1 And he took Samuel [the] flask of oil and he poured [it] on head his and he kissed him and he said ¿ In-deed he has anointed you Yahweh (to ruler over people his over of Israel and you she will retain among a people Yahweh and you you deliver him from [the] hand of enemies its from round about and this of you [will be] the sign he has anointed you Yahweh *X) over inheritance his to ruler.
Then took Samuel a flask of oil, and poured out upon his head, and kissed him, —and said—Is it not, that Yahweh hath anointed thee over his inheritance, as leader?
2 When going you this day from with me and you will find two men near [the] tomb of Rachel in [the] territory of Benjamin at Zelzah and they will say to you they have been found the she-asses which you went to seek and there! he has abandoned father your [the] matter of the she-asses and he is anxious to you saying what? will I do for son my.
When thou departest, to-day, from me, then shalt thou find two men by the grave of Rachel, within the boundary of Benjamin, in Zelzah, —and they will say unto thee, The asses are found, which thou wentest to seek, and lo! thy father hath abandoned caring for the asses, and is concerned for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
3 And you will pass on from there and beyond and you will come to [the] great tree of Tabor and they will find you there three men going up to God Beth-el one [will be] carrying - three kids and one [will be] carrying three round loaves of bread and one [will be] carrying a skin of wine.
Then shalt thou pass on quickly from thence onwards, and come as far as the oak of Tabor, and there shall find thee there, three men going up unto God, at Bethel, —one, carrying three kids, and, another, carrying three cakes of bread, and, another, carrying a skin of wine;
4 And they will ask of you to welfare and they will give to you two bread[s] and you will take [them] from hand their.
then will they ask thee, of thy welfare, —and give thee two cakes of bread, which thou shalt receive at their hand.
5 After thus you will come Gibeah of God where [are] there [the] garrisons of [the] Philistines and it will be when coming you there the city and you will meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place and [will be] before them lyre and tambourine and flute and harp and they [will be] prophesying.
After that, shalt thou come unto the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines, —and it shall be, as thou comest in thither into the city, thou shalt light upon a band of prophets, coming down from the high place, and, before them, a harp, and a timbrel, and a flute, and a lyre, they having been moved to prophesy.
6 And it will rush on you [the] spirit of Yahweh and you will prophesy with them and you will be changed into a man another.
Then will come suddenly upon thee, the Spirit of Yahweh, and thou shalt be moved to prophesy with them, —and shalt be changed into another man.
7 And it will be that (they will come *Qk) the signs these to you do for yourself [that] which it will find hand your for God [is] with you.
And it shall be, when these signs shall come unto thee, then act thou for thyself, as thou shalt find occasion, for, God, is with thee.
8 And you will go down before me Gilgal and there! I [am] about to come down to you to offer up burnt offerings to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings seven days may you wait until come I to you and I will make known to you [that] which you will do.
And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal, for lo! I am coming down unto thee, to offer up ascending-offerings, to sacrifice peace-offerings, —seven days, shalt thou tarry, until I come unto thee, then will I let thee know what thou shalt do.
9 And it was when turned he shoulder his to go from with Samuel and he changed for him God a heart another and they came all the signs these on the day that.
And so it was, that, when he turned away to depart from Samuel, God gave him another heart, —and all these signs came to pass that day.
10 And they came there Gibeah towards and there! a company of prophets to meet him and it rushed on him [the] spirit of God and he prophesied in midst of them.
And, when they came thither to the hill, lo! a band of prophets coming to meet him, —then came suddenly upon him, the Spirit of God, and he was moved to prophesy in their midst.
11 And it was every [one who] knew him from yesterday three days ago and they saw and there! with prophets [he is] prophesying and it said the people each to neighbor his what? this has it happened to [the] son of Kish ¿ also [is] Saul among the prophets.
And it came to pass, that, all who knew him aforetime, looked, and lo! with the prophets, he did prophesy. So the people said, one to another—What, now, hath befallen the son of Kish? Is, even Saul, among the prophets?
12 And he answered a man from there and he said and who? [is] father their there-fore it became a proverb ¿ also [is] Saul among the prophets.
