Genesis 19
1 And there came two angels to Sodom at evening; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
১পরে সন্ধ্যাবেলায় ঐ দুই দূত সদোমে এলেন। তখন লোট সদোমের দরজার কাছে বসেছিলেন, আর তাঁদেরকে দেখে তাঁদের কাছে যাবার জন্য উঠলেন এবং মাটিতে মুখ দিয়ে প্রণাম করলেন
2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
২তিনি বললেন, “হে আমার প্রভুরা, দেখুন, অনুরোধ করি, আপনাদের এই দাসের বাড়িতে প্রবেশ করুন, রাতে থাকুন ও আপনার পা ধুয়ে নিন; পরে সকালে উঠে নিজের যাত্রায় এগিয়ে যাবেন।” এবং তাঁরা বললেন, “না, আমরা চকেই রাত কাটাব।”
3 And he urged them greatly; and they turned in to him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.
৩কিন্তু লোট অতিরিক্ত আগ্রহ দেখাবার পর, তাঁরা তাঁর সঙ্গে গেলেন ও তাঁর বাড়িতে প্রবেশ করলেন; তাতে তিনি তাঁদের জন্য খাবার তৈরী করলেন ও তাড়ীশূন্য রুটি তৈরী করলেন, আর তাঁরা ভোজন করলেন।
4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
৪পরে তাঁদের শোয়ার আগে ঐ নগরের পুরুষেরা, সদোমের যুবক ও বৃদ্ধ সমস্ত লোক চারদিক থেকে এসে তাঁর বাড়ি ঘিরে ফেলল
5 And they called to Lot, and said to him, Where are the men who came in to thee this night? bring them out to us, that we may know them.
৫তারা লোটকে ডেকে বলল, “আজ রাত্রে যে দুজন লোক তোমার বাড়িতে আসল, তারা কোথায়? তাদেরকে বার করে আমাদের কাছে আন, আমরা তাদের পরিচয় নেব।”
6 And Lot went out at the door to them, and shut the door after him,
৬তখন লোট ঘরের দরজার বাইরে তাদের কাছে এসে নিজে পেছনের দরজা বন্ধ করলেন
7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
৭তিনি বললেন, “ভাই সব, অনুরোধ করি, এমন খারাপ ব্যবহার কর না।
8 Behold now, I have two daughters who have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out to you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only to these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
৮দেখ, পুরুষের পরিচয় পায়নি এমন যুবতী আমার দুটি মেয়ে আছে, তাদেরকে তোমাদের কাছে আনি, তোমাদের দৃষ্টিতে যা ভাল, তা কর, কিন্তু সেই ব্যক্তিদের প্রতি কিছুই কর না, কারণ এই দিনের তাঁরা আমার বাড়ির ছায়ায় আশ্রয় নিলেন।”
9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one man came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed hard upon the man, Lot, and came near to break the door.
৯তখন তারা বলল, “সরে যা!” তারা আরও বলল, “একজন বিদেশী হিসাবে এখানে বাস করতে এসে এখন এ আমাদের বিচারকর্ত্তা হল; এখন তাদের থেকে তোর প্রতি আরও খারাপ ব্যবহার করব।” তারা লোটের ওপরে চাপ দিতে লাগল এবং তারা দরজা ভাঙ্গতে কাছে এল।
10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut the door.
১০তখন সেই দুই ব্যক্তি হাত বাড়িয়ে লোটকে ঘরের মধ্যে নিজেদের কাছে টেনে নিয়ে দরজা বন্ধ করলেন;
11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
১১এবং বাড়ির দরজার কাছে ছোট কি বড় সব লোককে অন্ধতায় আহত করলেন; তাতে তারা দরজা খুঁজতে খুঁজতে পরিশ্রান্ত হল।
12 And the men said to Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whomever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
১২পরে সেই ব্যক্তিরা লোটকে বললেন, “এই জায়গায় তোমার আর কে কে আছে? তোমার জামাই ও ছেলে মেয়ে যত জন এই নগরে আছে, সে সকলকে এই জায়গা থেকে নিয়ে যাও।
13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them hast become great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
১৩কারণ আমরা এই জায়গা ধ্বংস করব; কারণ সদাপ্রভুর সামনে এই লোকদের বিপরীতে ভীষণ কান্নার আওয়াজ উঠেছে, তাই সদাপ্রভু এটা ধ্বংস করতে আমাদেরকে পাঠিয়েছেন।”
14 And Lot went out, and spoke to his sons in law, who married his daughters, and said, Arise, depart from this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed to his sons in law as one that mocked.
