Deuteronomy 19
1 When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
১যখন তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু যে জাতিদের দেশ তোমাকে দিচ্ছেন, তাদেরকে তিনি উচ্ছেদ করলে পর যখন তুমি তাদেরকে তাড়িয়ে দিয়ে তাদের শহরে ও বাড়িতে বাস করবে,
2 Thou shalt set apart three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
২যে দেশ তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু অধিকারের জন্যে তোমাকে দিচ্ছেন, তোমার সেই দেশের মাঝখানে তুমি নিজের জন্য তিনটি শহর নির্বাচন করবে।
3 Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the bounds of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee there.
৩তুমি রাস্তা তৈরী করবে এবং তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু যে দেশের অধিকার তোমাকে দেন, তোমার সেই দেশের ভূমির তিন রাস্তা তৈরী ভাকরবে; তাতে প্রত্যেক হত্যাকারীরা সেই শহরে পালিয়ে যেতে পারবে।
4 And this is the case of the slayer, who shall flee there, that he may live: Whoever killeth his neighbour unintentionally, whom he hated not in time past;
৪এই নিয়ম এক জনের জন্য যে হত্যাকারী সেই জায়গায় পালিয়ে বাঁচতে পারে; কেউ যদি আগে প্রতিবেশীকে ঘৃণা না করে ভুলবশত তাকে হত্যা করে;
5 As when a man goeth into the forest with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand maketh a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and falleth upon his neighbour, that he dieth; he shall flee to one of these cities, and live:
৫যেমন কেউ যখন নিজের প্রতিবেশীর সঙ্গে কাঠ কাটতে বনে গিয়ে গাছ কাটবার জন্য কুড়াল তুললে যদি ফলক বাঁট থেকে খসে প্রতিবেশীর গায়ে এমন লাগে যে, তাতেই সে মারা পড়ে, তবে সে ঐ তিনটির মধ্যে কোনো এক শহরে পালিয়ে বাঁচতে পারবে;
6 Lest the avenger of blood shall pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; though he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.
৬পাছে রক্তের প্রতিশোধদাতা রেগে গিয়ে হত্যাকারীর পিছনে তাড়া করে পথের দূরত্বের জন্য তাকে ধরে মেরে ফেলে। সে লোক তো প্রাণদণ্ডের যোগ্য না কারণ সে আগে ওকে ঘৃণা করে নি।
7 Therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt set apart three cities for thee.
৭অতএব আমি তোমাকে আদেশ করছি, তুমি তোমার জন্য তিনটি শহর নির্বাচন করবে।
8 And if the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy land, as he hath sworn to thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give to thy fathers;
৮আর আমি আজ তোমাকে যে সব আদেশ দিচ্ছি, তুমি তা পালন করে নিজের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে ভালবাসলে ও সারা জীবন
9 If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, besides these three:
৯তাঁর পথে চললে যদি তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু তোমার পূর্বপুরুষদের কাছে করা নিজের শপথ অনুসারে তোমার সীমা বাড়ান ও তোমার পূর্বপুরুষদের কাছে প্রতিজ্ঞা করা সমস্ত দেশ তোমাকে দেন; তবে তুমি সেই তিন শহর ছাড়া আরও তিনটি শহর নির্ধারণ করবে;
10 That innocent blood may not be shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.
১০যেন তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু অধিকারের জন্যে তোমাকে যে দেশ দিচ্ছেন, তোমার সেই দেশের মধ্যে নির্দোষের রক্তপাত না হয়, আর তোমার উপরে রক্তপাতের অপরাধ না আসে।
11 But if any man shall hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he dieth, and he shall flee into one of these cities:
১১কিন্তু যদি কেউ নিজের প্রতিবেশীকে ঘৃণা করে তার জন্য ঘাঁটি বসায় ও তার বিরুদ্ধে উঠে তাকে সাংঘাতিক আঘাত করে, আর সে মরে যায়, পরে ওই লোক যদি ঐ সব শহরের মধ্যে কোনো একটি শহরে পালিয়ে যায়;
12 Then the elders of his city shall send and bring him from there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
১২তবে তার শহরের প্রাচীনরা লোক পাঠিয়ে সেখান থেকে তাকে আনাবে ও তাকে হত্যা করার জন্য রক্তের প্রতিশোধদাতার হাতে দেবে।
13 Thy eye shall not pity him, but thou shall remove the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may be well with thee.
১৩তোমার চোখ তার প্রতি দয়া না করুক, কিন্তু তুমি ইস্রায়েলের মধ্যে থেকে যারা অপরাধী না তাদের রক্তপাতের দোষ দূর করবে; তাতে তোমার ভালো হবে।
14 Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s landmark, which they of old time have set in thy inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
১৪তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু অধিকারের জন্যে যে দেশ তোমাকে দিচ্ছেন সেই দেশে তোমার পাওনা ভূমিতে আগের লোকেরা যে সীমার চিহ্ন নির্ধারণ করেছে, তোমার প্রতিবেশীর সেই চিহ্ন সরিয়ে দেবে না।
15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
১৫কেউ কোনো ধরনের অপরাধ কি পাপ, যে কোনো পাপ করলে, তার বিরুদ্ধে একমাত্র সাক্ষী উঠবে না; দুই কিংবা তিন সাক্ষীর প্রমাণের মাধ্যমে বিচার শেষ হবে।
16 If a false witness shall rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;
১৬কোনো অন্যায়ী সাক্ষী যদি কারো বিরুদ্ধে উঠে তার বিষয়ে অন্যায় কাজের সাক্ষ্য দেয়,
17 Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, who shall be in those days;
১৭তবে সেই বাদী প্রতিবাদী উভয়ে সদাপ্রভুর সামনে, সেই দিনের র যাজকদের ও বিচারকর্তাদের সামনে, দাঁড়াবে।
18 And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness is a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;
১৮পরে বিচারকর্তারা সযত্নে খোঁজ করবে, আর দেখ, সে সাক্ষী যদি মিথ্যাসাক্ষী হয় ও তার ভাইয়ের বিরুদ্ধে মিথ্যাসাক্ষ্য দিয়ে থাকে;
19 Then shall ye do to him, as he had thought to do to his brother: so shalt thou remove the evil from among you.
১৯তবে সে তার ভাইয়ের প্রতি যেমন করতে চেয়েছিল, তার প্রতি তোমরা সেরকম করবে; এই ভাবে তুমি নিজের মধ্যে থেকে খারাপ কার্যকলাপ বাদ দেবে।
20 And those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
২০তা শুনে বাকি লোকেরা ভয় পেয়ে তোমার মধ্যে সেরকম খারাপ কাজ আর করবে না।
21 And thy eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
২১তোমার চোখ দয়া না করুক; প্রাণের বেতনের জন্যে প্রাণ, চোখের জন্যে চোখ, দাঁতের জন্যে দাঁত, হাতের জন্যে হাত, পায়ের জন্যে পা।