Then responded one of that place, and said, But who is, their father? For this cause, it became a proverb, Is, even Saul, among the prophets?
13 And he finished from prophesying and he came the high place.
And, when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.
14 And he said [the] uncle of Saul to him and to servant his where? did you go and he said to seek the she-asses and we saw that there not and we went to Samuel.
Then said Saul’s uncle unto him, and unto his young man—Whither have ye been? And he said, To seek the asses, and, when they were nowhere, to be seen, we came unto Samuel.
15 And he said [the] uncle of Saul tell! please to me what? did he say to you Samuel.
And Saul’s uncle said, —Do tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said to you.
16 And he said Saul to uncle his certainly he told to us that they had been found the she-asses and [the] word of the kingship not he told to him which he had said Samuel.
And Saul said unto his uncle, He, told, us that the asses were found, —but, as to the matter of the kingdom, he told him not what Samuel had said.
17 And he called together Samuel the people to Yahweh Mizpah.
Then Samuel called out the people, unto Yahweh, at Mizpah,
18 And he said - to [the] people of Israel. Thus he says Yahweh [the] God of Israel I I brought up Israel from Egypt and I delivered you from [the] hand of Egypt and from [the] hand of all the kingdoms that were oppressing you.
and said unto the sons of Israel—Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel: I myself, brought up Israel, out of Egypt, —and rescued you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the kingdoms that distressed you.
19 And you this day you have rejected God your who he [is] a deliverer of you from all calamities your and troubles your and you have said to him for a king you will appoint over us and therefore present yourselves before Yahweh to tribes your and to families your.
Yet, ye, to-day, have rejected your God, who, himself, hath been giving you salvation from all your calamities and your distresses, and ye have said to him: A king, shalt thou set over us, —Now, therefore, present yourselves before Yahweh, by your tribes, and by your thousands.
20 And he brought near Samuel all [the] tribes of Israel and it was taken by lot [the] tribe of Benjamin.
And, when Samuel had brought near all the tribes of Israel, then was taken the tribe of Benjamin.
21 And he brought near [the] tribe of Benjamin (to families its *QK) and it was taken by lot [the] clan of Matri and he was taken by lot Saul [the] son of Kish and they sought him and not he was found.
And, when he had brought near the tribe of Benjamin, by their families, then was taken the family of Matri, —and, when he had brought near the family of Matri, man by man, then was taken Saul the son of Kish; so they sought him, but he was not to be found.
22 And they enquired again by Yahweh ¿ has he come yet here [the] man. And he said Yahweh here! he [is] hiding himself into the baggage.
Then asked they again of Yahweh, Hath there yet to come in hither a man? And Yahweh said, Lo! he, hath hid himself among the stores.
23 And they ran and they took him from there and he presented himself in among the people and he was tall more than all the people from shoulder his and up-wards.
So they ran, and fetched him thence, and, when he presented himself in the midst of the people, then was he [seen to be] taller than any of the people, from his shoulders and upwards.
24 And he said Samuel to all the people ¿ do you see [the one] whom he has chosen him Yahweh for there not [is] like him among all the people and they shouted all the people and they said may he live the king.
And Samuel said unto all the people—Have ye seen him whom Yahweh hath chosen, that there is none like him, among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said—Let the king live!
25 And he spoke Samuel to the people [the] right[s] of the kingship and he wrote in the book and he set [it] before Yahweh and he sent away Samuel all the people each man to own house his.
Then Samuel declared unto the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a scroll, and laid it up before Yahweh. And Samuel sent away all the people, every man to his own house.
26 And also Saul he went to own house his Gibeah towards and they went with him the army which he had touched God heart their.
Yea, even Saul, went to his own house, at Gibeah, —and the valiant men whose heart God had moved went with him.
27 And sons of worthlessness they said what? will he deliver us this one and they despised him and not they brought to him a gift and he was like [one who] kept silent.
But, abandoned men, said—How can this one save us? So they treated him with contempt, and brought him no present, —but he was as one that was deaf.
