Genesis 20
1 Abraham [Father of a multitude] traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar.
E partiu-se Abraão dali para a terra do sul, e habitou entre Kades e Sur; e peregrinou em Gerar.
2 Abraham [Father of a multitude] said about Sarah [Princess] his wife, “She is my sister.” Abimelech [My father king] king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah [Princess].
E havendo Abraão dito de Sarah sua mulher; É minha irmã, enviou Abimelech, rei de Gerar, e tomou a Sarah.
3 But God came to Abimelech [My father king] in a dream of the night, and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken. For she is a man’s wife.”
Deus porém veio a Abimelech em sonhos de noite, e disse-lhe: Eis que morto és por causa da mulher que tomaste; porque ela está casada com marido.
4 Now Abimelech [My father king] had not come near her. He said, “Lord, will you kill even a upright nation?
Mas Abimelech ainda não se tinha chegado a ela; por isso disse: Senhor, matarás também uma nação justa?
5 Didn’t he tell me, ‘She is my sister?’ She, even she herself, said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands have I done this.”
Não me disse ele mesmo: É minha irmã? e ela também disse: É meu irmão. Em sinceridade do coração e em pureza das minhas mãos tenho feito isto.
6 God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I didn’t allow you to touch her.
E disse-lhe Deus em sonhos: Bem sei eu que na sinceridade do teu coração fizeste isto; e também eu te tenho impedido de pecar contra mim; por isso te não permiti toca-la;
7 Now therefore, restore the man’s wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you don’t restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours.”
Agora pois restitui a mulher ao seu marido, porque profeta é, e rogará por ti, para que vivas; porém senão lha restituires, sabe que certamente morrerás, tu e tudo o que é teu.
8 Abimelech [My father king] rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ear. The men were very scared.
E levantou-se Abimelech pela manhã de madrugada, chamou a todos os seus servos, e falou todas estas palavras em seus ouvidos; e temeram muito aqueles varões.
9 Then Abimelech [My father king] called Abraham [Father of a multitude], and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done!”
Então chamou Abimelech a Abraão e disse-lhe: Que nos fizeste? e em que pequei contra ti, para trazeres sobre o meu reino tamanho pecado? Tu me fizeste aquilo que não deverias ter feito.
10 Abimelech [My father king] said to Abraham [Father of a multitude], “What did you see, that you have done this thing?”
Disse mais Abimelech a Abraão: Que tens visto, para fazer tal coisa?
11 Abraham [Father of a multitude] said, “Because I thought, ‘Surely the fear of God is not in this place. They will kill me for my wife’s sake.’
E disse Abraão: Porque eu dizia comigo: Certamente não há temor de Deus neste lugar, e eles me matarão por amor da minha mulher.
12 Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
E, na verdade, é ela também minha irmã, filha de meu pai, mas não filha da minha mãe; e veio a ser minha mulher:
13 When God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to her, ‘This is your cheshed ·loving-kindness· which you shall show to me. Everywhere that we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”
E aconteceu que, fazendo-me Deus sair errante da casa de meu pai, eu lhe disse: Seja esta a graça que me farás em todo o lugar aonde viermos: diz de mim: É meu irmão.
14 Abimelech [My father king] took sheep and cattle, male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham [Father of a multitude], and restored Sarah [Princess], his wife, to him.
Então tomou Abimelech ovelhas e vacas, e servos e servas, e os deu a Abraão; e restituiu-lhe Sarah, sua mulher.
15 Abimelech [My father king] said, “Behold, my land is before you. Dwell where it pleases you.”
E disse Abimelech: Eis que a minha terra está diante da tua face: habita onde bom for aos teus olhos.
16 To Sarah [Princess] he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you. In front of all you are vindicated.”
E a Sarah disse: Vês que tenho dado ao teu irmão mil moedas de prata: eis que ele te seja por véu dos olhos para com todos os que contigo estão, e até para com todos os outros; e estás advertida.
17 Abraham [Father of a multitude] prayed to God. God healed Abimelech [My father king], and his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children.
E orou Abraão a Deus, e sarou Deus a Abimelech, e à sua mulher, e às suas servas, de maneira que pariram;
18 For Adonai had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abimelech [My father king], because of Sarah [Princess], Abraham [Father of a multitude]’s wife.
Porque o Senhor havia fechado totalmente todas as madres da casa de Abimelech, por causa de Sarah, mulher de Abraão.
