< Psalms 7 >

1 A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord about Cush, the Benjamite. Lord my God, I take refuge in you. Deliver me, save me from all who pursue me;
[A meditation by David, which he sang to Jehovah, concerning the words of Cush, the Benjamite.] Jehovah, my God, I take refuge in you. Save me from all those who pursue me, and deliver me,
2 or like lions they will tear me to pieces, and rend me, past hope of rescue.
lest they tear apart my soul like a lion, ripping it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
3 Lord, my God, if my life has been such if my hands have been stained with guilt,
Jehovah, my God, if I have done this, if there is iniquity in my hands,
4 if friends I paid back with evil, if I plundered my foes without cause,
if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me, or oppressed my enemy without cause,
5 may the enemy chase and find me, trample my life to the ground, my honor leave in the dirt! (Selah)
let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it; yes, let him tread my life down to the earth, and lay my glory in the dust. (Selah)
6 Arise, Lord, in anger, against my foes rise in fury. Awake for my help: let justice be done.
Arise, Jehovah, in your anger. Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries. Awake, my God; you have appointed judgment.
7 Gather the nations about you, and sit on your lofty throne,
And let the congregation of the peoples surround you, and rule over them on high.
8 as the Lord, the judge of the peoples. Judge me, Lord, in my innocence and according to my integrity.
Jehovah administers judgment to the peoples. Judge me, Jehovah, according to my righteousness, and to my integrity that is in me.
9 Put an end to the wrong of the wicked, protect the righteous. Searcher of hearts and minds, righteous God.
Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. The righteous God tests hearts and minds.
10 God is my shield: he saves the upright in heart.
My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a just judge, constant in righteous anger.
God is a righteous judge, yes, a God who has indignation every day.
12 He will sharpen his sword without fail, his bow is bent and ready,
If a man doesn't relent, he will sharpen his sword; he has bent and strung his bow.
13 his deadly weapons are ready, his arrows he makes of flame.
He has also prepared for himself deadly weapons. He makes ready his flaming arrows.
14 The enemy who conceives evil; pregnant with mischief, giving birth to lies,
Look, he travails with iniquity. Yes, he has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
15 a pit they have made and dug; but into the hole that they made they will fall.
He has dug a hole, and has fallen into the pit which he made.
16 On their own heads their mischief comes back; on their own skulls their violence comes down.
The trouble he causes shall return to his own head, and his violence shall come down on the crown of his own head.
17 I will give thanks to the Lord for his justice, and sing to the name of the Lord Most High.
I will give thanks to Jehovah according to his righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of Jehovah Most High.
