Psalms 29

1 A psalm of David. Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and power

Ein Psalm Davids. Gebt Jahwe, ihr Göttersöhne, gebt Jahwe den Ruhm der Herrlichkeit und Stärke!

2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory he manifests: bow to the Lord in holy array.

Gebt Jahwe die Herrlichkeit seines Namens, werft euch vor Jahwe nieder in heiligem Schmuck!

3 The Lord’s voice peals on the waters. The God of glory has thundered. He peals o’er the mighty waters.

Der Donner Jahwes erschallt über den Wassern; der Gott der Herrlichkeit donnert, Jahwe über großen Wassern.

4 The Lord’s voice sounds with strength, the Lord’s voice sounds with majesty.

Der Donner Jahwes erschallt mit Macht, der Donner Jahwes mit Majestät.

5 The Lord’s voice breaks the cedars, he breaks the cedars of Lebanon,

Der Donner Jahwes zerschmettert Cedern, es zerschmettert Jahwe die Cedern des Libanon.

6 making Lebanon dance like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox.

Er macht sie hüpfen wie ein Kalb, den Libanon und Sirjon wie einen jungen Wildochsen.

7 The Lord’s voice hews out flames of fire.

Der Donner Jahwes spaltet Feuerflammen.

8 The Lord’s voice rends the desert, he rends the desert of Kadesh.

Der Donner Jahwes macht die Wüste erzittern, Jahwe macht erzittern die Wüste Kades.

9 The Lord’s voice whirls the oaks, and strips the forests bare; and all in his temple say ‘Glory.’

Der Donner Jahwes macht Hirschkühe kreißen und schält Wälder ab, und in seinem Palaste ruft ein jeder: “Herrlichkeit”!

10 The Lord was king at the flood, the Lord sits throned forever.

Jahwe thront über der Sintflut und so thront Jahwe als König in Ewigkeit.

11 The Lord gives strength to his people, he blesses his people with peace.

Jahwe wird seinem Volke Kraft verleihn, Jahwe wird sein Volk mit Frieden segnen.
