Proverbs 25
1 These also, are proverbs of Solomon, —which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah transcribed.
१ही शलमोनाची आणखी काही नीतिसूत्रे आहेत. यहूदाचा राजा हिज्कीया याच्या मनुष्यांनी याचा नक्कल केली.
2 The glory of God, is to conceal a thing, but, the glory of kings, is to search out a thing.
२काही गोष्टी गुपित ठेवणे यामध्ये देवाचे गौरव आहे, पण त्या गोष्टी शोधून काढणे यामध्ये राजाचे गौरव आहे.
3 The heavens for height, and the earth for depth, but, the heart of kings, cannot be searched.
३जसे उंचीमुळे आकाशाचा आणि खोलीमुळे पृथ्वीचा, तसे राजाचे मन गूढ आहे.
4 Remove the dross from the silver, and there cometh forth, to the refiner, a vessel:
४रुप्यातला गाळ काढून टाक, आणि धातू कामगार रुप्याचा उपयोग त्याच्या कामासाठी करू शकेल.
5 Remove a lawless man from before the king, that his throne, may be established in righteousness.
५त्याचप्रमाणे राजाच्या सानिध्यापासून दुष्टांना दूर कर म्हणजे त्याचे राजासन जे काही चांगले आहे त्यांनी भक्कम होईल.
6 Do not honour thyself before a king, nor, in the place of great men, do thou stand;
६राजासमोर स्वत: ची प्रतिष्ठा मिरवू नको. आणि थोर अधिकाऱ्यांच्या जागी उभा राहू नको.
7 For better it be said to thee, Come up hither, —than that thou be put lower down before a noble, whom thine own eyes, have beheld.
७कारण तुझ्यासमोर येणाऱ्या अधिपतीपुढे तुझा पाणउतारा करण्यापेक्षा, “वर येऊन बस” असे तुला म्हणावे हे अधिक चांगले आहे.
8 Do not go forth to strive in haste, —lest [thou know not] what to do in the latter end thereof, when thy neighbour, hath put thee to shame.
८फिर्याद करायला जाण्याची घाई करू नको. ती तू केलीस तर शेवटी तुझ्या शेजाऱ्याने तुला लज्जित केले तर परिणामी काय करू असे तुला होऊन जाईल.
9 Thy contention, urge thou with thy neighbour, and, the secret of another, do not reveal:
९तुमचे आणि तुमच्या शेजाऱ्याचे वाद आपसात चर्चा करून मिटव, आणि दुसऱ्याच्या गुप्त गोष्टी उघड करू नको.
10 Lest he that heareth expose thee, and, the report concerning thee, turn not away.
१०केली तर कदाचित ऐकणारा तुझी अप्रतिष्ठा करील, व हे दूषण तुला लागून राहील.
11 Golden fruit in figured silver baskets, is a word spoken on fitting occasion.
११जसे रुपेरी तबकात सोन्याचे सफरचंद, तसे निवडक चांगले शब्द बोलणे.
12 A ring of gold, and a vessel of precious metal, is a wise reprover, on a hearing ear.
१२जसे सोन्याची अंगठी किंवा दागिना शुद्ध सोन्यापासून करतात, तसाच दोष देणारा सुज्ञ ऐकणाऱ्याच्या कानांना आहे.
13 As the cold of snow in the day of harvest, is a faithful messenger to them who send him, —when, the life of his masters, he restoreth.
१३कापणीच्या समयी जसे बर्फाचे पेय, तसा विश्वासू दूत त्यास पाठवणाऱ्याला आहे कारण तो आपल्या धन्याचा जीव गार करतो.
14 Clouds and wind, when rain there is none, is the man who boasteth himself of a pretended gift.
१४जे लोक भेटी देण्याचे वचन देतात पण देत मात्र कधीच नाहीत, ते पाऊस न आणणारे ढग आणि वारा यांसारखे आहेत.
15 By long patience, is a judge persuaded, and, a soft tongue, breaketh the bone.
१५धीर धरल्याने राज्य करणाऱ्याचे मन वळते, आणि मऊ जीभ हाड फोडते.
16 Honey having found, eat to suffice thee, lest thou loathe it, and vomit it forth.
१६जर तुला मध सापडला तर तुला पुरे इतकाच खा; जास्त खाल्ला तर तू ओकून टाकशील.
17 Withhold thy foot from the house of thy neighbour, —lest he be weary of thee, and hate thee.
१७शेजाऱ्याच्या घरात सारखे जाऊ नका, जर गेलात तर तो कंटाळून तुमचा तिरस्कार करायला लागेल.
18 A hammer and a sword, and a sharpened arrow, is a man becoming a false witness against his neighbour.
१८जो कोणी मनुष्य आपल्या शेजाऱ्याविरूद्ध खोटी साक्ष देतो. जसे युद्घात सोटा, तलवार किंवा तीक्ष्ण बाण वापरतात यांसारखा तो आहे.
19 A broken tooth and a faltering foot, is confidence in the treacherous, in the day of danger.
१९संकटकाळी अविश्वासणाऱ्याच्या बोलण्यावर विश्वास ठेवणे, हे तुटलेल्या दाताने खाणे किंवा लचकलेल्या पायाने चालणे ह्यासारखे आहे.
20 As splendour of dress on a cold day—vinegar upon nitre, so is a singer with songs, unto a sad heart.
२०जो कोणी दु: खी हृदयापुढे गीत गातो, तो थंड हवामानात अंगावरील कपडे काढून टाकण्यासारखा, आणि सोड्यावर टाकलेल्या शिरक्यासारखा आहे.
21 If he that hateth thee hunger, give him bread to eat, and, if he be thirsty, give him water to drink;
२१तुमचा शत्रू जर भुकेला असला तर त्यास खायला अन्न दे आणि तो जर तान्हेला असला तर त्यास प्यायला पाणी दे;
22 For, burning coals, shalt thou be heaping upon his head, —and, Yahweh, will repay thee.
२२असे केल्याने त्याच्या मस्तकावर तू जळत्या निखाऱ्याची रास ठेवशील, आणि परमेश्वर तुम्हास त्याचे प्रतिपळ देईल.
23 A north wind, bringeth forth rain, and, a face stirred with indignation, a secretive tongue.
२३उत्तरेकडचा वारा पाऊस आणतो; त्याचप्रमाणे जो कोणी गुप्त गोष्टी सांगतो तो चेहरा क्रोधाविष्ट करतो.
24 Better to dwell on the corner of the roof, than a quarrelsome wife, and a house in common.
२४भांडखोर पत्नीबरोबर मोठ्या घरात राहण्यापेक्षा, धाब्याच्या कोपऱ्यात राहाणे अधिक चांगले आहे.
25 As cold water to a thirsty soul, so is a good report from a far country.
२५तहानलेल्या जिवाला थंडगार पाणी, तसे दूर देशातून आलेले चांगले वर्तमान आहे.
26 A fountain fouled, a spring spoiled, is a righteous man tottering before one who is lawless.
२६जसा घाणेरडा झालेला झरा किंवा नासलेले कारंजे, तसा दुष्टाच्यासमोर भ्रष्ट झालेला नीतिमान आहे.
27 To eat honey in abundance, is not good, nor is, searching out their own honour, an honourable thing.
२७खूप मध खाणे चांगले नाही, सन्मानावर सन्मान शोधणे हे तसेच आहे.
28 A city broken down without a wall, is a man who hath no control over his own spirit.
२८जर मनुष्य स्वत: वर ताबा मिळवू शकत नसेल, तर तो तटबंदी मोडून पडलेल्या शहरासारखा आहे.
