< Psalms 57 >

1 To the Chief Musician. "Do not destroy." A precious Psalm, of David. When he fled from the face of Saul into the Cave. Show me favour, O God, Show me favour, For, in thee, hath my soul sought refuge, —And, in the shadow of thy wings, will I seek refuge, Until the storm of ruin pass by.
`In Ebreu thus, To the victorie, lese thou not the semeli song, `ether the `swete song of Dauid, `whanne he fledde fro the face of Saul in to the denne. `In Jeroms translacioun thus, For victorie, that thou lese not Dauid, meke and simple, whanne he fledde fro the face of Saul in to the denne. God, haue thou merci on me, haue thou merci on me; for my soule tristith in thee. And Y schal hope in the schadewe of thi wyngis; til wickidnesse passe.
2 I will cry unto God Most High, Unto GOD, who accomplisheth on my behalf:
I schal crye to God altherhiyeste; to God that dide wel to me.
3 He will send out of heaven, that he may save me, He who is panting for me, hath reproached. (Selah) God will send out his lovingkindness and his faithfulness.
He sente fro heuene, and delyuerede me; he yaf in to schenschip hem that defoulen me. God sente his merci and his treuthe,
4 My soul, is in the midst of lions, I lie down amidst flames, As for the sons of men, Their teeth, are spear and arrows, And, their tongue, is a sharp sword.
and delyuerede my soule fro the myddis of whelpis of liouns; Y slepte disturblid. The sones of men, the teeth of hem ben armuris and arowis; and her tunge is a scharp swerd.
5 Be exalted Above the Heavens, O God, Above all the earth, thy glory!
God, be thou enhaunsid aboue heuenes; and thi glorie aboue al erthe.
6 A net, did they fix for my steps, My soul was bowed down, —They digged before me a pit, They fell into the midst thereof! (Selah)
Thei maden redi a snare to my feet; and thei greetly boweden my lijf. Thei delueden a diche bifore my face; and thei felden doun in to it.
7 Fixed is my heart, O God, Fixed is my heart, I will sing, and touch the strings.
God, myn herte is redi, myn herte is redi; Y schal singe, and Y schal seie salm.
8 Awake, mine honour, Awake, harp and lyre, I will awaken the dawn;
Mi glorie, rise thou vp; sautrie and harpe, rise thou vp; Y schal rise vp eerli.
9 I will thank thee, among the peoples, O My Lord, I will praise thee in song, among the races of men.
Lord, Y schal knouleche to thee among puplis; and Y schal seie salm among hethene men.
10 For, great, unto the heavens, is thy lovingkindness, And, unto the skies, thy faithfulness.
For thi merci is magnified til to heuenes; and thi treuthe til to cloudis.
11 Be exalted Above the heavens, O God, Above all the earth, thy glory!
God, be thou enhaunsid aboue heuenes; and thi glorie ouer al erthe.