১৪তখন লোট বাইরে গিয়ে, যারা তাঁর মেয়েদেরকে বিয়ে করেছিল, নিজের সেই জামাইদেরকে বললেন, “তাড়াতাড়ি ওঠ, এ জায়গা থেকে বেরিয়ে যাও, কারণ সদাপ্রভু এই নগর ধ্বংস করবেন।” কিন্তু তাঁর জামাইরা তাঁকে উপহাসকারী বলে মনে করল।
15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, who are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
১৫যখন প্রভাত হল সেই দূতেরা লোটকে তাড়াতাড়ি বললেন, “ওঠ, তোমার স্ত্রীকে ও এই যে মেয়ে দুটি এখানে আছে, এদেরকে নিয়ে যাও, যদি তোমরা নগরের অপরাধে বিনষ্ট হও।”
16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful to him: and they brought him forth, and set him outside of the city.
১৬কিন্তু তিনি এদিক-ওদিক করতে লাগলেন; তাতে তাঁর প্রতি সদাপ্রভুর স্নেহের জন্য সেই ব্যক্তিরা তাঁর ও তাঁর স্ত্রীর ও মেয়ে দুটির হাত ধরে শহরের বাইরে নিয়ে রাখলেন।
17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
১৭যখন তাদেরকে বের করে তিনি লোটকে বললেন, “প্রাণরক্ষার জন্য পালিয়ে যাও! পিছন দিকে দেখ না; অথবা সমতলে যে কোনো জায়গায় থেকো না; পর্বতে পালিয়ে যাও, যাতে বিনষ্ট না হও।”
18 And Lot said to them, O, not so, my Lord:
১৮লোট তাঁদেরকে বললেন, “হে আমার প্রভু, এমন না হোক।
19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shown to me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil should take me, and I die:
১৯দেখুন, আপনার দাস আপনার কাছে অনুগ্রহ প্রাপ্ত হয়েছে; আমার প্রাণরক্ষা করাতে আপনি আমার প্রতি আপনার মহাদয়া প্রকাশ করেছেন; কিন্তু আমি পর্বতে পালাতে পারি না; কি জানি, সেই বিপদ এসে পড়লে আমিও মরব।
20 Behold now, this city is near to flee to, and it is a small one: O, let me escape there, ( is it not a small one?) and my soul shall live.
২০দেখুন, পালানোর জন্য ঐ শহর কাছাকাছি, ওটা ছোট; ওখানে পালাবার অনুমতি দিন, তা হলে আমার প্রাণ বাঁচবে; ওটা কি ছোট না?”
21 And he said to him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for which thou hast spoken.
২১তিনি বললেন, “ভাল, আমি এ বিষয়েও তোমার প্রতি অনুগ্রহ করছি, ঐ যে নগরের কথা বললে, ওটা ধ্বংস করব না।
22 Haste thee, escape there; for I cannot do any thing till thou hast come there. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
২২তাড়াতাড়ি! ঐ জায়গায় পালিয়ে যাও, কারণ তুমি ঐ জায়গায় না পৌঁছালে আমি কিছু করতে পারি না।” এই জন্য সেই জায়গার নাম সোয়র অর্থাৎ ক্ষুদ্র হল।
23 The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
২৩দেশের উপর সূর্য্য উদিত হলে লোট সোয়রে প্রবেশ করলেন,
24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
২৪এমন দিনের সদাপ্রভু নিজের কাছ থেকে, আকাশ থেকে, সদোমের ও ঘমোরার ওপরে গন্ধক ও আগুন বর্ষণ করলেন।
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
২৫সেই সব নগর, সমস্ত অঞ্চল নগরবাসী সব লোক ও সেই ভূমিতে উত্পন্ন সমস্ত বস্তু ধ্বংস করলেন।
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
২৬কিন্তু লোটের স্ত্রী, যে তাঁর পিছনে ছিল, সে পিছনের দিকে তাকাল এবং লবণস্তম্ভ হয়ে গেল।
27 And Abraham rose early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:
২৭আর অব্রাহাম খুব সকালে ঘুম থেকে উঠলেন এবং সেই জায়গায় গেলেন, আগে যে জায়গায় সদাপ্রভু দাঁড়িয়ে ছিলেন
28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
২৮সদোম ও ঘমোরার দিকে ও সেই অঞ্চলের সব ভূমির দিকে চেয়ে দেখলেন, আর দেখ, ভাটির ধোঁয়ার মতো সেই দেশের থেকে ধোঁয়া উঠছে।
29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.
