2 Kings 18
1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
E sucedeu que, no terceiro ano de Hoseas, filho de Ela, rei de Israel, começou a reinar Ezequias, filho de Achaz, rei de Judá.
2 Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.
Tinha vinte e cinco anos de idade quando começou a reinar, e vinte e nove anos reinou em Jerusalém: e era o nome de sua mãe Abi, filha de Zacarias.
3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.
E fez o que era reto aos olhos do Senhor, conforme tudo o que fizera David, seu pai.
4 He removed the high places, and broke the images, and cut down the groves, and broke in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for till those days the children of Israel burnt incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.
Este tirou os altos, e quebrou as estátuas, e deitou abaixo os bosques, e fez em pedaços a serpente de metal que Moisés fizera; porquanto até àquele dia os filhos de Israel lhe queimavam incenso, e lhe chamaram Nehustan.
5 He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.
No Senhor Deus de Israel confiou, de maneira que depois dele não houve seu semelhante entre todos os reis de Judá, nem entre os que foram antes dele.
6 For he clung to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.
Porque se chegou ao Senhor, não se apartou de após ele, e guardou os mandamentos que o Senhor tinha dado a Moisés.
7 And the LORD was with him; and he prospered wherever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.
Assim foi o Senhor com ele; para onde quer que saiu se conduzia com prudência: e se rebelou contra o rei da Assyria, e não o serviu.
8 He smote the Philistines, even to Gaza, and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.
Ele feriu os philisteus até Gaza, como também os termos dela, desde a torre dos atalaias até à cidade forte.
9 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.
E sucedeu, no quarto ano do rei Ezequias (que era o sétimo ano de Hoseas, filho de Ela, rei de Israel), que Salmanasar, rei d'Assyria, subiu contra Samaria, e a cercou.
10 And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
E a tomaram ao fim de três anos, no ano sexto d'Ezequias, que era o ano nono de Hoseas, rei de Israel, quando tomaram Samaria.
11 And the king of Assyria carried away Israel to Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:
E o rei d'Assyria transportou a Israel para a Assyria: e os fez levar a Halah e a Habor, junto ao rio de Gozan, e às cidades dos medos;
12 Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.
Porquanto não obedeceram à voz do Senhor seu Deus, antes traspassaram o seu concerto; e tudo quanto Moisés, servo do Senhor, tinha ordenado, nem o ouviram nem o fizeram.
13 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
Porém no ano décimo quarto do rei Ezequias subiu Sanherib, rei d'Assyria, contra todas as cidades fortes de Judá, e as tomou.
14 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; withdraw from me: that which thou puttest on me I will bear. And the king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
Então Ezequias, rei de Judá, enviou ao rei d'Assyria, a Lachis, dizendo: Pequei; torna-te de mim; tudo o que me impuzeres levarei. Então o rei d'Assyria impoz a Ezequias, rei de Judá, trezentos talentos de prata e trinta talentos de ouro.
15 And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasuries of the king’s house.
Assim deu Ezequias toda a prata que se achou na casa do Senhor e nos tesouros da casa do rei.
16 At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
Naquele tempo cortou Ezequias o ouro das portas do templo do Senhor, e das hombreiras, de que Ezequias, rei de Judá, as cobrira, e o deu ao rei d'Assyria.
17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
Contudo enviou o rei d'Assyria a Tartan, e a Rabsaris, e a Rabsaké, de Lachis, com um grande exército ao rei Ezequias, a Jerusalém: e subiram, e vieram a Jerusalém; e, subindo e vindo ele, pararam ao pé do aqueduto da piscina superior, que está junto ao caminho do campo do lavandeiro.
18 And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
E chamaram o rei, e saiu a eles Eliakim, filho de Hilkias, o mordomo, e Sebna, o escrivão, e Joah, filho d'Asaph, o chanceler.
19 And Rabshakeh said to them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this in which thou trustest?
E Rabsaké lhes disse: Ora dizei a Ezequias: Assim diz o grande rei, o rei d'Assyria: Que confiança é esta em que confias?
20 Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words, ) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now in whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
Dizes tu (porém palavra de beiços é): há conselho e poder para a guerra. Em quem pois agora confias, que contra mim te rebelas?
21 Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man leaneth, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust on him.
Eis que agora tu confias naquele bordão de cana quebrada, no Egito, no qual, se alguém se encostar, entrar-lhe-á pela mão e lha furará: assim é faraó, rei do Egito, para com todos os que nele confiam.
22 But if ye say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
Se porém me disserdes: No Senhor nosso Deus confiamos: porventura não é este aquele cujos altos e cujos altares Ezequias tirou, e disse a Judá e a Jerusalém: Perante este altar vos inclinareis em Jerusalém?
23 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou shalt be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
Ora pois dá agora reféns ao meu senhor, o rei da Assyria, e dar-te-ei dois mil cavalos, se tu poderes dar cavaleiros para eles.
24 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
Como pois farias virar o rosto dum só príncipe dos menores servos de meu senhor? Porém tu confias no Egito, por causa dos carros e cavaleiros.
25 Have I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
Agora pois subi eu porventura sem o Senhor contra este lugar, para o destruir? O Senhor me disse: Sobe contra esta terra, e destroi-a.
26 Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, to Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
Então disse Eliakim, filho de Hilkias, e Sebna, e Joah, a Rabsaké: Rogamos-te que fales aos teus servos em syriaco; porque bem o entendemos; e não nos fales em judaico, aos ouvidos do povo que está em cima do muro.
27 But Rabshakeh said to them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men who sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own urine with you?
Porém Rabsaké lhes disse: Porventura mandou-me meu senhor só a teu senhor e a ti, para falar estas palavras? e não antes aos homens, que estão sentados em cima do muro, para que juntamente convosco comam o seu esterco e bebam a sua urina?
28 Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spoke, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:
Rabsaké pois se pôs em pé, e clamou em alta voz em judaico, e falou, e disse: Ouvi a palavra do grande rei, do rei da Assyria.
29 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:
Assim diz o rei: Não vos engane Ezequias; porque não vos poderá livrar da sua mão;
30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Nem tão pouco vos faça Ezequias confiar no Senhor, dizendo: Certamente nos livrará o Senhor, e esta cidade não será entregue na mão do rei da Assyria.
31 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:
Não deis ouvidos a Ezequias; porque assim diz o rei da Assyria: contratai comigo por presentes, e saí a mim, e coma cada um da sua vide, e da sua figueira, e beba cada um a água da sua cisterna,
32 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive oil and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not to Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.
Até que eu venha, e vos leve para uma terra como a vossa, terra de trigo e de mosto, terra de pão e de vinhas, terra de oliveiras, de azeite, e de mel; e assim vivereis, e não morrereis: e não deis ouvidos a Ezequias; porque vos incita, dizendo: O Senhor nos livrará.
33 Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Porventura os deuses das nações puderam livrar, cada um a sua terra, das mãos do rei da Assyria?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
Que é feito dos deuses de Hamath e de Arpad? Que é feito dos deuses de Sepharvaim, Hena e Iva? porventura livraram a Samaria da minha mão?
35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
Quais são eles, dentre todos os deuses das terras, que livraram a sua terra da minha mão? para que o Senhor livrasse a Jerusalém da minha mão?
36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
Porém calou-se o povo, e não lhe respondeu uma só palavra; porque mandado do rei havia, dizendo: Não lhe respondereis.
37 Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
Então Eliakim, filho d'Hilkias, o mordomo, e Sebna, o escrivão, e Joah, filho de Asaph, o chanceler, vieram a Ezequias com os vestidos rasgados, e lhe fizeram saber as palavras de Rabsaké.
