Hosea 6

1 saying, ‘Come let us return to the Lord, for he has torn us but he will heal us, he has injured us but he will bandage our wounds,

"Komt, laat ons teruggaan tot Jahweh!" Want Hij verscheurt, maar Hij zal ons genezen, Hij slaat, maar Hij zal ons verbinden;

2 he will revive in a couple of days, on the third day he will raise us up again, to live in his presence.

Na twee dagen zal Hij ons doen herleven, De derde dag doen verrijzen, opdat wij leven voor zijn aanschijn!

3 Let us know, let us eagerly seek to know the Lord. His coming is as sure as the sunrise. He will come to us like the winter rain, as the spring rain that waters the earth.’

Laat ons Jahweh kennen, Hem ijverig zoeken! Zodra wij Hem zoeken, vinden wij Hem: Dan komt Hij tot ons als een milde regen, Als een lentebui, die de aarde drenkt!

4 What can I make of you, Ephraim! What can I make of you, Judah! Your love is like a morning cloud, like the dew which early goes away.

Efraïm, wat zal Ik u doen, Juda, hoe met u handelen? Uw vroomheid is als een morgenwolk, Vergankelijk als de ochtenddauw!

5 That is why I have hewn them by the prophets, I have slain them by the words of my mouth. My judgment is like the light that goes forth,

Daarom heb Ik er op ingeslagen door de profeten, Ze gedood door de woorden van mijn mond; Is mijn gericht als het licht Te voorschijn getreden.

6 for it is love that I delight in and not sacrifice, and knowledge of God and not burnt offerings.

Want vroomheid wil Ik, geen offers; Kennis van God liever dan offeranden.

7 But they after the manner of men have transgressed the covenant, there they have played me false.

Maar laaghartig hebben zij mijn verbond overtreden, En zijn Mij toen ontrouw geworden.

8 Gilead is a city of evildoers, tracked with bloody footprints,

Gilad is een vesting van schurken, Vol bloedige sporen;

9 and as bandits lie in wait for a man, so a band of priests murder on the way to Shechem. How terrible is the evil they do!

Als een roverbende De priesterschaar! Op de weg naar Sikem wordt gemoord, Worden boze plannen gesmeed;

10 In Bethel I have seen a horrible thing. There Ephraim plays the prostitute, Israel is defiled.

In Betel heb Ik gruwelen aanschouwd: Daar heeft Efraïm ontucht bedreven. Israël heeft zich bezoedeld;

11 Judah for you also a harvest is set. When I would restore the fortunes of my people,

Juda, ook u is een oogst weggelegd: Al zou Ik het lot van mijn volk ten beste keren, En Israël willen genezen!
