Matthew 26
1 AND when Jeshu had finished all these discourses, he said to his disciples,
Quand Jésus eut achevé tous ces discours, il dit à ses disciples:
2 You know not that after two days is the Petzcha, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified.
«Vous savez que dans deux jours aura lieu la Pâque, et le Fils de l'homme va être livré pour être crucifié.»
3 Then assembled the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, in the hall of the chief of the priests, who was called Kaiapha.
Alors s'assemblèrent les chefs des prêtres et les Anciens du peuple dans la coure du Grand-Prêtre appelé Kaïphe,
4 And they held counsel concerning Jeshu, how that by artifice they might apprehend and kill him.
et ils tinrent conseil sur les moyens de s'emparer de Jésus par ruse et de le tuer.
5 And they said, Let it not be on the festival, lest there be a tumult among the people.
Toutefois ils disaient: «Rien pendant la fête, il pourrait y avoir un soulèvement du peuple. »
6 And when Jeshu was at Bethania, in the house of Shemun the leper,
Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux.
7 there drew near to him a woman who carried a vase of aromatic balsam, great of price, and she poured it upon the head of Jeshu as he reclined.
Comme il était à table, une femme portant un vase d'albâtre rempli d'un parfum de grand prix, s'approcha de lui et répandit ce parfum sur sa tête.
8 But his disciples saw and were displeased, and said, For what is this destruction?
Ce que voyant, les disciples s'indignèrent. «A quoi bon cette perte?» dirent-ils.
9 For this could have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
«On aurait pu vendre cela fort cher et en donner le prix à des pauvres.»
10 But Jeshu knew, and said to them, Why grieve you the woman? a good work hath she wrought upon me.
Mais Jésus, le sachant, leur dit: «Pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme? C'est une bonne oeuvre qu'elle a faite pour moi:
11 For in all time the poor you have with you, but me you have not in all time with you.
car les pauvres, vous les avez toujours avec vous, tandis que moi, vous ne m'avez pas pour toujours.
12 For this (woman) who hath poured this balsam upon my body, as unto my funeral hath done.
Si elle a répandu sur mon corps ce parfum, elle l'a fait pour m'ensevelir.
13 And Amen I say unto you, Wheresoever this my Gospel shall be proclaimed, in all the world, this also which she hath done shall be told for her memorial.
En vérité, je vous le dis: Partout où sera prêché cet Évangile — dans le monde entier — on racontera aussi, en mémoire d'elle, ce qu'elle a fait.»
14 Then went one from the twelve, named Jihuda S'carjuta, unto the chief priests,
C'est alors que l'un des douze, appelé Judas l'Iskariôte, alla, trouver les chefs des prêtres
15 and said to then, What are you willing to give me, and I will deliver him to you? But they settled to him thirty of silver.
et leur dit: «Que voulez-vous me donner? je vous le livrerai.» Ils lui payèrent trente sicles d'argent.
16 And from that time he sought to him opportunity to betray him.
A partir de ce moment, il chercha une occasion favorable pour le livrer.
17 BUT in the first day of the (Phatiree) unleavened-bread days, the disciples came to Jeshu, and said to him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
Le premier jour des Azymes, les disciples vinrent à Jésus et dirent: «Où veux-tu que nous te préparions le repas pascal?»
18 But he said to them, Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, Our master saith, My time hath come! with thee will I perform the passover with my disciples.
«Allez à la ville, leur répondit-il, chez un tel et parlez-lui ainsi: le maître te fait dire: mon temps est proche; c'est chez toi que je célèbre la Pâque avec mes disciples.»
19 And the disciples did as Jeshu had commanded, and prepared the passover.
Les disciples firent comme Jésus leur avait ordonné et ils préparèrent la Pâque.
20 And when it was evening, he reclined with his twelve disciples.
Le soir venu, il se mit à table avec les douze,
21 And while they were eating, he said, Amen I say unto you, that one from you betrayeth me.
et il dit pendant qu’ils mangeaient: «En vérité, je vous le dis, un de vous me livrera.»
22 And they were very sad, and began to say to him, one by one of them, My Lord, is it I?
Extrêmement affligés, ils se mirent chacun à lui demander: «Est-ce moi, Seigneur?»
