ஆயினும் யெகோவாவுக்கென்று ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கப்பட்ட பொருட்களின் விஷயத்தில் இஸ்ரயேலர் உண்மையற்றவர்களாய் இருந்தார்கள். கர்மீயின் மகனாகிய ஆகான் அவைகளில் சிலவற்றை எடுத்ததன் மூலம் யெகோவாவின் கட்டளை மீறப்பட்டது. கர்மீ, யூதா கோத்திரத்தைச் சேர்ந்த சேராகின் மகனாகிய சிம்ரியின் மகன். அதனால் இஸ்ரயேலருக்கு எதிராய் யெகோவாவின் கோபம் மூண்டது.

அப்பொழுது யோசுவா சில மனிதரை அப்பிரதேசத்தை உளவுபாருங்கள் என்று எரிகோவிலிருந்து ஆயிபட்டணத்திற்கு அனுப்பினான். ஆயி, பட்டணம் பெத்தேலுக்குக் கிழக்கே பெத் ஆவெனுக்கு அருகேயுள்ளது. அப்படியே அவர்கள் போய் ஆயிபட்டணத்தை உளவுபார்த்தார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது யோசுவா, “ஆண்டவராகிய யெகோவாவே, இந்த மக்களை ஏன் யோர்தானைக் கடக்கப்பண்ணி இங்கு கொண்டுவந்தீர்? எங்களை எமோரியர் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து அழிப்பதற்காகவோ? நாங்கள் யோர்தானின் மறுகரையில் குடியிருப்பதில் திருப்தியடைந்திருந்தால் நலமாயிருந்திருக்குமே!

யெகோவாவே, இப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேலர் எதிரிகளால் தோற்கடிக்கப்பட்டுவிட்டார்களே! நான் இதற்கு என்ன சொல்வேன்?

அப்பொழுது யோசுவா ஆகானிடம், “என் மகனே, இஸ்ரயேலின் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவுக்கு மகிமைசெலுத்தி அவரைத் துதி, நீ செய்த காரியத்தை ஒளிக்காமல் எனக்கு சொல்” என்றான்.
