.

6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

Ora sea bueno, ora malo, a la voz del SEÑOR nuestro Dios, al cual te enviamos, escucharemos; para que, obedeciendo a la voz del SEÑOR nuestro Dios, tengamos bien.

7 And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah.

Y aconteció que al cabo de diez días vino palabra del SEÑOR a Jeremías.

8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

Y llamó a Johanán, hijo de Carea, y a todos los príncipes de los ejércitos que estaban con él, y a todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor;

9 And said to them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, to whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;

y les dijo: Así dijo el SEÑOR Dios de Israel, al cual me enviasteis para que hiciese caer vuestros ruegos en su presencia:

10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent of the evil that I have done to you.

Si os quedareis quietos en esta tierra, os edificaré, y no os destruiré; os plantaré, y no os arrancaré; porque arrepentido estoy del mal que os he hecho.

11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

No temáis de la presencia del rey de Babilonia, de cuya presencia tenéis temor; no temáis de su presencia, dijo el SEÑOR, porque con vosotros estoy yo para salvaros y libraros de su mano;

12 And I will show mercies to you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

y os daré misericordias, y tendrá misericordia de vosotros, y os hará morar en vuestra tierra.

13 But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,

Mas si dijereis: No moraremos en esta tierra, no escuchando así la voz del SEÑOR vuestro Dios,

14 Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor hunger for bread; and there will we dwell:

y diciendo: No, antes nos entraremos en tierra de Egipto, en la cual no veremos guerra, ni oiremos sonido de trompeta, ni tendremos hambre de pan, y allá moraremos:

15 And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

ahora por eso, oíd la palabra del SEÑOR, remanente de Judá: Así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Si vosotros volviereis vuestros rostros para entrar en Egipto, y entrareis para peregrinar allá,

16 Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, of which ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

será que el cuchillo que teméis, os alcanzará allí en tierra de Egipto, y el hambre de que tenéis temor, allá en Egipto se os pegará; y allí moriréis.

17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

Será pues, que todos los varones que tornaren sus rostros para entrarse en Egipto, para peregrinar allí, morirán a cuchillo, de hambre, y de pestilencia; no habrá de ellos quien quede vivo, ni quien escape delante del mal que yo traigo sobre ellos.

18 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As my anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an horror, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

Porque así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Como se derramó mi enojo y mi ira sobre los moradores de Jerusalén, así se derramará mi ira sobre vosotros, cuando entrareis en Egipto; y seréis por juramento y por espanto, y por maldición y por afrenta; y no veréis más este lugar.

19 The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.

El SEÑOR habló sobre vosotros, oh remanente de Judá: No entréis en Egipto; sabed por cierto que os aviso hoy.

20 For ye were hypocrites in your hearts, when ye sent me to the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us to the LORD our God; and according to all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it.

¿Por qué hicisteis errar vuestras almas? Porque vosotros me enviasteis al SEÑOR vuestro Dios, diciendo: Ora por nosotros al SEÑOR nuestro Dios; y conforme a todas las cosas que el SEÑOR nuestro Dios dijere, háznoslo saber así, y lo pondremos por obra.

21 And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for which he hath sent me to you.

Y os lo he denunciado hoy, y no habéis obedecido a la voz del SEÑOR vuestro Dios, ni a todas las cosas por las cuales me envió a vosotros.

22 Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place where ye desire to go and to sojourn.

Ahora, pues, sabed de cierto que a cuchillo, y hambre y de pestilencia, moriréis en el lugar donde deseasteis entrar para peregrinar allí.
