< Genesis 16 >

1 And Sarai [the] wife of Abram not she had borne children to him and [belonged] to her a maidservant Egyptian and name her [was] Hagar.
Sarai Abrams wyfe bare him no childerne. But she had an hand mayde an Egiptian whose name was Hagar.
2 And she said Sarai to Abram here! please he has restrained me Yahweh from bearing children go please into maidservant my perhaps I will be built up (from her *Lb) and he listened Abram to [the] voice of Sarai.
Wherfore the sayde vnto Abram. Beholde the LORde hath closed me that I can not bere. I praye the goo in vnto my mayde peradueture I shall be multiplyed by meanes of her And Abram herde the voyce of Sarai. Than Sarai
3 And she took Sarai [the] wife of Abram Hagar the Egyptian maidservant her from [the] end of ten years of [the] dwelling of Abram in [the] land of Canaan and she gave her to Abram husband her of him to a wife.
Abrams wife toke Hagar hyr mayde the Egitian (after Abram had dwelled. x. yere in the lande of Canaan) and gaue her to hyr husbonde Abram to be his wyfe.
4 And he went into Hagar and she conceived and she saw that she had conceived and she became insignificant mistress her in eyes her.
And he wente in vnto Hagar and she conceaved. And when she sawe that she had conceyved hyr mastresse was despised in hyr syghte.
5 And she said Sarai to Abram injustice my [is] on you I I put maidservant my in bosom your and she has seen that she had conceived and I have become insignificant in eyes her may he judge Yahweh between me and between you.
Than sayd Sarai vnto Abram: Thou dost me vnrighte for I haue geuen my mayde in to thy bosome: and now because she seyth that she hath coceaved I am despysed in hyr syghte: the LORde iudge betwene the and me.
6 And he said Abram to Sarai there! maidservant your [is] in hand your do to her the good in eyes your and she afflicted her Sarai and she fled from before her.
Than sayde Abra to Sarai: beholde thy mayde is in thy hande do with hyr as it pleaseth the. And because Sarai fared foule with her she fled from her.
7 And he found her [the] angel of Yahweh at [the] spring of water in the wilderness at the spring on [the] way of Shur.
And the angell of the LORde founde her besyde a fountayne of water in the wyldernes: euen by a well in the way to Sur.
8 And he said O Hagar [the] maidservant of Sarai where? from this have you come and where? are you going and she said from before Sarai mistress my I [am] fleeing.
And he sayde: Hagar Sarais mayde whence comest thou and whether wylt thou goo? And she answered: I flee from my mastresse Sarai.
9 And he said to her [the] angel of Yahweh return to mistress your and humble yourself under hands her.
And the angell of the LORde sayde vnto her: returne to thy mastresse agayne and submytte thy selfe vnder her handes.
10 And he said to her [the] angel of Yahweh certainly I will increase offspring your and not it will be counted from multitude.
And the angell of ye LORde sayde vnto her: I will so encrease thy seed that it shall not be numbred for multitude.
11 And he said to her [the] angel of Yahweh here you [are] pregnant and you will bear a son and you will call name his Ishmael for he has listened Yahweh to affliction your.
And the LORdes angell sayd further vnto her: se thou art wyth childe and shalt bere a sonne and shalt call his name Ismael: because the LORDE hath herde thy tribulation.
12 And he he will be a wild donkey of a man hand his [will be] on everyone and [the] hand of everyone [will be] on him and on [the] face of all brothers his he will dwell.
He will be a wylde man and his hande will be agenst every man and euery mans hande agenst him. And yet shall he dwell faste by all his brothren.
13 And she called [the] name of Yahweh who spoke to her you [are] a God of seeing for she said ¿ also here have I seen [the] back of [the] [one who] sees me.
And she called the name of the LORde that spake vnto her: thou art the God that lokest on me for she sayde: I haue of a suertie sene here the backe parties of him that seith me.
14 There-fore someone called the well Beer Lahai Roi there! [it is] between Kadesh and between Bered.
Wherfore she called the well the well of the lyuynge that seith me which well is betwene Cades and Bared.
15 And she bore Hagar to Abram a son and he called Abram [the] name of son his whom she had borne Hagar Ishmael.
And Hagar bare Abram a sonne and Abram called his sons name which Hagar bare Ismaell.
16 And Abram [was] a son of eighty year[s] and six years when bore Hagar Ishmael to Abram.
And Abram was. lxxxvi. yere olde when Hagar bare him Ismael.
