Proverbs 20
1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler; and whosoever erreth thereby is not wise.
| شراب استهزا می‌کند و مسکرات عربده می‌آورد، و هر‌که به آن فریفته شود حکیم نیست. | ۱ |
2 The terror of a king is as the roaring of a lion: he that provoketh him to anger sinneth [against] his own life.
| هیبت پادشاه مثل غرش شیر است، و هر‌که خشم او را به هیجان آورد، به‌جان خود خطامی ورزد. | ۲ |
3 It is an honour for a man to keep aloof from strife: but every fool will be quarrelling.
| از نزاع دور شدن برای انسان عزت است، اماهر مرد احمق مجادله می‌کند. | ۳ |
4 The slothful will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
| مرد کاهل به‌سبب زمستان شیار نمی کند، لهذا در موسم حصاد گدایی می‌کند و نمی یابد. | ۴ |
5 Counsel in the heart of man is [like] deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
| مشورت در دل انسان آب عمیق است، امامرد فهیم آن را می‌کشد. | ۵ |
6 Most men wilt proclaim every one his own kindness: but a faithful man who can find?
| بسا کسانند که هر یک احسان خویش رااعلام می‌کنند، اما مرد امین را کیست که پیدا کند. | ۶ |
7 A just man that walketh in his integrity, blessed are his children after him.
| مرد عادل که به کاملیت خود سلوک نماید، پسرانش بعد از او خجسته خواهند شد. | ۷ |
8 A king that sitteth on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
| پادشاهی که بر کرسی داوری نشیند، تمامی بدی را از چشمان خود پراکنده می‌سازد. | ۸ |
9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
| کیست که تواند گوید: «دل خود را طاهرساختم، و از گناه خویش پاک شدم.» | ۹ |
10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
| سنگهای مختلف و پیمانه های مختلف، هر دوی آنها نزد خداوند مکروه است. | ۱۰ |
11 Even a child maketh himself known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
| طفل نیز از افعالش شناخته می‌شود، که آیااعمالش پاک و راست است یا نه. | ۱۱ |
12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.
| گوش شنوا و چشم بینا، خداوند هر دو آنهارا آفریده است. | ۱۲ |
13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, [and] thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
| خواب را دوست مدار مبادا فقیر شوی. چشمان خود را باز کن تا از نان سیر گردی. | ۱۳ |
14 It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
| مشتری می‌گوید بد است، بد است، اماچون رفت آنگاه فخر می‌کند. | ۱۴ |
15 There is gold, and abundance of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
| طلا هست و لعلها بسیار، اما لبهای معرفت جواهر گرانبها است. | ۱۵ |
16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; and hold him in pledge [that is surety] for strangers.
| جامه آنکس را بگیر که به جهت غریب ضامن است، و او را به رهن بگیر که ضامن بیگانگان است. | ۱۶ |
17 Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
| نان فریب برای انسان لذیذ است، اما بعد دهانش از سنگ ریزه‌ها پر خواهد شد. | ۱۷ |
18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and by wise guidance make thou war,
| فکرها به مشورت محکم می‌شود، و باحسن تدبیر جنگ نما. | ۱۸ |
19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that openeth wide his lips.
| کسی‌که به نمامی گردش کند اسرار را فاش می‌نماید، لهذا با کسی‌که لبهای خود را می‌گشایدمعاشرت منما. | ۱۹ |
20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in the blackest darkness.
| هر‌که پدر و مادر خود را لعنت کندچراغش در ظلمت غلیظ خاموش خواهد شد. | ۲۰ |
21 An inheritance [may be] gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.
| اموالی که اولا به تعجیل حاصل می‌شود، عاقبتش مبارک نخواهد شد. | ۲۱ |
22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil: wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.
| مگو که از بدی انتقام خواهم کشید، بلکه برخداوند توکل نما و تو را نجات خواهد داد. | ۲۲ |
23 Divers weights are an abomination to the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
| سنگهای مختلف نزد خداوند مکروه است، و ترازوهای متقلب نیکو نیست. | ۲۳ |
24 A man’s goings are of the LORD; how then can man understand his way?
| قدمهای انسان از خداوند است، پس مردراه خود را چگونه بفهمد؟ | ۲۴ |
25 It is a snare to a man rashly to say, [It is] holy, and after vows to make inquiry.
| شخصی که چیزی را به تعجیل مقدس می‌گوید، و بعد از نذر کردن استفسار می‌کند، دردام می‌افتد. | ۲۵ |
26 A wise king winnoweth the wicked, and bringeth the [threshing] wheel over them.
| پادشاه حکیم شریران را پراکنده می‌سازد وچوم را بر ایشان می‌گرداند. | ۲۶ |
27 The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD, searching all the innermost parts of the belly.
| روح انسان، چراغ خداوند است که تمامی عمقهای دل را تفتیش می‌نماید. | ۲۷ |
28 Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.
| رحمت و راستی پادشاه را محافظت می‌کند، و کرسی او به رحمت پایدار خواهد ماند. | ۲۸ |
29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the hoary head.
| جلال جوانان قوت ایشان است، و عزت پیران موی سفید. | ۲۹ |
30 Stripes that wound cleanse away evil: and strokes [reach] the innermost parts of the belly.
| ضربهای سخت از بدی طاهر می‌کند وتازیانه‌ها به عمق دل فرو می‌رود. | ۳۰ |