23 But he answered and said, One who dippeth his hand with me in the dish, he shall betray me.
Il leur répondit par ces paroles: «Celui qui a mis la main au plat avec moi, celui-là même me livrera.
24 And the Son of man goeth as it is written concerning him; but woe to him, to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! Better had it been for that man if he had not been born.
Le Fils de l'homme cependant s'en va, selon qu'il est écrit de lui; mais malheur à cet homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est livré! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme-là ne jamais être né!»
25 Then Jihuda the traitor answered and said, Am not I (he), Rabi? Jeshu replieth to him, Thou hast said!
Judas, celui qui le livra, s'adressa alors à lui: Est-ce que c'est moi, Rabbi?» - «Tu l’as dit», répondit Jésus.
26 But while they were eating, Jeshu took the bread, and blessed, and brake, and gave to his disciples, and said, Take, eat, this (is) my body.
Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain et, ayant prononcé la bénédiction, il le rompit et le donna aux disciples en disant: «Prenez, mangez, ceci est mon corps.»
27 And he took the cup, and offered thanks, and gave to them, and said, Take, drink of this all of you:
Prenant ensuite une coupe, il rendit grâces, la leur donna et dit: «Buvez-en tous;
28 this (is) my blood of the new covenant, which for multitudes is shed for the remission of sins.
car ceci est mon sang, le sang de l'alliance, lequel, en faveur de plusieurs, est répandu pour la rémission des péchés.
29 But I say to you, that I will not drink from henceforth of this product of the vines, until the day in which I shall drink it with you new in the kingdom of Aloha.
Et désormais, je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus de ce fruit de la vigne jusqu'en ce jour où je le boirai avec vous, nouveau, dans le Royaume de mon Père.»
30 And they sang praises, and went forth unto the mount of Olives.
Après le chant des Psaumes, ils partirent pour le mont des Oliviers.
31 THEN said Jeshu unto them, You all shall be offended in me this night; for it is written, I will strike the shepherd, and scattered shall be the sheep of his flock.
Jésus leur dit alors: «Cette nuit, je vous serai à tous une occasion de tomber. Il est écrit en effet: Je frapperai le berger et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées.
32 But after that I am risen I am before you in Galila.
Mais, après ma résurrection, je vous précéderai en Galilée.»
33 Kipha answered and said to him, Though every man should be offended in thee, I never will be offended in thee.
Pierre lui adressa ces paroles: «Quand tous viendraient à faillir à cause de toi, pour moi je ne succomberai jamais!»
34 Jeshu saith to him, Amen I say to thee, that in this night, before the cock shall crow, three times thou wilt deny me.
Jésus lui répondit: «En vérité, je te dis que, durant cette nuit, avant qu'un coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois!»
35 Kipha saith to him, If I am to die with thee, I will not deny thee. The same also all the disciples said.
Pierre lui répliqua: «Me fallût-il mourir avec toi, non, je ne te renierai pas!» Tous les disciples parlèrent de même.
36 Then cometh Jeshu with them unto the place which is called Gedsiman; and he said to his disciples, Sit here while I go and pray.
Alors Jésus vint avec les disciples en un lieu appelé Gethsémané et leur dit: «Asseyez-vous ici pendant que je me retirerai là et que je prierai.»
37 And he took Kipha and the two sons of Zabdai; and he began to be sorrowful, and to be vehemently agonized.
Puis, prenant avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée, il commença à être dans la tristesse et dans l'angoisse;
38 And he said to them, My soul is afflicted unto death; wait for me here, and watch with me.
il leur dit alors: «Mon âme est accablée de tristesse jusqu'à la mort. Restez ici et veillez avec moi!»
39 And he removed a little, and fell upon his face, praying, and saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not as I will, but as thou.
Puis, s'étant un peu avancé, il se prosterna la face contre terre, et il pria en disant: «Mon Père, si cela est possible, que cette coupe passe loin de moi! Toutefois, non pas comme je veux, mais comme tu veux.»
40 Then he came to his disciples, and found them sleeping; and he said to Kipha, How, could you not for one hour watch with me?
Il retourna près des disciples et il les trouva qui dormaient et il dit à Pierre: «Ainsi vous n'avez pas eu la force de veiller une seule heure avec moi?
