Genesis 28
1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
イサクはヤコブを呼んで、これを祝福し、命じて言った、「あなたはカナンの娘を妻にめとってはならない。
2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from there of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.
立ってパダンアラムへ行き、あなたの母の父ベトエルの家に行って、そこであなたの母の兄ラバンの娘を妻にめとりなさい。
3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;
全能の神が、あなたを祝福し、多くの子を得させ、かつふえさせて、多くの国民とし、
4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land in which thou art a stranger, which God gave to Abraham.
またアブラハムの祝福をあなたと子孫とに与えて、神がアブラハムに授けられたあなたの寄留の地を継がせてくださるように」。
5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.
こうしてイサクはヤコブを送り出した。ヤコブはパダンアラムに向かい、アラムびとベトエルの子で、ヤコブとエサウとの母リベカの兄ラバンのもとへ行った。
6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from there; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
さてエサウは、イサクがヤコブを祝福して、パダンアラムにつかわし、そこから妻をめとらせようとしたこと、彼を祝福し、命じて「あなたはカナンの娘を妻にめとってはならない」と言ったこと、
7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;
そしてヤコブが父母の言葉に従って、パダンアラムへ行ったことを知ったとき、
8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;
彼はカナンの娘が父イサクの心にかなわないのを見た。
9 Then went Esau to Ishmael, and took to the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.
そこでエサウはイシマエルの所に行き、すでにある妻たちのほかにアブラハムの子イシマエルの娘で、ネバヨテの妹マハラテを妻にめとった。
10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
さてヤコブはベエルシバを立って、ハランへ向かったが、
11 And he came to a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
一つの所に着いた時、日が暮れたので、そこに一夜を過ごし、その所の石を取ってまくらとし、そこに伏して寝た。
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set upon the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
時に彼は夢をみた。一つのはしごが地の上に立っていて、その頂は天に達し、神の使たちがそれを上り下りしているのを見た。
13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land on which thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
そして主は彼のそばに立って言われた、「わたしはあなたの父アブラハムの神、イサクの神、主である。あなたが伏している地を、あなたと子孫とに与えよう。
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
あなたの子孫は地のちりのように多くなって、西、東、北、南にひろがり、地の諸族はあなたと子孫とによって祝福をうけるであろう。
15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places where thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have promised to thee.
わたしはあなたと共にいて、あなたがどこへ行くにもあなたを守り、あなたをこの地に連れ帰るであろう。わたしは決してあなたを捨てず、あなたに語った事を行うであろう」。
16 And Jacob awoke from his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
ヤコブは眠りからさめて言った、「まことに主がこの所におられるのに、わたしは知らなかった」。
17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is no other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
そして彼は恐れて言った、「これはなんという恐るべき所だろう。これは神の家である。これは天の門だ」。
18 And Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it.
ヤコブは朝はやく起きて、まくらとしていた石を取り、それを立てて柱とし、その頂に油を注いで、
19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
その所の名をベテルと名づけた。その町の名は初めはルズといった。
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
ヤコブは誓いを立てて言った、「神がわたしと共にいまし、わたしの行くこの道でわたしを守り、食べるパンと着る着物を賜い、
21 So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
安らかに父の家に帰らせてくださるなら、主をわたしの神といたしましょう。
22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth to thee.
またわたしが柱に立てたこの石を神の家といたしましょう。そしてあなたがくださるすべての物の十分の一を、わたしは必ずあなたにささげます」。
