Jeremiah 18
1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
১সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য যিরমিয়ের কাছে এল এবং বলল,
2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
২“ওঠ এবং কুমোরের বাড়িতে যাও, কারণ সেখানে আমার কথা তুমি শুনতে পাবে।”
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
৩সেইজন্য আমি কুমোরের বাড়িতে গেলাম এবং দেখ! সে তার চাকাতে কাজ করছে।
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make it.
৪কিন্তু মাটি দিয়ে যে পাত্রটি সে তৈরী করছিল তা তার হাতে নষ্ট হয়ে গেল, তাই সে তার মন পরিবর্তন করলো এবং তার চোখে যা ভালো লাগলো, সেই রকম অন্য একটি পাত্র তৈরী করল।
5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
৫তখন সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য আমার কাছে উপস্থিত হল এবং বলল,
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in my hand, O house of Israel.
৬“হে ইস্রায়েল, আমি কি তোমাদের সঙ্গে এই কুমোরের মত ব্যবহার করতে পারি না?” এটি সদাপ্রভুর ঘোষণা। “দেখ! হে ইস্রায়েলের লোকেরা, কুমোরের হাতের কাদার মতই, যেমন তোমরা আমার হাতে আছ।
7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
৭কোন এক দিন, আমি একটি জাতি বা একটি রাজ্যের বিষয়ে ঘোষণা করব, যে আমি তাকে তাড়িয়ে দেব, ছিন্নভিন্ন করব বা ধ্বংস করব।
8 If that nation, against which I have pronounced, shall turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them.
৮কিন্তু যদি সেই জাতি যার সম্মন্ধে আমি ঘোষণা করেছি সে তার মন্দতা থেকে ফেরে, তবে আমি সেই বিপর্যয় ক্ষমা করব যা আমি তার উপর আনবার জন্য পরিকল্পনা করেছিলাম।
9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
৯অন্য কোন দিন, আমি একটি জাতি বা রাজ্যের বিষয়ে ঘোষণা করব, যে আমি তাকে গড়ে তুলব বা তাকে স্থাপন করব।
10 If it shall do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.
১০কিন্তু যদি সে আমার কথা না শোনে আমার চোখে মন্দ কাজ করে, তবে তাদের জন্য যে মঙ্গল করার কথা আমি বলেছিলাম তা করব না।
11 Now therefore come, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a plot against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
১১সেইজন্য এখন, যিহূদার লোকদের ও যিরূশালেমের বাসিন্দাদের বল যে, সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, ‘দেখ, আমি তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে বিপদের ব্যবস্থা করছি। তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে একটা পরিকল্পনা করছি। অনুতাপ কর, প্রত্যেক ব্যক্তি মন্দ পথ থেকে ফেরো, তাহলে তোমাদের পথ ও তোমাদের কাজকর্ম ভাল কর।’
12 And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.
১২কিন্তু তারা বলে, ‘আমরা হতাশ। তাই আমাদের পরিকল্পনা মতই আমরা চলব। আমরা প্রত্যেকে নিজের মন্দ অন্তরের ইচ্ছা অনুসারেই চলব’।”
13 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.
১৩সেইজন্য সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, “জাতিদের জিজ্ঞাসা কর, কে এই রকম কথা শুনেছে? কুমারী ইস্রায়েল একটি জঘন্য কাজ করেছে।
14 Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?
১৪লিবানোনের তুষার কি কখনও ক্ষেতের শিলাকে ত্যাগ করে? দূর থেকে আসা তার পর্বতের জল বয়ে যাওয়া কি কখনও হারিয়ে যায়?
15 Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
১৫কিন্তু আমার লোকেরা আমাকে ভুলে গেছে। তারা অপদার্থ প্রতিমার কাছে ধূপ জ্বালিয়েছে এবং তারা তাদের পথে হোঁচট খেয়েছে; তারা সেই পুরানো পথ ছেড়ে বিপথে চলাফেরা করেছে।
16 To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shake his head.
১৬তাদের দেশ ভয়ঙ্কর হয়ে যাবে, একটি স্থায়ী শিশ শব্দ হবে। যারা তার পাশ দিয়ে যাবে তারা কেঁপে উঠবে এবং তার মাথা নাড়বে।
17 I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.
১৭আমি পূর্বের বাতাসের মত তাদের শত্রুদের সামনে তাদের ছুঁড়ে ফেলবো। তাদের বিপদের দিনের আমি তাদেরকে আমার পিছন দেখাব, মুখ নয়।”
18 Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.
১৮তাই লোকেরা বলল, “এসো, আমরা যিরমিয়ের বিরুদ্ধে চক্রান্ত করি, কারণ যাজকের কাছ থেকে ব্যবস্থা, অথবা জ্ঞানীদের কাছ থেকে পরামর্শ ও ভাববাণীদের কাছ থেকে ঈশ্বরের বাক্য কখনো বিনষ্ট হবে না। এসো, আমরা আমাদের কথায় তাকে আক্রমণ করি এবং তার ঘোষণার কোনো কিছুতে মনোযোগ না দিই।”
19 Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.
১৯আমার দিকে মনোযোগ দাও, সদাপ্রভু! আমার শত্রুদের কোলাহল শোনো।
20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.
২০তাদের প্রতি ভালো থাকার জন্য তাদের করা ক্ষয়ক্ষতি কি আমার পুরষ্কার? কারণ তারা আমার জীবনের জন্য গর্ত খুঁড়েছে। স্মরণ কর, তাদের থেকে তোমার রাগ থামানোর চেষ্টায় তোমার সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে তাদের পক্ষে মঙ্গল জনক কথা বলেছি।
21 Therefore deliver their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.
২১তাই তুমি তাদের সন্তানদের দূর্ভিক্ষের হাতে ছেড়ে দাও এবং তাদের উপরে তরোয়ালকে ক্ষমতা দাও। তাদের স্ত্রীরা সন্তানহীনা ও বিধবা হোক, তাদের পুরুষরা নিহত হোক এবং তাদের যুবকেরা যুদ্ধে তরোয়ালের আঘাতে নিহত হোক।
22 Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have dug a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
২২তাদের বাড়ি থেকে মর্মান্তিক কান্না শোনা যাক, যেমন তুমি তাদের বিরুদ্ধে হঠাৎ আক্রমণকারী নিয়ে এসো। কারণ আমাকে ধরবার জন্য তারা একটি গর্ত খুঁড়েছে এবং আমার পায়ের জন্য ফাঁদ লুকিয়ে রেখেছে।
23 Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thy anger.
২৩কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু, তুমি নিজেই আমাকে হত্যা করার জন্য তাদের সব ষড়যন্ত্রের কথা জান। তাদের অপরাধ ও পাপ ক্ষমা কোরো না। তোমার সামনে থেকে তাদের পাপ মুছে ফেলো না। তার পরিবর্তে, তোমার সামনে থেকে তাদের দূর করে দাও। তোমার ক্রোধের দিন তাদের বিরুদ্ধে কাজ করো।
