< Genesis 23 >

1 When Sarah was 127 years old,
Ary ny andro niainan’ i Saraha dia fito amby roa-polo amby zato taona; izany no taona niainan’ i Saraha.
2 she died at Kiriath-Arba [town], which is now called Hebron, in the Canaan region. After Abraham mourned for her,
Ary Saraha dia maty tao Kiriat-arba (Hebrona izany) tany amin’ ny tany Kanana; dia tonga Abrahama hisaona an’ i Saraha sy hitomany azy.
3 he left the body of his wife and [went and] spoke to some of the descendants of Heth, saying,
Ary Abrahama nitsangana niala avy teo anilan’ ny fatin’ ny vadiny, dia niteny tamin’ ny taranak’ i Heta ka nanao hoe:
4 “I am a foreigner [DOU] living among you, [so I do not own any land here]. Sell me some land here so that I can bury my wife’s body.”
Vahiny sy mpivahiny eto aminareo aho; omeo tany fandevenana eto aminareo aho mba handevenako ny fatin’ ny vadiko tsy ho eto anatrehako.
5 They replied to him,
Dia namaly an’ i Abrahama ny taranak’ i Heta ka nanao taminy hoe:
6 “Sir, you are a powerful prince among us. Choose one of our finest tombs and bury your wife’s [body] in it. None of us will refuse to sell land to you for a tomb for your relatives’ bodies.”
Mihainoa anay, tompokolahy: andrian-dehibe eto aminay ianao; koa izay tsara indrindra amin’ ny fasanay no andeveno ny fatin’ ny vadinao; tsy misy aminay hiaro ny fasany aminao tsy handevenanao ny fatin’ ny vadinao.
7 Then Abraham stood up and bowed [in respect] in front of the people who owned the land, the descendants of Heth.
Dia nitsangana Abrahama ka niankohoka teo anatrehan’ ny taranak’ i Heta tompon-tany,
8 He said to them, “If you say that you are willing for me to bury my wife’s body here, listen to me, and ask Ephron, the son of Zohar for me,
dia niteny taminy ka nanao hoe: Raha sitrakareo ary ny handevenako ny fatin’ ny vadiko mba tsy ho eto anatrehako, dia mihainoa ahy, ka mba iangavio kely amin’ i Efrona, zanak’ i Zohara,
9 to sell to me the cave in the Machpelah area, which is at the end of his field. Ask him to sell it to me for the full price he wants, so that I can have a burial ground among you.”
mba homeny ahy ny zohy ao Makpela izay azy, dia ilay eo amin’ ny sisin’ ny sahany; amin’ izay vola tokom-bidiny no aoka hanomezany azy ho ahy eto aminareo ho tany fandevenana.
10 Ephron was sitting among the people near the city gate where many [HYP] descendants of Heth had gathered. He heard what Abraham said to them.
Ary Efrona nipetraka teo amin’ ny taranak’ i Heta; dia namaly an’ i Abrahama Efrona Hetita teo anatrehan’ ny taranak’ i Heta, dia izay rehetra niditra teo am-bavahadin’ ny tanànany, ka nanao hoe:
11 [So, just to make the customary reply to start the real discussion about a price], Ephron said, “No, sir, listen to me. I will give to you the field and the cave in it, without charge, with the people here as witnesses.”
Tsia, tompokolahy, fa mihainoa ahy: ny saha dia omeko anao, ary ny zohy izay eo anatiny koa dia omeko anao; eto imason’ ny zanaky ny fireneko no anomezako azy ho anao; aleveno ny fatin’ ny vadinao.
12 Abraham again bowed before the people who lived in the area,
Ary niankohoka teo anatrehan’ ny olona tompon-tany Abrahama,
13 and said to Ephron, as all the others were listening, “[No], listen to me. If you are willing, I will pay for the field. You tell me what the price is, and I will give it to you. If you accept it, the field will become mine, and I can bury my wife’s body there.”
dia niteny tamin’ i Efrona teo anatrehan’ ny olona tompon-tany ka nanao hoe: Kanefa raha mba hihaino ahy ihany ianao, dia homeko ny vidin’ ny saha; raiso amiko izany, dia haleviko ao ny fatin’ ny vadiko.
14 Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,
Ary Efrona dia namaly an’ i Abrahama ka nanao taminy hoe:
15 “Sir, listen to me. The land is worth 400 pieces of silver. But the price is not important to you and me. Give me the money and bury your wife’s body there.”
Tompokolahy, mihainoa ahy: tany tokony ho lafo sekely volafotsy efa-jato, inona moa izany amintsika roa lahy? fa aleveno ny fatin’ ny vadinao.
16 Abraham agreed with Ephron about the price, and weighed for Ephron the 400 pieces of silver he had suggested, as everyone was listening, using the standard weights for silver used [in that area] by people who sold things.
Dia neken’ i Abrahama ny tenin’ i Efrona, ka nolanjainy ho azy ny vola izay efa voalazany teo anatrehan’ ny taranak’ i Heta, dia sekely volafotsy efa-jato lanin’ ny mpivarotra.
17 So Ephron’s field in the Machpelah area, near Mamre, and the cave in the field, and all the trees that were in the field inside the boundaries of the land, became Abraham’s possession.
Ary ny sahan’ i Efrona, ilay teo Makpela, izay tandrifin’ i Mamre, dia ny saha sy ny zohy izay teo anatiny mbamin’ ny hazo rehetra izay teo anatiny, izay teo amin’ ny sisiny rehetra manodidina, dia natao varo-maty
18 It became Abraham’s property as all the descendants of Heth were listening there at the city gate.
tamini’ i Abrahama ho fananana, teo imason’ ny taranak’ i Heta, dia izay rehetra niditra teo am-bavahadin’ ny tanànany.
19 After that, Abraham buried his wife Sarah’s body in the cave in the field in the Machpelah area near Mamre, which is now called Hebron [city], in the Canaan region.
Ary rehefa afaka izany, Abrahama dia nandevina an’ i Saraha vadiny tao amin’ ny zohy tao amin’ ny saha Makpela tandrifin’ i Mamre (Hebrona izany), ao amin’ ny tany Kanana;
20 So the field and the cave in it were officially sold to Abraham by the descendants of Heth, to be used as a burial ground.
ka ny saha mbamin’ ny zohy izay ao anatiny dia nataon’ ny taranak’ i Heta varo-maty tamin’ i Abrahama ho tany fandevenana.
