Joshua 22
1 Then, called Joshua—for the Reubenites, and for the Gadites, —and for the half tribe of Manasseh;
Alors Josué manda les Rubénites, les Gadites et la demi-Tribu de Manassé,
2 and said unto them, Ye, have observed all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, —and have hearkened unto my voice, in all that I commanded you:
et il leur dit: Vous avez observé tout ce que vous a prescrit Moïse, serviteur de l'Éternel, et obéi à ma voix dans tout ce que je vous ai commandé.
3 ye have not forsaken your brethren, these many days, unto this day, —but have kept the charge of the commandment of Yahweh your God.
Vous n'avez point abandonné vos frères pendant ce long temps jusqu'aujourd'hui, et vous avez observé ce qu'il fallait observer, le commandement de l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
4 Now, therefore, that Yahweh your God hath given rest unto your brethren, according as he spake unto them, —now, therefore, turn ye and get you to your homes within the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave unto you, over the Jordan.
Et maintenant l'Éternel, votre Dieu, a accordé le repos à vos frères, comme Il le leur avait promis; retournez donc et gagnez vos tentes, le pays qui est votre propriété, que vous a concédé Moïse, serviteur de l'Éternel, au delà du Jourdain.
5 Only, take ye diligent heed, to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you—to love Yahweh your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, —and to serve him—with all your heart, and with all your soul.
Seulement soyez très vigilants à mettre en pratique le commandement et la Loi que vous a prescrite Moïse, serviteur de l'Éternel, pour aimer l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et pour marcher dans toutes ses voies et garder ses commandements et vous attacher à Lui et Le servir de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme.
6 So Joshua blessed them, —and sent them away, and they took their journey unto their homes.
Et Josué les bénit et les congédia, et ils regagnèrent leurs tentes.
7 Now, unto the [one] half tribe of Manesseh, had Moses given a possession in Bashan, and, unto the [other] half, did Joshua give possession with their brethren, over the Jordan, westward, —moreover also, when Joshua sent them away unto their homes, he blessed them,
Or Moïse avait doté une moitié de la Tribu de Manassé en Basan, et Josué avait doté l'autre moitié avec leurs frères en deçà du Jourdain à l'occident. Et aussi lorsque Josué leur permit de regagner leurs tentes, il les bénit
8 and spake unto them, saying—With much wealth, return ye unto your homes, even with very much cattle, with silver and with gold, and with copper and with iron, and with very much raiment, —divide ye the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.
et leur parla en ces termes: C'est avec de grandes richesses que vous retournez à vos tentes, et avec des bestiaux très nombreux, avec de l'argent et de l'or et de l'airain et du fer et des vêtements en très grande quantité. Partagez le butin de vos ennemis avec vos frères.
9 So the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh. returned and departed from the sons of Israel, from Shiloh, which was in the land of Canaan, —to go unto the land of Gilead, unto the land of their possession, wherein they had received their possessions, at the bidding of Yahweh by the hand of Moses.
Ainsi s'en retournèrent et partirent les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad et une moitié de la Tribu de Manassé, d'avec les enfants d'Israël, de Silo dans le pays de Canaan, pour gagner le pays de Galaad, le pays qui était leur propriété, dont ils avaient pris possession sur l'ordre de l'Éternel, transmis par Moïse.
10 And, when they came into the circles of the Jordan, which were in the land of Canaan, —then did the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh build there an altar by the Jordan, an altar of large dimensions,
Et étant arrivés aux districts du Jourdain dans le pays de Canaan, les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad et la demi-Tribu de Manassé, bâtirent là un autel sur le Jourdain, autel d'une grande apparence.
11 And the sons of Israel heard say, —Lo! the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar in front of the land of Canaan, in the circles of the Jordan, in the region opposite the sons of Israel.
Et les enfants d'Israël ouïrent dire: Voilà que les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad et de la demi-Tribu de Manassé ont bâti l'autel en vue du pays de Canaan, dans les districts du Jourdain en face des enfants d'Israël.
12 And, when the sons of Israel heard, all the assembly of the sons of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war.
Et les enfants d'Israël l'ayant appris, toute l'Assemblée des enfants d'Israël se réunit à Silo pour se mettre en campagne contre eux.
