2 Kings 6
1 And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too small for us.
১একদিনের ভাববাদীদের সন্তানেরা ইলীশায়কে বলল, “দেখুন, যে জায়গায় আমরা আপনার সঙ্গে বাস করছি, সেটা আমাদের জন্য খুবই ছোট।
2 Let us go, we pray thee, to Jordan, and take from there every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
২অনুমতি দিন, আমরা যর্দ্দনের কাছে গিয়ে প্রত্যেকে সেখান থেকে একটি করে কাঠ নিয়ে আমাদের জন্য সেখানে একটা থাকবার জায়গা তৈরী করি।” তিনি বললেন, “যাও।”
3 And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.
৩আর একজন বলল, “আপনি দয়া করে আপনার দাসদের সঙ্গে চলুন।” তিনি বললেন, “যাব।”
4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.
৪অতএব তিনি তাদের সঙ্গে গেলেন; পরে যর্দ্দনের কাছে গিয়ে তারা কাঠ কাটতে লাগল।
5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
৫কিন্তু একজন যখন কাঠ কাটছিল, তখন তার কুড়ালের ফলাটি জলে পড়ে গেল; তাতে সে চিৎকার করে বলল, “হায়, হায়! প্রভু, আমি তো ওটা ধার করে এনেছিলাম।”
6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he showed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in there; and made the axe head float.
৬তখন ঈশ্বরের লোক জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “ওটা কোথায় পড়েছে?” সে তাঁকে সেই জায়গাটা দেখিয়ে দিল, তখন ইলীশায় একটি কাঠ কেটে নিয়ে সেখানে ছুঁড়ে ফেলে লোহার ফলাটিকে ভাসিয়ে তুললেন।
7 Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.
৭আর তিনি বললেন, “ওটা তুলে নাও।” তাতে সে হাত বাড়িয়ে সেটা তুলে নিল।
8 Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
৮এক দিন অরামের রাজা ইস্রায়েলের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করছিলেন; আর যখন তিনি তাঁর দাসেদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করে বলতেন, “ঐ ঐ জায়গায় আমি শিবির করব,”
9 And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for there the Syrians have come down.
৯তখন ঈশ্বরের লোক ইস্রায়েলের রাজাকে বলে পাঠাতেন, “সাবধান, ঐ জায়গায় যাবেন না, কারণ অরামীয়েরা সেখানে নেমে আসছে।”
10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.
১০তাতে ঈশ্বরের লোক যে জায়গাটার বিষয়ে তাঁকে সাবধান করে দিতেন, সেখানে ইস্রায়েলের রাজা সৈন্য পাঠিয়ে বারবার নিজেকে রক্ষা করতেন।
11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said to them, Will ye not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?
১১এই বিষয়ের জন্য অরামের রাজার হৃদয় বিচলিত হল, তিনি তাঁর দাসেদের ডেকে বললেন, “আমাদের মধ্যে কে ইস্রায়েলের রাজার পক্ষে রয়েছে, তা কি তোমরা আমাকে বলবে না?”
12 And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.
১২তখন তাঁর দাসেদের মধ্যে একজন বলল, “হে আমার প্রভু মহারাজ, কেউ না; কিন্তু আপনি আপনার শোবার গৃহে যে সব কথা বলেন, সেই সব কথা ইস্রায়েলের ভাববাদী ইলীশায় ইস্রায়েলের রাজাকে জানান।”
13 And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and bring him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
১৩তখন তিনি বললেন, “সে কোথায় আছে তোমরা গিয়ে তা খুঁজে বের কর, আমি লোক পাঠিয়ে তাকে আনব।” পরে কেউ তাঁকে এই খবর দিল, “দেখুন, তিনি দোথনে আছেন।”
14 Therefore he sent there horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and surrounded the city.
১৪তাতে তিনি অনেক ঘোড়া, রথ ও একটি বড় সৈন্যদল সেখানে পাঠালেন। তারা রাতের বেলায় গিয়ে নগরটি ঘিরে ধরল।
15 And when the servant of the man of God had risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host surrounded the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
১৫আর ভোরে ঈশ্বরের লোকের চাকর উঠে যখন বাইরে গেল, তখন সে দেখতে পেল অনেক ঘোড়া ও রথ নিয়ে একদল সৈন্য নগর ঘিরে রেখেছে। তাঁর চাকর তখন তাঁকে বলল, “হায়, হায়! হে প্রভু, আমরা কি করব?”
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that are with us are more than they that are with them.
১৬তিনি বললেন, “ভয় কোরো না, যারা আমাদের সঙ্গে আছে তারা ওদের চেয়ে সংখ্যায় বেশী।”
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.
১৭তারপর ইলীশায় প্রার্থনা করে বললেন, “হে সদাপ্রভু, অনুরোধ করি, এর চোখ খুলে দাও, যেন এ দেখতে পায়।” তখন সদাপ্রভু সেই চাকরের চোখ খুলে দিলেন এবং সে দেখতে পেল, ইলীশায়ের চারপাশে ঘোড়া ও আগুনের রথে পর্বতে ভরা ছিল।
18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
১৮পরে সেই সৈন্যরা তাঁর কাছে আসলে ইলীশায় সদাপ্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করে বললেন, “অনুরোধ করি, এই লোকগুলিকে তুমি অন্ধ করে দাও।” ইলীশায়ের প্রার্থনা অনুসারে সদাপ্রভু তাদের অন্ধ করে দিলেন।
