Psalms 37
1 Of David. Be not kindled to wrath at the wicked, nor envious of those who work wrong;
De David. ALEPH. Ne t'irrite pas au sujet des méchants, ne porte pas envie à ceux qui font le mal.
2 for, like grass, they will speedily wither, and fade like the green of young grass.
Car, comme l'herbe, ils seront vite coupés; comme la verdure du gazon, ils se dessécheront. BETH.
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; remain in the land, and deal faithfully:
Mets ta confiance en Yahweh, et fais le bien; habite le pays, et jouis de sa fidélité.
4 then the Lord will be your delight, he will grant you your heart’s petitions.
Fais de Yahweh tes délices, et il te donnera ce que ton cœur désire. GHIMEL.
5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act,
Remets ton sort à Yahweh et confie-toi en lui: il agira:
6 making clear as the light your right, and your just cause clear as the noon-day.
il fera resplendir ta justice comme la lumière, et ton droit comme le soleil à son midi. DALETH.
7 In silence and patience wait on the Lord. Be not kindled to anger at those who prosper. At those who execute evil devices.
Tiens-toi en silence devant Yahweh, et espère en lui; ne t'irrite pas au sujet de celui qui prospère dans ses voies; de l'homme qui réussit en ses intrigues. HÉ.
8 Desist from anger, abandon wrath: be not kindled to anger it leads but to evil:
Laisse la colère, abandonne la fureur; ne t'irrite pas, pour n'aboutir qu'au mal.
9 for evildoers will be cut off, but the land will be theirs, who wait on the Lord.
Car les méchants seront retranchés, mais ceux qui espèrent en Yahweh posséderont le pays. VAV.
10 Yet but a little, and the wicked vanish: look at their place: they are there no more.
Encore un peu de temps, et le méchant n'est plus; tu regardes sa place, et il a disparu.
11 But the humble will have the land, and the rapture of peace in abundance.
Mais les doux posséderont la terre, ils goûteront les délices d'une paix profonde. ZAÏN.
12 The wicked plots against the righteous, snarls like a wild animal;
Le méchant forme des projets contre le juste, il grince les dents contre lui.
13 the Lord laughs, for he sees that his day is coming.
Le Seigneur se rit du méchant, car il voit que son jour arrive. HETH.
14 The wicked have drawn the sword, and bent the bow, to fell the poor, to slay those who walk uprightly;
Les méchants tirent le glaive, ils bandent leur arc; pour abattre le malheureux et le pauvre, pour égorger ceux dont la voie est droite.
15 but their sword will pierce their own heart, and their bows will be broken in pieces.
Leur glaive entrera dans leur propre cœur, et leurs arcs se briseront. TETH.
16 Better is the righteous person’s little than the wealth of many wicked.
Mieux vaut le peu du juste, que l'abondance de nombreux méchants;
17 For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.
car les bras des méchants seront brisés, et Yahweh soutient les justes. YOD.
18 The Lord watches over the days of the blameless, their heritage will continue forever.
Yahweh connaît les jours des hommes intègres, et leur héritage dure à jamais.
19 They will not be shamed in the evil time, in the days of famine they will be satisfied.
Ils ne sont pas confondus au jour du malheur, et ils sont rassasiés aux jours de la famine. CAPH.
20 Because the wicked will perish: but the foes of the Lord, like a brand in the oven, will vanish, like smoke they will vanish.
Car les méchants périssent; les ennemis de Yahweh sont comme la gloire des prairies; ils s'évanouissent en fumée, ils s'évanouissent. LAMED.
21 The wicked must borrow and cannot pay back, but the righteous is lavish and gives.
Le méchant emprunte, et il ne rend pas; Le juste est compatissant, et il donne.
22 For those blest by the Lord inherit the land, while those whom he curses will be cut off.
Car ceux que bénit Yahweh possèdent le pays, et ceux qu'il maudit sont retranchés. MEM.
23 The Lord supports the steps of those with whom he is pleased.
Yahweh affermit les pas de l'homme juste, et il prend plaisir à sa voie.
24 Though they fall, they will not be cast headlong, for the Lord holds their hands.
S'il tombe, il n'est pas étendu par terre, car Yahweh soutient sa main. NUN.
25 Never, from youth to age, have I seen the righteous forsaken, or their children begging bread.
J'ai été jeune, me voilà vieux, et je n'ai point vu le juste abandonné; ni sa postérité mendiant son pain.
26 They are ever lavishly lending, and their children are fountains of blessing.
Toujours il est compatissant, et il prête, et sa postérité est en bénédiction. SAMECH.
27 Turn away from evil and do good and you will live in the land forever.
Détourne-toi du mal et fais le bien; et habite à jamais ta demeure.
28 For the Lord loves justice, he does not forsake his friends. The unrighteous will be destroyed forever, and the seed of the wicked will be cut off.
Car Yahweh aime la justice, et il n'abandonne pas ses fidèles. Ils sont toujours sous sa garde, mais la postérité des méchants sera retranchée.
29 But the land will belong to the righteous, they will live upon it forever,
Les justes posséderont le pays, et ils y habiteront à jamais. PHÉ.
30 The mouth of the righteous murmurs wisdom, and words of justice are on their tongues.
La bouche du juste annonce la sagesse, et sa langue proclame la justice.
31 The law of their God is in their heart, their steps are never unsteady.
La loi de son Dieu est dans son cœur; ses pas ne chancellent point. TSADÉ.
32 The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to put them to death.
Le méchant épie le juste, et il cherche à le faire mourir.
33 But the Lord leaves them not in their hand: at their trial they will not be held guilty.
Yahweh ne l'abandonne pas entre ses mains, et il ne le condamne pas quand vient son jugement. QOPH.
34 Wait on the Lord, and observe his way: he will lift you to honour the land will be yours, you will feast your eyes on the doom of the wicked.
Attends Yahweh et garde sa voie, et il t'élèvera et tu posséderas le pays; quand les méchants seront retranchés, tu le verras. RESCH.
35 I have seen the wicked exultant, lifting themselves like a cedar of Lebanon.
J'ai vu l'impie au comble de la puissance; il s'étendait comme un arbre verdoyant.
36 But the moment I passed, they vanished! I sought for them, but they could not be found.
J'ai passé, et voici qu'il n'était plus; je l'ai cherché, et on ne l'a plus trouvé. SCHIN.
37 Preserve your honour and practise uprightness, for such a person fares well in the end.
Observe celui qui est intègre, et regarde celui qui est droit; car il y a une postérité pour l'homme de paix.
38 But transgressors will perish together. Cut off are the wicked forever.
Mais les rebelles seront tous anéantis, la postérité des méchants sera retranchée. THAV.
39 The righteous are saved by the Lord, who in time of distress is their refuge:
De Yahweh vient le salut des justes; il est leur protecteur au temps de la détresse.
40 the Lord helps and rescue them, from the wicked he rescues and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
Yahweh leur vient en aide et les délivre; il les délivre des méchants et les sauve, parce qu'ils ont mis en lui leur confiance.
