2 Samuel 18
1 David numbered the people who were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.
David musterte nun das Volk bei ihm und stellte an seine Spitze Anführer über Tausend und über Hundert.
2 David sent forth the people, a third part under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. The king said to the people, "I will surely go forth with you myself also."
Dann stellte David das eine Drittel des Volkes unter Joabs Befehl, ein Drittel unter den Befehl des Serujasohnes Abisai, des Bruders Joabs, und ein Drittel unter den Gatiter Ittai. Und David sprach zum Volke: "Auch ich rücke mit euch aus."
3 But the people said, "You must not go out, for if we retreat, no one will care about us. If half of us die, no one will care about us. But you are worth ten thousand of us. Therefore it is better now if you support us in the city."
Da sprach das Volk: "Du darfst nicht ausrücken. Denn, fliehen wir, so grämt man sich nicht um uns. Fiele von uns auch die Hälfte, so grämte man sich nicht um uns. Du aber bist soviel wie von uns zehn Tausendschaften. Auch ist es besser, wenn du uns von der Stadt Hilfe bringen kannst."
4 The king said to them, "I will do what seems best to you." The king stood beside the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.
Da sprach der König zu ihnen: "Ich tue, was euch gut dünkt." Dann stellte sich der König neben das Tor, und das ganze Volk rückte aus, nach Hunderten und Tausenden.
5 The king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, "Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom." And all the people were listening when the king commanded all the captains concerning Absalom.
Da gebot der König Joab, Abisai und Ittai: "Seid mir milde mit Absalom, dem jungen Manne!" Alles Volk hörte, was der König allen Heerführern Absaloms halber gebot.
6 So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim.
So zog das Volk gegen Israel ins Feld, und die Schlacht war im Walde von Ephraim.
7 The people of Israel were struck there before the servants of David, and there was a great slaughter there that day of twenty thousand men.
Da ward dort das Volk Israel von Davids Dienern geschlagen, und dort kam es zu einer schweren Niederlage von 20.000 Mann an jenem Tage.
8 For the battle there spread over the entire region, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
Der Kampf aber dehnte sich dort über die ganze Gegend, und der Wald fraß mehr Volk, als das Schwert an jenem Tage gefressen hatte.
9 And Absalom happened to meet the servants of David. And he was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was left hanging between the sky and earth; and the mule that was under him went on.
Absalom aber ward von Davids Dienern angetroffen. Absalom ritt nämlich ein Maultier, und das Maultier kam unter das Geäst einer großen Eiche. Da blieb sein Kopf an der Eiche hängen. Und so schwebte er zwischen Himmel und Erde. Das Maultier aber ging unter ihm durch.
10 And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, "Look, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak."
Das sah ein Mann und meldete es Joab und sprach: "Ich habe Absalom an einer Eiche hängen sehen."
11 Joab said to the man who told him, "Look, you saw it, and why did you not strike him there to the ground? I would have given you ten pieces of silver, and a belt."
Da sprach Joab zu dem Mann, der ihm dies meldete: "Du hast es gesehen? Warum hast du ihn dort nicht niedergeschlagen? An mir wäre es dann, dir zehn Silberlinge und einen Gurt zu geben."
12 The man said to Joab, "Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I still wouldn't put forth my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, 'Protect the young man Absalom for my sake.'
Da sprach der Mann zu Joab: "Und wenn ich ein volles Tausend Silberlinge auf der Hand hätte, so werde ich doch nicht den Königssohn antasten. Denn der König befahl dir, Abisai und Ittai, vor unseren Ohren also: 'Habt mir acht auf den jungen Mann Absalom!'
13 Otherwise if I had dealt falsely against his life (and there is no matter hidden from the king), then you yourself would have set yourself against me."
Oder sollte ich mit Gefahr meines Lebens Ungehorsam üben - dem König bleibt ja nichts verborgen -, du selbst trätest beiseite."
14 Then Joab said, "I'm not going to wait like this with you." He took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.
Da sprach Joab: "Mitnichten! Ich würde dich verteidigen." Da nahm er einen Dreizack in die Hand und stieß ihn Absalom ins Herz. Noch lebte er inmitten der Eiche.
15 Ten young men who bore Joab's armor surrounded and struck Absalom, and killed him.
Da traten zehn Diener herzu, Joabs Waffenträger, und schlugen Absalom vollends tot.
16 Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel; for Joab held back the people.
Dann stieß Joab in das Horn, und das Volk ließ von der Verfolgung Israels. Denn Joab schonte das Volk.
17 They took Absalom, and cast him into the great pit in the forest, and raised over him a very great heap of stones. Then all Israel fled everyone to his tent.
Dann nahmen sie Absalom, warfen ihn im Wald in eine große Grube und türmten einen mächtigen Steinwall über ihn. Ganz Israel aber war geflohen, jeder in sein Zelt.
