Deuteronomy 4
1 And now O Israel listen to the statutes and to the judgments which I [am] about to teach you to observe so that you may live and you will go and you will take possession of the land which Yahweh [the] God of ancestors your [is] about to give to you.
| ועתה ישראל שמע אל החקים ואל המשפטים אשר אנכי מלמד אתכם לעשות--למען תחיו ובאתם וירשתם את הארץ אשר יהוה אלהי אבתיכם נתן לכם |
2 Not you must add to the word which I [am] about to command you and not you must diminish from it to keep [the] commandments of Yahweh God your which I [am] about to command you.
| לא תספו על הדבר אשר אנכי מצוה אתכם ולא תגרעו ממנו--לשמר את מצות יהוה אלהיכם אשר אנכי מצוה אתכם |
3 Own eyes your [are] the [ones which] saw [that] which he did Yahweh at Baal Peor for every person who he walked after Baal Peor he destroyed him Yahweh God your from midst your.
| עיניכם הראות את אשר עשה יהוה בבעל פעור כי כל האיש אשר הלך אחרי בעל פעור--השמידו יהוה אלהיך מקרבך |
4 And you who were clinging on Yahweh God your [are] alive all of you this day.
| ואתם הדבקים ביהוה אלהיכם--חיים כלכם היום |
5 See - I have taught you statutes and judgments just as he commanded me Yahweh God my to do thus in [the] midst of the land where you [are] about to go there towards to take possession of it.
| ראה למדתי אתכם חקים ומשפטים כאשר צוני יהוה אלהי לעשות כן--בקרב הארץ אשר אתם באים שמה לרשתה |
6 And you will take care and you will observe [them] for that [will be] wisdom your and understanding your to [the] eyes of the peoples which they will hear! all the statutes these and they will say certainly [is] a people wise and understanding the nation great this.
| ושמרתם ועשיתם--כי הוא חכמתכם ובינתכם לעיני העמים אשר ישמעון את כל החקים האלה ואמרו רק עם חכם ונבון הגוי הגדול הזה |
7 For who? [is] a nation great which [belongs] to it a god near to it like Yahweh God our in all calling we to him.
| כי מי גוי גדול אשר לו אלהים קרבים אליו כיהוה אלהינו בכל קראנו אליו |
8 And who? [is] a nation great which [belongs] to it statutes and judgments righteous like all the law this which I [am] setting before you this day.
| ומי גוי גדול אשר לו חקים ומשפטים צדיקם ככל התורה הזאת אשר אנכי נתן לפניכם היום |
9 Only take heed to yourself and guard self your exceedingly lest you should forget the things which they have seen eyes your and lest they should depart from heart your all [the] days of life your and you will make known them to children your and to [the] children of children your.
| רק השמר לך ושמר נפשך מאד פן תשכח את הדברים אשר ראו עיניך ופן יסורו מלבבך כל ימי חייך והודעתם לבניך ולבני בניך |
10 [the] day When you stood before Yahweh God your at Horeb when said Yahweh to me assemble to me the people so I may make hear them words my that they will learn! to fear me all the days which they [will be] alive on the land and children their they will teach!
| יום אשר עמדת לפני יהוה אלהיך בחרב באמר יהוה אלי הקהל לי את העם ואשמעם את דברי אשר ילמדון ליראה אתי כל הימים אשר הם חיים על האדמה ואת בניהם ילמדון |
11 And you drew near! and you stood! under the mountain and the mountain [was] burning with fire to [the] heart of the heavens darkness cloud and thick darkness.
| ותקרבון ותעמדון תחת ההר וההר בער באש עד לב השמים--חשך ענן וערפל |
12 And he spoke Yahweh to you from [the] middle of the fire a sound of words you [were] hearing and a form not you [were] seeing except a voice.
| וידבר יהוה אליכם מתוך האש קול דברים אתם שמעים ותמונה אינכם ראים זולתי קול |
13 And he declared to you covenant his which he commanded you to observe [the] ten the words and he inscribed them on two tablets of stone.
| ויגד לכם את בריתו אשר צוה אתכם לעשות--עשרת הדברים ויכתבם על שני לחות אבנים |
14 And me he commanded Yahweh at the time that to teach you statutes and judgments to observe you them in the land where you [are] about to pass over there towards to take possession of it.
| ואתי צוה יהוה בעת ההוא ללמד אתכם חקים ומשפטים לעשתכם אתם--בארץ אשר אתם עברים שמה לרשתה |
15 And you will take heed exceedingly to selves your for not you saw any form on [the] day [when] he spoke Yahweh to you at Horeb from [the] middle of the fire.
| ונשמרתם מאד לנפשתיכם כי לא ראיתם כל תמונה ביום דבר יהוה אליכם בחרב מתוך האש |
16 Lest you should act corruptly! and you will make for yourselves an image of a form of any figure a likeness of a male or a female.
