Esther 3

1 After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.

Después de estas cosas, el rey Asuero engrandeció a Amán hijo de Hamedata agageo, y lo ensalzó, y puso su silla sobre todos los príncipes que estaban con él.

2 And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed down, and did reverence to Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not down, nor did him reverence.

Y todos los siervos del rey que estaban a la puerta del rey, se arrodillaban e inclinaban a Amán, porque así lo había mandado el rey; pero Mardoqueo, ni se arrodillaba ni se humillaba.

3 Then the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king’s commandment?

Y los siervos del rey que estaban a la puerta, dijeron a Mardoqueo: ¿Por qué traspasas el mandamiento del rey?

4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.

Y aconteció que, hablándole cada día de esta manera, y no escuchándolos él, lo denunciaron a Amán, por ver si las palabras de Mardoqueo se mantendrían firmes; porque ya él les había declarado que era judío.

5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not down, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.

Y vio Amán que Mardoqueo ni se arrodillaba ni se humillaba delante de él; y se llenó de ira.

6 But he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

Mas tuvo en poco meter mano en solo Mardoqueo; que ya le había declarado el pueblo de Mardoqueo; y procuró Amán destruir a todos los judíos que había en el reino de Asuero; al pueblo de Mardoqueo.

7 In the first month, which is the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, [to] the twelfth [month], which is the month Adar.

En el mes primero, que es el mes de Nisán, en el año duodécimo del rey Asuero, fue echada Pur, esto es, la suerte, delante de Amán, de día en día y de mes en mes; y salió el mes duodécimo, que es el mes de Adar.

8 And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from [those of] every people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is not for the king’s profit to suffer them.

Y dijo Amán al rey Asuero: Hay un pueblo esparcido y dividido entre los pueblos en todas las provincias de tu reino, y sus leyes son diferentes de las de todo pueblo, y no observan las leyes del rey; y al rey no viene provecho de dejarlos.

9 If it please the king, let it be written that they be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those that have the charge of the [king’s] business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.

Si place al rey, escríbase que sean destruidos; y yo pesaré diez mil talentos de plata en manos de los que manejan la hacienda, para que sean traídos a los tesoros del rey.

10 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.

Entonces el rey quitó su anillo de su mano, y lo dio a Amán hijo de Hamedata agageo, enemigo de los judíos,

11 And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.

y le dijo: La plata propuesta sea para ti, y asimismo el pueblo, para que hagas de él lo que bien te pareciere.

12 Then were the king’s scribes called in the first month, on the thirteenth day thereof, and there was written according to all that Haman commanded unto the king’s satraps, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the princes of every people; to every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and it was sealed with the king’s ring.

Entonces fueron llamados los escribanos del rey en el mes primero, a trece del mismo, y fue escrito conforme a todo lo que mandó Amán, a los príncipes del rey, y a los capitanes que estaban sobre cada provincia, y a los príncipes de cada pueblo, a cada provincia según su escritura, y a cada pueblo según su lengua; en nombre del rey Asuero fue escrito, y signado con el anillo del rey.

13 And letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth [day] of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

Y fueron enviadas cartas por mano de los correos a todas las provincias del rey, para destruir, y matar, y echar a perder a todos los judíos, desde el niño hasta el viejo, niños y mujeres en un día, en el trece del mes duodécimo, que es el mes de Adar, y para apoderarse de su despojo.

14 A copy of the writing, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published unto all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day.

La copia del escrito que se diese por ley en cada provincia, que fuese manifiesto a todos los pueblos, a fin de que estuviesen apercibidos para aquel día.

15 The posts went forth in haste by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given out in Shushan the palace: and the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.

Y salieron los correos de prisa por mandato del rey, y la ley fue dada en Susa capital del reino. Y el rey y Amán estaban sentados a beber, y la ciudad de Susa estaba alborotada.
