2 Chronicles 8
1 It came about at the end of twenty years, during which Solomon had built the house of Yahweh and his own house,

2 that Solomon rebuilt the towns that Hiram had given to him, and he settled the people of Israel in them.
il reconstruisit les villes que lui donna Huram et y établit des enfants d’Israël.
3 Solomon attacked Hamathzobah and defeated it.
Salomon marcha contre Hamath, vers Tsoba, et s’en empara.
4 He built Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the store cities, which he built in Hamath.
Il bâtit Thadmor au désert, et toutes les villes servant de magasins en Hamath.
5 Also he built Beth Horon the Upper and Beth Horon the Lower, cities fortified with walls, gates, and bars.
Il bâtit Beth-Horon la haute et Beth-Horon la basse, villes fortes, ayant des murs, des portes et des barres;
6 He built Baalath and all the store cities that he possessed, and all the cities for his chariots and the cities for his horsemen, and whatever he wished to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the lands under his rule.
Baalath, et toutes les villes servant de magasins et lui appartenant, toutes les villes pour les chars, les villes pour la cavalerie, et tout ce qu’il plut à Salomon de bâtir à Jérusalem, au Liban, et dans tout le pays dont il était le souverain.
7 As for all the people who were left of the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who did not belong to Israel,
Tout le peuple qui était resté des Héthiens, des Amoréens, des Phéréziens, des Héviens et des Jébusiens, ne faisant point partie d’Israël,
8 their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the people of Israel had not destroyed—Solomon made them into forced laborers, which they are to this day.
leurs descendants qui étaient restés après eux dans le pays et que les enfants d’Israël n’avaient pas détruits, Salomon les leva comme gens de corvée, ce qu’ils ont été jusqu’à ce jour.
9 However, Solomon made no forced laborers of the people of Israel. Instead, they became his soldiers, his commanders, his officers, and commanders of his chariot forces and his horsemen.
Salomon n’employa comme esclave pour ses travaux aucun des enfants d’Israël; car ils étaient des hommes de guerre, ses chefs, ses officiers, les commandants de ses chars et de sa cavalerie.
10 These were also the chief officers managing the supervisors who belonged to King Solomon, 250 of them, who supervised the people who did the work.
Les chefs placés par le roi Salomon à la tête du peuple, et chargés de le surveiller, étaient au nombre de deux cent cinquante.
11 Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David to the house that he had built for her, for he said, “My wife must not live in the house of David king of Israel, because wherever the ark of Yahweh has come is holy.”
Salomon fit monter la fille de Pharaon de la cité de David dans la maison qu’il lui avait bâtie; car il dit: Ma femme n’habitera pas dans la maison de David, roi d’Israël, parce que les lieux où est entrée l’arche de l’Éternel sont saints.
12 Then Solomon offered burnt offerings to Yahweh on his altar that he had built in front of the portico.
Alors Salomon offrit des holocaustes à l’Éternel sur l’autel de l’Éternel, qu’il avait construit devant le portique.
13 He offered sacrifices just as the daily schedule required; he offered them, following the directions found in the commandment of Moses, on the Sabbath days, the new moons, and on the set festivals three times every year: the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks, and the Festival of Shelters.
Il offrait ce qui était prescrit par Moïse pour chaque jour, pour les sabbats, pour les nouvelles lunes, et pour les fêtes, trois fois l’année, à la fête des pains sans levain, à la fête des semaines, et à la fête des tabernacles.
14 In keeping with the decrees of his father David, Solomon appointed the divisions of the priests to their work, and the Levites to their positions, in order to praise God and to serve before the priests, as the daily schedule required. He also appointed the gatekeepers by their divisions to every gate, for David, the man of God, had also commanded this.
Il établit dans leurs fonctions, telles que les avait réglées David, son père, les classes des sacrificateurs selon leur office, les Lévites selon leur charge, consistant à célébrer l’Éternel et à faire jour par jour le service en présence des sacrificateurs, et les portiers distribués à chaque porte d’après leurs classes; car ainsi l’avait ordonné David, homme de Dieu.
15 These people did not deviate from the commands of the king to the priests and Levites concerning any matter, or concerning the storerooms.
On ne s’écarta point de l’ordre du roi pour les sacrificateurs et les Lévites, ni pour aucune chose, ni pour ce qui concernait les trésors.
16 All the work ordered by Solomon was completed, from the day the foundation of the house of Yahweh was laid until it was finished. The house of Yahweh was completed.
Ainsi fut dirigée toute l’œuvre de Salomon, jusqu’au jour où la maison de l’Éternel fut fondée et jusqu’à celui où elle fut terminée. La maison de l’Éternel fut donc achevée.
17 Then Solomon went to Ezion Geber and then to Elath on the coast, in the land of Edom.
Salomon partit alors pour Étsjon-Guéber et pour Éloth, sur les bords de la mer, dans le pays d’Édom.
18 Hiram sent him ships commanded by his own officers, men who knew the sea, and with the servants of Solomon they went to Ophir and they took from there 450 talents of gold and brought it to King Solomon.
Et Huram lui envoya par ses serviteurs des navires et des serviteurs connaissant la mer. Ils allèrent avec les serviteurs de Salomon à Ophir, et ils y prirent quatre cent cinquante talents d’or, qu’ils apportèrent au roi Salomon.
