1 Chronicles 11
1 Then all Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “Look, we are your flesh and bone.
Tout Israël s’assembla auprès de David à Hébron, en disant: « Voici que nous sommes tes os et ta chair.
2 In the recent past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led the Israelite army. Yahweh your God said to you, 'You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become a ruler over my people Israel.'”
Autrefois déjà, quand Saül était roi, c’était toi qui menais et ramenais Israël. Et Yahweh, ton Dieu, t’a dit: C’est toi qui paîtras mon peuple d’Israël, et c’est toi qui seras chef sur mon peuple d’Israël. »
3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before Yahweh. They anointed David king over Israel. In this way, the word of Yahweh that had been declared by Samuel came true.
Ainsi tous les anciens d’Israël vinrent auprès du roi à Hébron, et David fit alliance avec eux devant Yahweh, à Hébron; et ils oignirent David pour roi sur Israël, selon la parole de Yahweh prononcée par Samuel.
4 David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus). Now the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.
David marcha avec tout Israël contre Jérusalem, qui est Jébus; là étaient les Jébuséens, habitants du pays.
5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You will not come in here.” But David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.
Les habitants de Jébus dirent à David: « Tu n’entreras pas ici. » Mais David s’empara de la forteresse de Sion: c’est la cité de David.
6 David had said, “Whoever attacks the Jebusites first will become chief and commander.” So Joab son of Zeruiah attacked first, so he was made the chief.
David dit: « Quiconque battra le premier les Jébuséens sera chef et prince. » Joab, fils de Sarvia, monta le premier, et il devint chef.
7 Then David began to live in the stronghold. So they called it the city of David.
David s’établit dans la forteresse; c’est pourquoi on l’appela cité de David.
8 He built the city all around from the Millo and back to the surrounding wall. Joab restored the rest of the city.
Il bâtit la ville tout autour, à partir du Mello et aux environs, et Joab répara le reste de la ville.
9 David became greater and greater because Yahweh of hosts was with him.
David devenait de plus en plus grand, et Yahweh des armées était avec lui.
10 These were the leaders David had, who showed themselves strong with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, obeying the word of Yahweh concerning Israel.
Voici les chefs des héros qui étaient au service de David, et qui, avec tout Israël, l’aidèrent pendant son règne, après avoir contribué à le faire roi, selon la parole de Yahweh au sujet d’Israël.
11 This is a list of David's mighty men: Jashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, was commander of the officers. He killed three hundred men with his spear on one occasion.
Voici le nombre des héros qui étaient au service de David: Jesbaam, fils de Hachamoni, chef des Trente. Il brandit sa lance sur trois cents hommes, qu’il fit périr en une seule fois.
12 After him was Eleazar son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men.
Après lui, Eléazar, fils de Dodo, l’Ahohite; il était parmi les trois vaillants.
13 He was with David at Pas Dammim, and there the Philistines assembled together for battle, where there was a barley field and the army fled from the Philistines.
Il était avec David à Phes-Domim, et les Philistins s’y étaient rassemblés pour combattre. Il y avait là une pièce de terre pleine d’orge, et le peuple fuyait devant les Philistins.
14 They stood in the middle of the field. They defended it and cut down the Philistines and Yahweh rescued them with a great victory.
Ils se placèrent au milieu du champ, le défendirent et battirent les Philistins; et Yahweh opéra une grande délivrance.
15 Then three of the thirty leaders went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Adullam. The army of the Philistines was camped in the Valley of Rephaim.
Trois d’entre les trente capitaines descendirent auprès de David sur le rocher, à la caverne d’Odollam, tandis que le camp des Philistins était dressé dans la vallée des Réphaïm.
16 At that time David was in his stronghold, a cave, while the Philistines had established their camp at Bethlehem.
David était alors dans la forteresse, et il y avait un poste de Philistins à Bethléem.
17 David was longing for water and said, “If only someone would give me water to drink from the well at Bethlehem, the well that is by the gate!”
David eut un désir, et il dit: « Qui me fera boire de l’eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem? »
18 So these three mighty men broke through the army of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, the well at the gate. They took the water and brought it to David, but he refused to drink it. Instead, he poured it out to Yahweh.
Aussitôt les trois hommes, passant au travers du camp des Philistins, puisèrent de l’eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem. Ils la prirent et l’apportèrent à David; mais David ne voulut pas la boire, et il en fit une libation à Yahweh,
19 Then he said, “May it be that I should never do this! Should I drink the blood of these men who have risked their lives?” Because they had put their lives at risk, David refused to drink it. These were the deeds of the three mighty men.
en disant: « Que mon Dieu me garde de faire cela! Boirais-je le sang de ces hommes avec leur vie? Car c’est au péril de leur vie qu’ils l’ont apportée. » Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois braves.
20 Abishai brother of Joab was captain over the Three. He once used his spear against three hundred and killed them. He is mentioned along with the Three.
Abisaï, frère de Joab, était chef des Trois; il brandit sa lance contre trois cents hommes et les tua, et il eut du renom parmi les trois.
21 Of the Three, he was given double honor and became their captain, even though he was not one of them.
Il était le plus considéré de la seconde triade, et il fut leur chef; mais il n’égala pas les trois premiers.
22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a brave warrior from Kabzeel, who did great deeds. He killed the two sons of Ariel of Moab. He also went down into a pit and killed a lion on a day when the snow was falling.
Banaïas, fils de Joïada, fils d’un homme vaillant et riche en exploits, de Cabséel. Il frappa les deux ariels de Moab. Il descendit et frappa le lion au milieu de la citerne un jour de neige.
23 He even killed an Egyptian, a man five cubits tall. The Egyptian had a spear like a weaver's beam, but he went down to him with only a staff. He seized the spear out of the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear.
Il frappa un Egyptien d’une stature de cinq coudées; et dans la main de l’Egyptien, il y avait une lance semblable à une ensouple de tisserand. Il descendit vers lui avec un bâton, et il arracha la lance de la main de l’Egyptien et le frappa de sa propre lance.
24 Benaiah son of Jehoiada did these feats, and he was named alongside the three mighty men.
Voilà ce que fit Banaïas, fils de Joïada, et il eut du renom parmi les trois vaillants.
25 He was more highly regarded than the thirty soldiers in general, but he was not regarded quite as highly as the three mighty men. Yet David put him in charge of his bodyguard.
Voici qu’il était plus considéré que les trente, mais il n’égala pas les trois. David le fit membre de son conseil secret.
26 The mighty men were Asahel brother of Joab, Elhanan son of Dodo of Bethlehem,