২৯এই ভাবে সেই অঞ্চলে অবস্থিত সমস্ত নগরের ধ্বংসের দিনের ঈশ্বর অব্রাহামকে স্মরণ করলেন। যে যে নগরে লোট বাস করতেন, সেই সেই নগরের ধ্বংসের দিনের ধ্বংসের মধ্য থেকে লোটকে পাঠালেন।
30 And Lot went up from Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
৩০পরে লোট ও তাঁর দুটি মেয়েকে নিয়ে সোয়র থেকে পর্বতে উঠে গিয়ে সেখানে থাকলেন; কারণ তিনি সোয়রে বাস করতে ভয় পেলেন আর তিনি ও তাঁর সেই দুই মেয়ে গুহার মধ্যে বাস করলেন।
31 And the firstborn said to the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man on the earth to come in to us after the manner of all the earth:
৩১পরে তাঁর বড় মেয়ে ছোট মেয়েকে বলল, “আমাদের বাবা বৃদ্ধ এবং জগৎ সংসারের ব্যবহার অনুসারে আমাদের সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করতে এ দেশে কোন পুরুষ নেই;
32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
৩২এস, আমরা বাবাকে আঙ্গুর রস পান করিয়ে তাঁর সঙ্গে শয়ন করি, এই ভাবে আমরা বাবার বংশ বৃদ্ধি করি।”
33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
৩৩তাতে তারা সেই রাতে নিজেদের বাবাকে আঙ্গুর রস পান করাল, পরে তাঁর বড় মেয়ে বাবার সঙ্গে শয়ন করতে গেল; তাঁর শয়ন করা ও উঠে যাওয়া লোট টের পেলেন না।
34 And it came to pass on the next day, that the firstborn said to the younger, Behold, I lay last night with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
৩৪আর পরদিন বড় মেয়েটি ছোট মেয়েটিকে বলল, “দেখ, গত রাতে আমি বাবার সঙ্গে শয়ন করেছিলাম; এস, আমরা আজ রাতেও বাবাকে আঙ্গুর রস পান করাই; পরে তুমি গিয়ে তাঁর সঙ্গে শয়ন কর, এই ভাবে বাবার বংশ রক্ষা করব।”
35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
৩৫এই ভাবে তারা সেই রাতেও বাবাকে আঙ্গুর রস পান করাল; পরে ছোট মেয়ে উঠে গিয়ে তাঁর সঙ্গে শয়ন করল; তার শয়ন করা ও উঠে যাওয়া লোট টের পেলেন না।
36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
৩৬এই ভাবে লোটের দুটি মেয়েই নিজেদের বাবা থেকে গর্ভবতী হল।
37 And the firstborn bore a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites to this day.
৩৭পরে বড় মেয়ে ছেলের জন্ম দিয়ে তার নাম মোয়াব রাখল; সে এখনকার মোয়াবীয়দের আদিপিতা।
38 And the younger, she also bore a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon to this day.
৩৮আর ছোট মেয়েটিও ছেলের জন্ম দিয়ে তার নাম বিন–অম্মি রাখল, সে এখনকার অম্মোন-লোকদের আদিবাবা।