19 And Elisha said to them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.
১৯পরে ইলীশায় তাদেরকে বললেন, “এটা সেই রাস্তাও নয় আর সেই নগরও নয়; তোমরা আমার পিছনে পিছনে এস; যে লোকের খোঁজ তোমরা করছ আমি তার কাছে তোমাদের নিয়ে যাব।” আর তিনি তাদের শমরিয়াতে নিয়ে গেলেন।
20 And it came to pass, when they had come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
২০তারা শমরিয়াতে ঢুকবার পর ইলীশায় বললেন, “হে সদাপ্রভু, এবার ওদের চোখ খুলে দাও, যেন ওরা দেখতে পায়।” তখন সদাপ্রভু তাদের চোখ খুলে দিলেন এবং তারা দেখল যে, তারা শমরিয়ার গিয়ে উপস্থিত হয়েছে।
21 And the king of Israel said to Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?
২১আর ইস্রায়েলের রাজা তাদের দেখে ইলীশায়কে বললেন, “হে, পিতা, ওদের কি মেরে ফেলব?”
22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
২২ইলীশায় বললেন, “ওদের মেরো না। তুমি যাদের তরোয়াল ও ধনুক দিয়ে বন্দী কর, তাদের কি মেরে ফেল? ওদের রুটি ও জল দাও, ওরা খেয়ে তাদের মনিবের কাছে ফিরে যাক।”
23 And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
২৩তখন তিনি তাদের জন্য বড় ভোজের আয়োজন করলেন এবং তারা খাওয়া দাওয়া করলে, তিনি তাদের বিদায় দিলেন; তারা তাদের মনিবের কাছে ফিরে গেল। পরে অরামের সৈন্যদল ইস্রায়েল দেশে আর এল না।
24 And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up, and besieged Samaria.
২৪তার পরে অরামের রাজা বিনহদদ তাঁর সমস্ত সৈন্যদল জড়ো করলেন এবং শমরিয়া আক্রমণ করে ঘেরাও করলেন।
25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.
২৫তাতে শমরিয়ায় খুব দূর্ভিক্ষ দেখা দিল; আর দেখ, তারা ঘেরাও করে থাকলে শেষে একটি গাধার মাথা আশিটি রূপার টাকা ও এক কাবের চার ভাগের এক ভাগ পায়রার মল পাঁচটি রূপার টাকা দাম হল।
26 And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman to him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
২৬ইস্রায়েলের রাজা একদিন নগরের দেয়ালের উপর দিয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন, এমন দিন একজন স্ত্রীলোক কাঁদতে কাঁদতে তাঁকে বলল, “হে আমার প্রভু মহারাজ, আমাকে রক্ষা করুন।”
27 And he said, If the LORD doth not help thee, how shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?
২৭রাজা বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু যদি না রক্ষা করেন, আমি কোথা থেকে তোমাকে রক্ষা করব? খামার থেকে, না আঙ্গুর কুণ্ড থেকে?”
28 And the king said to her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said to me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.
২৮রাজা আরও বললেন, “তোমার কি হয়েছে?” উত্তরে সে বলল, “এই স্ত্রীলোকটী আমাকে বলেছিল, ‘তোমার ছেলেটিকে দাও, আজ আমরা তাকে খাই, কাল আমার ছেলেটিকে খাব।’
29 So we boiled my son, and ate him: and I said to her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.
২৯তখন আমরা আমার ছেলেটিকে রান্না করে খেলাম। পরের দিন আমি তাকে বললাম, ‘তোমার ছেলেটিকে দাও, আমরা খাই,’ কিন্তু এ তার ছেলেকে লুকিয়ে রেখেছে।”
30 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he tore his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth beneath upon his flesh.
৩০স্ত্রীলোকটীর এই কথা শুনে রাজা তাঁর পোশাক ছিঁড়লেন; তখনও তিনি দেওয়ালের উপর দিয়ে হাঁটছিলেন; তাতে লোকেরা দেখতে পেল যে, পোশাকের নিচে তাঁর গায়ে চট বাঁধা।
31 Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.
৩১পরে তিনি বললেন, “আজ যদি শাফটের ছেলে ইলীশায়ের মাথা তার কাঁধে থাকে, তবে ঈশ্বর যেন আমাকে ঐ রকম ও তার থেকে বেশি শাস্তি দেন।”
32 But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away my head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?
৩২ইলীশায় তখন তাঁর গৃহে বসে ছিলেন এবং তাঁর সঙ্গে প্রাচীনেরা বসেছিলেন; ইতিমধ্যে রাজা তাঁর সামনে থেকে একজন লোক পাঠালেন। কিন্তু সেই দূতটি সেখানে পৌঁছাবার আগেই ইলীশায় প্রাচীনদের বললেন, “তোমরা কি দেখতে পাচ্ছ, সেই খুনীর ছেলে আমার মাথা কেটে ফেলবার জন্য লোক পাঠিয়েছে? দেখ, সেই দূত এলে দরজা বন্ধ কোরো এবং তার সামনেই দরজাটি বন্ধ করবে; তার মালিকের পায়ের শব্দ কি তার পিছু পিছু শোনা যাচ্ছে না?”
33 And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down to him: and he said, Behold, this evil is from the LORD; why should I wait for the LORD any longer?
৩৩তিনি তাদের সঙ্গে কথা বলছেন, এমন দিনের দেখ, দূতটি তাঁর কাছে এল; তারপর রাজা বললেন, “দেখ, এই বিপদ সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকেই হল, তবে আমি কেন সদাপ্রভুর অপেক্ষা করব?”