| פן תשחתון--ועשיתם לכם פסל תמונת כל סמל תבנית זכר או נקבה |
17 A likeness of any animal which [is] on the earth a likeness of any bird of wing which it flies in the heavens.
| תבנית כל בהמה אשר בארץ תבנית כל צפור כנף אשר תעוף בשמים |
18 A likeness of any creeping [thing] on the ground a likeness of any fish which [is] in the waters from under to the earth.
| תבנית כל רמש באדמה תבנית כל דגה אשר במים מתחת לארץ |
19 And lest you should lift up eyes your the heavens towards and you will see the sun and the moon and the stars all [the] host of the heavens and you will be drawn aside and you will bow down to them and you will serve them which he has assigned Yahweh God your them to all the peoples under all the heavens.
| ופן תשא עיניך השמימה וראית את השמש ואת הירח ואת הכוכבים כל צבא השמים ונדחת והשתחוית להם ועבדתם--אשר חלק יהוה אלהיך אתם לכל העמים תחת כל השמים |
20 And you he took Yahweh and he brought out you from [the] furnace of iron from Egypt to become for him a people of inheritance as the day this.
| ואתכם לקח יהוה ויוצא אתכם מכור הברזל ממצרים להיות לו לעם נחלה כיום הזה |
21 And Yahweh he was angry with me on words your and he swore to not to pass over I the Jordan and to not to go into the land good which Yahweh God your [is] about to give to you an inheritance.
| ויהוה התאנף בי על דבריכם וישבע לבלתי עברי את הירדן ולבלתי בא אל הארץ הטובה אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך נחלה |
22 For I [am] about to die in the land this not I [am] about to pass over the Jordan and you [are] about to pass over and you will take possession of the land good this.
| כי אנכי מת בארץ הזאת אינני עבר את הירדן ואתם עברים וירשתם את הארץ הטובה הזאת |
23 Take heed to yourselves lest you should forget [the] covenant of Yahweh God your which he has made with you and you will make for yourselves an image a form of anything which he commanded you Yahweh God your.
| השמרו לכם פן תשכחו את ברית יהוה אלהיכם אשר כרת עמכם ועשיתם לכם פסל תמונת כל אשר צוך יהוה אלהיך |
24 For Yahweh God your [is] a fire consuming he a God jealous.
| כי יהוה אלהיך אש אכלה הוא אל קנא |
25 For you will father children and children of children and you will grow old in the land and you will act corruptly and you will make an image of a form of anything and you will do the evil in [the] eyes of Yahweh God your to provoke to anger him.
| כי תוליד בנים ובני בנים ונושנתם בארץ והשחתם ועשיתם פסל תמונת כל ועשיתם הרע בעיני יהוה אלהיך להכעיסו |
26 I call as witnesses against you this day the heavens and the earth that certainly you will perish! quickly from on the land where you [are] about to pass over the Jordan there towards to take possession of it not you will prolong! days on it for utterly you will be destroyed!
| העידתי בכם היום את השמים ואת הארץ כי אבד תאבדון מהר מעל הארץ אשר אתם עברים את הירדן שמה לרשתה לא תאריכן ימים עליה כי השמד תשמדון |
27 And he will scatter Yahweh you among the peoples and you will be left men of number among the nations where he will drive away Yahweh you there towards.
| והפיץ יהוה אתכם בעמים ונשארתם מתי מספר בגוים אשר ינהג יהוה אתכם שמה |
28 And you will serve there gods [the] work of [the] hands of a human wood and stone which not they see! and not they hear! and not they eat! and not they smell!
| ועבדתם שם אלהים מעשה ידי אדם עץ ואבן--אשר לא יראון ולא ישמעון ולא יאכלון ולא יריחן |
29 And you will seek from there Yahweh God your and you will find [him] for you will seek him with all heart your and with all being your.
| ובקשתם משם את יהוה אלהיך ומצאת כי תדרשנו בכל לבבך ובכל נפשך |
30 When it is distress to you and they will come upon you all the things these at [the] end of the days and you will return to Yahweh God your and you will listen to voice his.
| בצר לך--ומצאוך כל הדברים האלה באחרית הימים ושבת עד יהוה אלהיך ושמעת בקלו |
31 For [is] a God compassionate Yahweh God your not he will abandon you and not he will destroy you and not he will forget [the] covenant of ancestors your which he swore to them.
| כי אל רחום יהוה אלהיך לא ירפך ולא ישחיתך ולא ישכח את ברית אבתיך אשר נשבע להם |
32 That ask please to days former which they were before you from the day when he created God - humankind on the earth and to from [the] end of the heavens and to [the] end of the heavens ¿ has it happened like the thing great this or ¿ has it been heard like it.