13 And the sons of Israel sent unto the sons of Reuben and unto the sons of Gad and unto the half tribe of Manasseh, within the land of Gilead, —Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest;
Et les enfants d'Israël députèrent vers les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad et la demi-Tribu de Manassé au pays de Galaad, Phinées, fils du Prêtre Eléazar,
14 and ten princes with him, one prince of an ancestral house for each of the tribes of Israel, —they being, severally heads of their ancestral houses, among the thousands of Israel.
et dix Princes avec lui, un Prince par maison de toutes les Tribus d'Israël, et ils étaient chacun chefs de leurs maisons patriarcales des divisions d'Israël.
15 So they came in unto the sons of Reuben and unto the sons of Gad and unto the half tribe of Manasseh, within the land of Gilead, —and spake with them, saying:
Et ils se rendirent auprès des fils de Ruben et des fils de Gad et de la demi-Tribu de Manassé au pays de Galaad, et ils leur parlèrent en ces termes:
16 Thus, say all the assembly of Yahweh—What is this act of treachery which ye have committed against the God of Israel, that ye should turn back, to-day, from following Yahweh, —in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might rebel, to-day, against Yahweh?
Ainsi dit toute l'Assemblée de l'Éternel: Qu'est-ce que ce crime dont vous vous rendez coupables envers le Dieu d'Israël, pour vous détourner aujourd'hui de l'Éternel en vous bâtissant un autel pour vous rebeller aujourd'hui contre l'Éternel?
17 Too little for us, was the iniquity of Peor, from which we have not cleansed ourselves, unto this day, —although the plague came upon the assembly of Yahweh;
Est-ce trop peu pour nous que la faute de Pehor dont nous ne sommes pas purifiés jusqu'à ce jour et qui a attiré la plaie sur l'Assemblée de l'Éternel?
18 but that, ye, must turn back to-day from following Yahweh, —though it must needs be that, if, ye, rebel to-day against Yahweh, then, to-morrow, with all the assembly of Israel, will he be wroth?
Et vous, vous vous détournez aujourd'hui de l'Éternel! mais si vous vous rebellez aujourd'hui contre l'Éternel, demain Il se courroucera contre toute l'Assemblée d'Israël.
19 Howbeit, if, unclean, be the land of your possession, do ye on your part come over into the land of the possession of Yahweh, where abideth the habitation of Yahweh, and take your possession in our midst, —but, against Yahweh, do not rebel, nor, against us, rebel, by building yourselves an altar apart from the altar of Yahweh our God.
Cependant si le pays qui est votre lot, est impur, passez dans le pays qui est la propriété de l'Éternel où est fixée la Résidence de l'Éternel et prenez possession au milieu de nous; mais ne vous rebellez pas contre l'Éternel, et ne faites pas défection d'avec nous en vous bâtissant un autel en dehors de l'Autel de l'Éternel, notre Dieu.
20 Did not, Achan son of Zerah, commit an act of treachery, with a devoted thing, and, upon all the assembly of Israel, came wrath, —so that not, he—one man alone, died in his iniquity.
Hacan, fils de Zérah, ne s'est-il pas rendu coupable de crime en touchant aux choses dévouées? et une vengeance fondit sur toute l'Assemblée d'Israël; et il n'a pas été le seul à périr en suite de sa faute.
21 Then responded the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh, —and spake unto the heads of the thousands of Israel:
Alors les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad et la demi-Tribu de Manassé répondirent et dirent aux Chefs des divisions d'Israël:
22 El-Elohim-Yahweh, El-Elohim-Yahweh, he knoweth, and, Israel, he, shall know, —if in rebellion, or if in treachery, against Yahweh, do not save us this day:
Dieu, Dieu, l'Éternel, Dieu, Dieu, l'Éternel sait, et Israël doit savoir si c'est par une rébellion, par un crime contre l'Éternel (ne nous donne pas Ton aide en ce jour!)
23 that we should build for ourselves an altar, to turn back from following Yahweh, —or, if that we might cause to go up thereon ascending-sacrifice or meal-offering, or if that we might offer thereon peace-offerings, let Yahweh himself require it;
que nous nous sommes bâti un autel, pour nous détourner de l'Éternel; et si c'est pour y offrir des holocaustes et des offrandes, et si c'est pour y faire des sacrifices pacifiques, que l'Éternel nous recherche!
24 if, indeed, we have not, rather, out of anxiety and of purpose, done this thing, saying, —. In time to come, your sons might speak to our sons, saying, What have ye to do with Yahweh, God of Israel;
et si ce n'est pas par un souci, par une raison que nous l'avons fait en disant: A l'avenir vos fils diront à nos fils: « Qu'avez-vous de commun avec l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël?
