1 Chronicles 18
1 And it canto to pass, after this, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, —and took Gath and her villages, out of the hand of the Philistines.

2 And he smote Moab, —and the Moabites became servants to David, bearers of a present.
Han slo også moabittene, og moabittene blev Davids tjenere og måtte svare ham skatt.
3 And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah, towards Hamath, —as he went to establish his hold of the river Euphrates.
Likeledes slo David kongen i Soba Hadareser ved Hamat, da han drog avsted for å styrke sitt herredømme ved Frat-elven.
4 And David captured from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen, —and David destroyed all the chariots, saving that he reserved from them a hundred chariots.
Og David tok fra ham tusen vognhester og syv tusen hestfolk og tyve tusen mann fotfolk; og David lot skjære fotsenene over på alle vognhestene; bare hundre vognhester sparte han.
5 And, when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David smote of the Syrians, twenty-two thousand men.
Syrerne fra Damaskus kom for å hjelpe Hadareser, kongen i Soba; men David slo to og tyve tusen mann av dem.
6 And David put [garrisons] in Syria of Damascus, and so it was that the Syrians became, David’s, servants, bearers of a present, —so Yahweh gave victory to David, whithersoever he went.
Og David la krigsmannskap i det damaskenske Syria, og syrerne blev Davids tjenere og måtte svare ham skatt. Således hjalp Herren David overalt hvor han drog frem.
7 And David took the shields of gold, that were upon the servants of Hadarezer, —and brought them to Jerusalem;
David tok de gullskjold som Hadaresers tjenere hadde båret, og førte dem til Jerusalem.
8 also, from Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadarezer, David took very much bronze, —therewith, did Solomon make the sea of bronze, and the pillars, and the vessels of bronze.
Og fra Hadaresers byer Tibhat og Kun tok David en stor mengde kobber; av det gjorde Salomo kobberhavet og søilene og kobberkarene.
9 And, when Tou, king of Hamath, heard that David had smitten all the force of Hadarezer king of Zobah,
Da kongen i Hamat To'u hørte at David hadde slått hele Soba-kongen Hadaresers hær,
10 he sent Hadoram his son unto King David, to ask after his welfare, and to bless him, because he had made war against Hadarezer and had smitten him, for, a man making wars against Tou, had been Hadarezer, —and [he had with him] all manner of vessels of gold and silver and bronze;
sendte han sin sønn Hadoram til kong David for å hilse på ham og ønske ham til lykke, fordi han hadde stridt mot Hadareser og slått ham; for Hadareser hadde jevnlig ført krig mot To'u. Han sendte også alle slags gullkar og sølvkar og kobberkar.
11 them also, did King David hallow unto Yahweh, with the silver and the gold, that he bare away from all the nations, —from Edom, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
Også dem helliget kong David til Herren sammen med det sølv og gull han hadde tatt fra alle hedningefolkene: fra Edom og fra Moab og fra Ammons barn og fra filistrene og fra amalekittene.
12 Moreover, Abishai, son of Zeruiah, smote Edom, in the Valley of Salt, —eighteen thousand;
Det var Absai, Serujas sønn, som slo edomittene i Saltdalen, atten tusen mann.
13 and set, in Edom, garrisons, and all Edom became servants unto David, —and Yahweh gave David the victory, whithersoever he went.
Så la han krigsmannskap i Edom, og alle edomittene blev Davids tjenere. Således hjalp Herren David overalt hvor han drog frem.
14 So David reigned over all Israel, —and he was executing justice and righteousness for all his people;
Så regjerte nu David over hele Israel, og han gjorde rett og rettferdighet mot hele sitt folk.
15 and, Joab, son of Zeruiah, was over the army, —and, Jehoshaphat, son of Elihud, was recorder;
Joab, Serujas sønn, var høvding over hæren, og Josafat, Akiluds sønn, historieskriver;
16 and, Zadok, son of Ahitub, and Abimelech son of Abiathar, were priests, —and, Shavsha, was scribe;
Sadok, Akitubs sønn, og Abimelek, Ebjatars sønn, var prester og Savsa statsskriver;
17 and, Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, was over the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, —and, the sons of David, were first, in attendance on the king.
Benaja, Jojadas sønn, var høvding over livvakten, og Davids sønner var de første ved kongens side.