| כי שאל נא לימים ראשנים אשר היו לפניך למן היום אשר ברא אלהים אדם על הארץ ולמקצה השמים ועד קצה השמים הנהיה כדבר הגדול הזה או הנשמע כמהו |
33 ¿ Has it heard a people [the] voice of a god speaking from [the] middle of the fire just as you have heard you and has it lived?
| השמע עם קול אלהים מדבר מתוך האש כאשר שמעת אתה--ויחי |
34 Or - ¿ has it attempted a god to come to take for itself a nation from [the] midst of a nation by trials by signs and by wonders and by battle and by a hand strong and by an arm outstretched and by terrors great like all that he did for you Yahweh God your in Egypt to eyes your.
| או הנסה אלהים לבוא לקחת לו גוי מקרב גוי במסת באתת ובמופתים ובמלחמה וביד חזקה ובזרוע נטויה ובמוראים גדלים ככל אשר עשה לכם יהוה אלהיכם במצרים--לעיניך |
35 You you were shown to know that Yahweh he [is] God there not [is] still more from to alone him.
| אתה הראת לדעת כי יהוה הוא האלהים אין עוד מלבדו |
36 From the heavens he caused to hear you voice his to discipline you and on the earth he showed you fire his great and words his you heard from [the] middle of the fire.
| מן השמים השמיעך את קלו ליסרך ועל הארץ הראך את אשו הגדולה ודבריו שמעת מתוך האש |
37 And because that he loved ancestors your and he chose offspring his after him and he brought out you by own presence his by power his great from Egypt.
| ותחת כי אהב את אבתיך ויבחר בזרעו אחריו ויוצאך בפניו בכחו הגדל ממצרים |
38 To dispossess nations great and mighty more than you from before you to bring in you to give to you land their an inheritance as the day this.
| להוריש גוים גדלים ועצמים ממך--מפניך להביאך לתת לך את ארצם נחלה--כיום הזה |
39 And you will know this day and you will bring back to heart your that Yahweh he [is] God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath there not [is] still more.
| וידעת היום והשבת אל לבבך כי יהוה הוא האלהים בשמים ממעל ועל הארץ מתחת אין עוד |
40 And you will keep statutes his and commandments his which I [am] commanding you this day that it will go well for you and for children your after you and so that you may prolong days on the land which Yahweh God your [is] about to give to you all the days.
| ושמרת את חקיו ואת מצותיו אשר אנכי מצוך היום אשר ייטב לך ולבניך אחריך--ולמען תאריך ימים על האדמה אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך כל הימים |
41 Then he set apart Moses three cities on [the] other side of the Jordan [the] rising of towards [the] sun.
| אז יבדיל משה שלש ערים בעבר הירדן מזרחה שמש |
42 To flee there towards a killer who he will kill neighbor his with no knowledge and he not [was] hating him from yesterday [the] third day and he will flee to one of the cities these and he will live.
| לנס שמה רוצח אשר ירצח את רעהו בבלי דעת והוא לא שנא לו מתמל שלשם ונס אל אחת מן הערים האל--וחי |
43 Bezer in the wilderness in [the] land of the plain for the Reubenite[s] and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadite[s] and Golan in Bashan for the Manassite[s].
| את בצר במדבר בארץ המישר לראובני ואת ראמת בגלעד לגדי ואת גולן בבשן למנשי |
44 And this [is] the law which he set Moses before [the] people of Israel.
| וזאת התורה אשר שם משה לפני בני ישראל |
45 These [are] the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments which he spoke Moses to [the] people of Israel when came out they from Egypt.
| אלה העדת והחקים והמשפטים--אשר דבר משה אל בני ישראל בצאתם ממצרים |
46 On [the] other side of the Jordan in the valley opposite to Beth Peor in [the] land of Sihon [the] king of the Amorite[s] who [was] dwelling in Heshbon whom he struck down Moses and [the] people of Israel when came out they from Egypt.
| בעבר הירדן בגיא מול בית פעור בארץ סיחן מלך האמרי אשר יושב בחשבון--אשר הכה משה ובני ישראל בצאתם ממצרים |
47 And they took possession of land his and [the] land of - Og [the] king of Bashan [the] two [the] kings of the Amorite[s] who [was] on [the] other side of the Jordan [the] rising of [the] sun.
| ויירשו את ארצו ואת ארץ עוג מלך הבשן שני מלכי האמרי אשר בעבר הירדן--מזרח שמש |
48 From Aroer which [is] on [the] edge of [the] wadi of Arnon and to [the] mountain of Siyon that [is] Hermon.
| מערער אשר על שפת נחל ארנן ועד הר שיאן--הוא חרמון |
49 And all the Arabah [the] other side of the Jordan east-wards and to [the] sea of the Arabah under [the] slopes of Pisgah.
| וכל הערבה עבר הירדן מזרחה ועד ים הערבה--תחת אשדת הפסגה |