41 Be watchful and pray, that you enter not into temptation. The spirit is ready, but the body is infirm.
Veillez et priez, afin de ne pas succombera l'épreuve; certes, l'esprit est prompt, mais la chair est faible.»
42 Again he went the second time, and prayed, and said, My Father, if it be not possible for this cup to pass, unless I drink it, be done thy will!
De nouveau, une seconde fois, il s'éloigna et pria, en disant: «Mon Père, si cette coupe ne peut passer sans que je la boive, que ta volonté soit faite!»
43 And he came again, and found them asleep; for their eyes had become heavy.
Il revint encore vers eux et les trouva qui dormaient; leurs yeux, en effet, étaient appesantis.
44 And he left them, and went again, and prayed the third time, and said the same word.
Il les laissa, s'en alla de nouveau et pria pour la troisième fois, répétant les mêmes paroles.
45 Then he came to the disciples, and said to them, Sleep on now, and be at rest; lo, the hour cometh, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Puis il vint aux disciples et leur dit: «Dormez maintenant; reposez-vous; voici que l'heure approche et le Fils de l'homme va être livré entre les mains des pécheurs.
46 Arise, let us go: behold, he cometh who betrayeth me.
Levez-vous! allons! le voici! il approche celui qui me livre!»
47 And while he was speaking, behold, Jihuda the traitor, one from the twelve, came, and a great multitude with him, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
Il parlait encore, lorsqu'arriva Judas, l'un des douze, et avec lui, envoyée par les chefs des prêtres et les Anciens du peuple, une foule nombreuse armée d'épées et de bâtons.
48 And Jihuda the traitor had given to them a sign, and said, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he: take him.
Le traître était convenu avec eux d'un signal; il leur avait dit: «Celui auquel je donnerai un baiser, ce sera lui; vous vous en saisirez, »
49 And immediately he approached Jeshu, and said, Peace, my master! and kissed him.
Il s'approcha aussitôt de Jésus et, en lui disant: «Salut, Rabbi!», il l'embrassa, avec effusion.
50 But he, Jeshu, said to him, (Is it) for that thou hast come, my companion? Then they came on, and laid their hands upon Jeshu, and took him.
«Mon ami, lui dit Jésus, pourquoi es-tu ici?» Ils s'avancèrent alors et, mettant la main sur lui, ils le saisirent.
51 And, behold, one from those who were with Jeshu stretched forth his hand, and unsheathed a sword, and struck a servant of the high priest, and took off his ear.
Aussitôt un de ceux qui étaient avec Jésus étendit la main, tira son épée, frappa le serviteur du Grand-Prêtre et lui coupa l'oreille.
52 Then said Jeshu to him, Return thy sword to his place; for every one of them who take swords, by swords shall die.
Jésus lui dit alors: «Remets ton épée à sa place, car tous ceux qui prennent l'épée périront par l'épée.
53 Or thinkest thou that I cannot request from my Father, and he shall appoint to me now more than twelve legions of angels?
Crois-tu qu'il me serait impossible d'invoquer mon Père, qui enverrait à mon secours, maintenant même, plus de douze légions d'anges;
54 (But) how, then, would the scripture be accomplished, that thus it ought to be?
mais comment s'accompliraient les Écritures, où il est annoncé qu'il en doit être ainsi?»
55 In that hour Jeshu said to the multitudes, As against a robber are you come out, with swords, and with clubs, to seize me? Every day with you in the temple I sat and taught, and you did not apprehend me.
Ce fut à ce moment que Jésus dit à cette troupe: «Pour vous emparer de moi, vous êtes venus comme contre un brigand, avec des épées et des bâtons. Tous les jours, assis dans le Temple, j'enseignais et vous ne m'avez pas arrêté.».
56 But this was done that what is written in the prophets might be fulfilled. Then the disciples all deserted him, and fled.
(Tout cela arriva pour accomplir ce qu'avaient écrit les prophètes). L'abandonnant alors, tous les disciples prirent la fuite.
57 And they who apprehended Jeshu led him unto Kaiapha, chief of the priests, where the jurists and elders were assembled.
Ceux qui avaient arrêté Jésus le conduisirent chez Kaïphe, le grand-prêtre, où s'étaient réunis les Scribes et les Anciens.