25 seeing that, a boundary, hath Yahweh put between us and you, ye sons of Reuben and ye sons of Gad—even the Jordan, ye have no portion in Yahweh, —so might your sons cause our sons, to cease from revering Yahweh.
Aussi bien l'Éternel a mis entre nous et vous, fils de Ruben et fils de Gad, pour limite le Jourdain: vous n'avez point part à l'Éternel. » Et ainsi vos fils empêcheront nos fils de craindre l'Éternel.
26 We said, therefore, Let us prepare, we pray you, to build us an altar, —not for ascending-offering, nor for sacrifice;
C'est pourquoi nous avons dit: Mettons-nous donc à bâtir un autel, non point pour holocaustes et victimes,
27 but that, a witness, it may be between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we are to do the service of Yahweh, before him, with our ascending-offerings and with our sacrifices, and with our peace-offerings, —that your sons may not say, in time to come, to our sons, Ye have no portion in Yahweh.
mais afin qu'il soit un témoin entre nous et vos fils, et nos descendants après nous, que nous pratiquons le culte de l'Éternel devant Lui avec nos holocaustes et nos victimes et nos sacrifices pacifiques, pour que dans l'avenir vos fils ne disent pas à nos fils: « Vous n'avez point part à l'Éternel! »
28 Therefore said we, And it shall be, when they [so] say to us, or to our generations, in time to come, —that we will say—Behold ye the pattern of the altar of Yahweh, which our fathers made, not for ascending-offerings nor for sacrifice, but that, a witness, it might be between us and you.
Et nous dîmes: Dans le cas où ils tiendraient ce langage à nous ou à nos descendants dans l'avenir, nous répondrons: Voyez la structure de l'autel de l'Éternel qu'ont fait nos pères, non point pour y offrir des holocaustes et des victimes, mais il est un témoin entre nous et vous.
29 Far be it from us—that we should rebel against Yahweh, or turn back, to-day, from following Yahweh, by building an altar, for ascending-offering, or meal-offering or for sacrifice, —other than the altar of Yahweh our God, which is before his habitation.
Loin de nous la pensée de nous rebeller contre l'Éternel, et de nous détourner aujourd'hui de l'Éternel en bâtissant un autel pour holocaustes, offrandes et victimes, en dehors de l'Autel de l'Éternel, notre Dieu, qui est devant sa Résidence!
30 And, when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the assembly, even the heads of the thousands of Israel who were with him, heard the words which the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the sons of Manasseh spake, then was it well-pleasing in their eyes.
Et lorsque le Prêtre Phinées et les Princes de l'Assemblée et les Chefs des divisions d'Israël qui l'accompagnaient, eurent entendu les paroles que prononcèrent les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad et les fils de Manassé, ils furent satisfaits.
31 And Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest said unto the sons of Reuben and unto the sons of Gad and unto the sons of Manasseh—To-day, we know that, in our midst, is Yahweh, in that ye have not committed, against Yahweh, this act of treachery, —now, have ye rescued the sons of Israel out of the hand of Yahweh.
Et Phinées, fils du Prêtre Eléazar, dit aux fils de Ruben et aux fils de Gad et aux fils de Manassé: Aujourd'hui nous reconnaissons que l'Éternel est au milieu de nous, puisque vous ne vous êtes pas rendus coupables envers l'Éternel d'un tel crime. Maintenant vous avez sauvé les enfants d'Israël de la main de l'Éternel.
32 So Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest and the princes returned from the sons of Reuben and from the sons of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, unto the sons of Israel, —and brought them back word.
Alors Phinées, fils du Prêtre Eléazar, et les Princes quittant les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad, revinrent du pays de Galaad dans le pays de Canaan auprès des enfants d'Israël, et ils leur rendirent compte.
33 And the thing was well-pleasing in the eyes of the sons of Israel, and the sons of Israel blessed God, —and spake not of going up against them, to war, to lay waste the land, wherein the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad dwelt.
Et les enfants d'Israël furent satisfaits, et les enfants d'Israël bénirent Dieu et ils ne parlèrent plus de marcher contre eux pour ravager le pays qu'habitaient les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad.
34 So the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad named the altar [a Witness]: A witness, it is between us, That, Yahweh, is God.
Et les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad donnèrent à l'autel ce nom: « Car il est témoin entre nous que l'Éternel est Dieu. »
