2 Chronicles 10
1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem, —for, to Shechem, had all Israel come, to make him king.

2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam son of Nebat, who was in Egypt-whither he had fled from the face of Solomon the king—heard of it, then returned Jeroboam out of Egypt.
Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, ayant appris ce qui se passait, — il était encore en Egypte, où il s'était enfui loin du roi Salomon, — revint d'Egypte,
3 And they sent, and called him, so Jeroboam and all Israel came, —and spake unto Rehoboam, saying:
et on l'envoya chercher. Alors Jéroboam et tout Israël vinrent et parlèrent à Roboam en ces termes:
4 Thy father, made our yoke oppressive, —now, therefore, lighten thou somewhat the oppressive servitude of thy father and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
" Ton père a rendu notre joug dur; maintenant, allège la dure servitude que nous a imposée ton père et le joug pesant qu'il a mis sur nous; et nous te servirons. "
5 And he said unto them, Yet three days, and then return unto me, —and the people departed.
Il leur dit: " Revenez vers moi dans trois jours. " Et le peuple s'en alla.
6 Then King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men who had been standing before Solomon his father, while he yet lived, saying, —How do, ye, counsel to return answer unto this people?
Le roi Roboam consulta les vieillards qui s'étaient tenus auprès de Salomon, son père, pendant sa vie, en disant: " Que me conseillez-vous de répondre à ce peuple? "
7 And they spake unto him saying, If thou wilt be kind to this people, and please them, and speak unto them kind words, then will they be thy servants, all the days.
Ils lui parlèrent en disant: " Si tu es bon envers ce peuple, si tu les reçois avec faveur et si tu leur adresses des paroles bienveillantes, ils seront pour toujours tes serviteurs. "
8 But he declined the counsel of the old men, which they gave him, —and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who were standing before him.
Mais Roboam laissa le conseil que lui donnaient les vieillards, et il consulta les jeunes gens qui avaient grandi avec lui et qui se tenaient devant lui.
9 And he said unto them, What do, ye, counsel that we should return as answer, unto this people, —who have spoken unto me saying, Lighten thou somewhat the yoke, which thy father put upon us?
Il leur dit: " Que me conseillez-vous de répondre à ce peuple qui me tient ce langage: Allège le joug que nous a imposé ton père? "
10 Then spake with him the young men who had grown up with him, saying, Thus, shalt thou speak unto the people who have spoken unto thee saying, Thy father, made our yoke heavy, Thou, therefore, lighten somewhat our yoke, —Thus, shalt thou say unto them, My little finger, is thicker than my father’s loins;
Les jeunes gens qui avaient grandi avec lui lui répondirent en disant: " Tu parleras ainsi à ce peuple qui t'a tenu ce langage: Ton père a rendu notre joug pesant; toi, allège-le-nous! Tu leur parleras ainsi: Mon petit doigt est plus gros que les reins de mon père.
11 Now, therefore, my father, laid upon you a heavy yoke, but, I, will add to your yoke, —My father, chastised you with whips, but, I, with scorpions,
Eh bien! mon père vous a chargés d'un joug pesant, et moi je rendrai votre joug plus pesant encore; mon père vous a châtiés avec des fouets, et moi je vous châtierai avec des scorpions. "
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came unto Rehoboam, on the third day, —as the king spake, saying, Return unto me on the third day.
Jéroboam et tout le peuple vinrent auprès de Roboam le troisième jour, selon que le roi avait dit: " Revenez vers moi dans trois jours. "
13 And the king answered them harshly, —and King Rehoboam declined the counsel of the old men;
Le roi leur répondit durement. Laissant le conseil des vieillards,
14 and spake unto them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father, made your yoke heavy, but, I, will add thereunto, —My father, chastised you with whips, But, I, with scorpions.
le roi Roboam leur parla selon le conseil des jeunes gens, en ces termes: " Mon père a rendu votre joug pesant, et moi je vous le rendrai plus pesant encore; mon père vous a châtiés avec des fouets, et moi je vous châtierai avec des scorpions. "
15 So the king hearkened not unto the people, —for there had come to be a turn from God, to the end Yahweh might establish his word which he had spoken by means of Ahijah the Shilonite, unto Jeroboam, son of Nebat.
Le roi n'écouta donc pas le peuple, car tel était le procédé de Dieu pour accomplir la parole que Yahweh avait dite par Ahias de Silo à Jéroboam, fils de Nabat.
16 And, when, all Israel, [saw] that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying—What portion have, we, in David, or inheritance in the son of Jesse? Every man, to your homes, O Israel! Now, see to thine own house, O David! And all Israel departed to their homes.
Lorsque tout Israël vit que le roi ne l'écoutait pas, le peuple répondit au roi en ces termes: " Quelle part avons-nous avec David? Nous n'avons point d'héritage avec le fils d'Isaï. Chacun à ses tentes, Israël. Quant à toi, pourvois à ta maison, David! " Et tout Israël s'en alla dans ses tentes.
17 But, as for the sons of Israel who were dwelling in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
Ce fut seulement sur les enfants d'Israël qui habitaient les villes de Juda que régna Roboam.
18 Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the tribute, and the sons of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. So, King Rehoboam, hasted to mount his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
Alors le roi Roboam envoya Aduram, qui était préposé aux impôts; mais Aduram fut lapidé par tout Israël, et il mourut. Et le roi Roboam se hâta de monter sur un char pour s'enfuir à Jérusalem.
19 Thus Israel rebelled against the house of David—unto this day.
C'est ainsi qu'Israël se détacha de la maison de David jusqu'à ce jour.