58 But Shemun Kipha went after him from afar unto the court of the chief of the priests, and entered and sat within with the attendants, that he might see the end.
Pierre pourtant le suivait de loin. Il alla jusqu'à la cour du Grand-Prêtre, y entra et s'assit parmi les gens de service pour voir comment cela finirait.
59 But the chief priests, and the elders, and the whole assembly, sought against Jeshu witnesses, that they might put him to death;
Les chefs des prêtres et le Sanhédrin tout entier cherchaient contre Jésus quelque faux témoignage qui le fît condamner à mort;
60 but they found not (any). And many witnesses of falsehood came. But, last, two came near,
mais ils n'en trouvaient pas, bien que plusieurs faux témoins se fussent présentés. Enfin, il en survint deux
61 declaring, This said, I can destroy the temple of Aloha, and in three days rebuild it.
qui parlèrent ainsi: «Cet homme a dit: «Je peux renverser le Temple de Dieu et en trois jours le rebâtir.»
62 And the chief of the priests arose, and said to him, Dost thou return no word? What are these witnessing against thee?
Le Grand-Prêtre se leva et lui dit: «Tu ne réponds rien à ce que ces gens-ci déposent contre toi?»
63 But Jeshu was silent. And the chief of the priests answered and said to him, I swear thee, by Aloha the Living, that thou declare to us whether thou be the Meshicha, the Son of Aloha?
Mais Jésus gardait le silence. Le Grand-Prêtre lui dit: «Par le Dieu vivant, je t'adjure de nous dire si tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu.»
64 Jeshu saith to him, Thou hast said: but I say to you, That hereafter ye shall see him, the Son of man, sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.
Jésus lui répondit: «Tu l'as dit; et, de plus, je vous le déclare, désormais vous verrez le Fils de l'homme siégeant à la droite de la Puissance et venant sur les nuées du ciel.»
65 Then the chief of the priests tore his robes, and said, Behold, he hath blasphemed! what further need have we of witnesses? Behold, now we have heard his blasphemy.
Alors le Grand-Prêtre déchira ses vêtements: «Il a blasphémé! dit-il, qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins? vous venez vous-même d'entendre le blasphème!
66 What will you? They answered saying, He deserves death.
Quel est votre avis?» Ils répondirent: «Il mérite la mort.»
67 Then did they spit in his face, and smote him; and others struck him,
Dès ce moment ils lui crachèrent au visage et lui donnèrent des coups de poing; d'autres des coups de bâton,
68 saying, Prophesy to us, Meshicha! Who is he that smiteth thee?
en disant: «Fais le prophète, Christ, en nous nommant celui qui t'a frappé.»
69 But Kipha was sitting without, in the hall, and a certain female domestic approached him, saying to him, Thou also wast with Jeshu Natsroia.
Pierre cependant était dehors, assis dans la cour. Une servante, s’étant approchée, lui dit: «Toi aussi tu étais avec Jésus de Galilée.»
70 But he denied before all, and said, I know not what thou sayest.
Et lui de le nier devant tout le monde. «Je ne sais pas, dit-il, de quoi tu parles.»
71 And when he had gone out into the vestibule, another saw him, and said to them, This also was there with Jeshu Natsroia.
Comme il repassait la porte, une autre servante l'aperçut et s'adressant à ceux qui étaient présents: «Celui-ci était avec Jésus de Nazareth.»
72 And again he denied with oaths, I know not the man.
Il le nia de nouveau: «Je jure que je ne connais pas cet homme.»
73 But, after a little while, they who were standing drew near, and said to Kipha, Assuredly thou art of them; for thy speech also makes thee known.
Un moment après, ceux qui étaient là vinrent à Pierre et lui dirent: «Certainement, tu en es, toi aussi; ta prononciation te trahit.»
74 Then began he to imprecate and to swear, I know not the man! And in that hour the cock crowed.
Il se livra alors à des imprécations; il jura qu'il ne connaissait pas cet homme. Soudain un coq chanta.
75 And Kipha remembered the word of Jeshu, who had said to him, That before the cock shall crow, three times wilt thou have denied me. And he went without, and wept bitterly.
Et Pierre se souvint de la parole qu'avait dite Jésus: «Avant qu'un coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois.» Il sortit et, dehors, il pleura amèrement.
