< Proverbs 13 >

1 A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a mocker will not listen to rebuke.
El hijo sabio toma el castigo del padre; mas el burlador no escucha la reprensión.
2 From the fruit of his mouth a person enjoys good things, but the appetite of the treacherous is for violence.
Del fruto de su boca el hombre comerá bien; mas el alma de los prevaricadores morirá de hambre.
3 The one who guards his mouth protects his life, but the one who opens wide his lips will ruin himself.
El que guarda su boca guarda su alma; mas el que mucho abre sus labios tendrá calamidad.
4 The appetite of lazy people craves but gets nothing, but the appetite of diligent people will be richly satisfied.
El alma del perezoso desea, y nada alcanza; mas el alma de los diligentes será engordada.
5 The righteous person hates lies, but a wicked person makes himself repugnant, and he does what is shameful.
El justo aborrece la palabra de mentira; mas el impío se hace odioso y abominable.
6 Righteousness protects those who are faultless in their path, but wickedness turns away those who commit sin.
La justicia guarda al de perfecto camino; mas la impiedad trastornará al pecador.
7 There is someone who enriches himself, but has nothing at all, and there is someone who gives everything away, yet is truly wealthy.
Hay quienes se hacen ricos, y no tienen nada; y hay quienes se hacen pobres, y tienen muchas riquezas.
8 The ransom of a rich man's life is his wealth, but a poor person does not hear a threat.
La redención de la vida del hombre es sus riquezas; pero el pobre no oye censuras.
9 The light of righteous people rejoices, but the lamp of wicked people will be put out.
La luz de los justos se alegrará; mas se apagará la candela de los impíos.
10 Pride only breeds conflict, but for those who listen to good advice there is wisdom.
Ciertamente la soberbia dará a luz contienda; mas con los avisados es la sabiduría.
11 Wealth dwindles away when there is too much vanity, but the one who makes money by working with his hand will make his money grow.
Las riquezas de vanidad disminuirán; pero el que recoje trabajando las se aumentará.
12 When hope is postponed, it breaks the heart, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
La esperanza que se prolonga, es tormento del corazón; mas árbol de vida es el deseo cumplido.
13 Whoever despises instruction brings destruction on himself, but he who respects the commandment will be rewarded.
El que menosprecia la palabra, perecerá por ello; mas el que teme el mandamiento, será recompensado.
14 The teaching of a wise person is a fountain of life, turning you away from the snares of death.
La ley al sabio es manantial de vida, para apartarse de los lazos de la muerte.
15 Good insight wins favor, but the way of the treacherous is never-ending.
El buen entendimiento conciliará gracia; mas el camino de los prevaricadores es duro.
16 Prudent people act out of knowledge in every decision, but a fool parades his folly.
Todo hombre cuerdo obra con sabiduría; mas el loco manifestará su locura.
17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a faithful envoy brings reconciliation.
El mal mensajero caerá en mal; mas el mensajero fiel es medicina.
18 The one who ignores instruction will have poverty and shame, but honor will come to him who learns from correction.
Pobreza y vergüenza tendrá el que menosprecia el castigo; mas el que guarda la corrección, será honrado.
19 A longing realized is sweet to the appetite, but fools hate to turn away from evil.
El deseo cumplido deleita el alma; pero apartarse del mal es abominación a los locos.
20 Walk with wise people and you will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
El que anda con los sabios, sabio será; mas el que se allega a los locos, será destruido.
21 Disaster runs after sinners, but righteous people are rewarded with good.
Mal perseguirá a los pecadores; mas a los justos les será bien retribuido.
22 A good person leaves an inheritance for his grandchildren, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous person.
El bueno dejará herencia a los hijos de los hijos; y el haber del pecador, para el justo está guardado.
23 An unplowed field owned by the poor could produce much food, but it is swept away by injustice.
En el barbecho de los pobres hay mucho pan; mas se pierde por falta de juicio.
24 The one who does not discipline his son hates him, but one who loves his son is careful to instruct him.
El que detiene el castigo, a su hijo aborrece; mas el que lo ama, madruga a castigarlo.
25 The righteous person eats until he satisfies his appetite, but the stomach of the wicked is always hungry.
El justo come hasta saciar su alma; mas el vientre de los impíos tendrá necesidad.