18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself the pillar, which is in the King's Valley; for he said, "I have no son to keep my name in memory." He called the pillar after his own name; and it is called Absalom's monument, to this day.
Absalom aber hatte schon bei Lebzeiten ein Steinmal geholt und es im Königstal aufgestellt. Denn er hatte gesagt: "Ich habe keinen Sohn, um meinen Namen im Andenken zu erhalten." So nannte er das Steinmal nach seinem Namen. Daher heißt es "Absaloms Denkmal" bis auf diesen Tag.
19 Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, "Let me now run, and bear the king news, how that YHWH has avenged him of his enemies."
Sadoks Sohn Achimaas aber sprach: "Ich könnte hinlaufen und dem König Botschaft bringen, daß der Herr ihm gegen seine Feinde geholfen hat."
20 Joab said to him, "You shall not be the bearer of news this day, but you shall bear news another day. But today you shall bear no news, because the king's son is dead."
Da sprach Joab zu ihm: "Du bist heute nicht der Mann für solche Botschaft. Ein andermal bring Botschaft! Aber am heutigen Tag darfst du keine bringen, da doch des Königs Sohn tot ist."
21 Then Joab said to the Cushite, "Go, tell the king what you have seen." The Cushite bowed himself to Joab, and ran.
Dann sprach Joab zu dem Kuschiten: "Geh und melde dem König, was du gesehen!" Da verneigte sich der Kuschite vor Joab und lief weg.
22 Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said yet again to Joab, "But come what may, please let me also run after the Cushite." Joab said, "Why do you want to run, my son, since that you will have no reward for the news?"
Da redete Sadoks Sohn Achimaas nochmals Joab an: "Mag kommen, was will, ich möchte doch gern dem Kuschiten nachlaufen." Da sprach Joab: "Warum willst du, mein Sohn, laufen? Für dich gibt's keinen Botenlohn."
23 And he said, "But come what may, I will run." He said to him, "Run." Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Plain, and outran the Cushite.
Er sprach: "Mag kommen, was will, ich laufe hin." Da sagte er zu ihm: "Lauf!" Da lief Achimaas den Weg durch die Aue und überholte den Kuschiten.
24 Now David was sitting between the two gates, and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate to the wall and lifted up his eyes and looked and saw a man was running alone towards him.
David aber saß eben im Doppeltor. Und der Wächter stieg auf das Tordach an der Mauer. Als er seine Augen erhob, sah er einen Mann allein daherlaufen.
25 And the watchman called out, and told the king. And the king said, "If he is alone, there is good news in his mouth." And he came closer and closer.
Da rief der Wächter und meldete es dem König. Da sprach der König: "Ist er allein, dann bringt er gute Botschaft." Jener aber lief und kam immer näher.
26 And the watchman saw another man running. And the watchman above the gate called out, and said, "Look, another man running alone." And the king said, "He also brings good news."
Da sah der Wächter einen zweiten Mann laufen. Dies rief der Wächter dem Torwart zu und sprach: "Noch ein Mann läuft daher." Der König sprach: "Auch er bringt gute Botschaft."
27 The watchman said, "I think the running of the first one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok." The king said, "He is a good man, and comes with good news."
Da sprach der Wächter: "Soviel ich sehe, gleicht des ersten Gangart der des Sadoksohnes Achimaas." Da sprach der König: "Das ist ein wackerer Mann. Er kommt mit froher Botschaft."
28 And Ahimaaz came near and said to the king, "All is well." He bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, "Blessed is YHWH your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king."
Da rief Achimaas und sprach zum König: "Heil!" Dann warf er sich vor dem König mit dem Angesicht zu Boden und sprach: "Gepriesen sei der Herr, dein Gott, der die Männer preisgegeben, die ihre Hand gegen meinen Herrn, den König, erhoben haben!"
29 The king said, "Is it well with the young man Absalom?" And Ahimaaz answered, "When Joab, the king's servant, sent your servant off, I saw a great commotion, but I do not know what it was."
Der König fragte:"Ist heil der junge Mann Absalom?" Achimaas sagte: "Ich habe wildes Getümmel gesehen, als des Königs Diener Joab schon deinen Sklaven absandte, aber ich weiß nicht, was es gegeben hat."
30 The king said, "Turn aside, and stand here." He turned aside, and stood still.
Da sprach der König: "Tritt beiseite und stell dich hierher!" Er trat beiseite und stand da,
31 Look, the Cushite came. And he said, "News for my lord the king; for YHWH has avenged you this day of all those who rose up against you."
als der Kuschite kam. Und der Kuschite sprach: "Mein Herr, der König, lasse sich gute Kunde melden! Denn der Herr hat dir heute geholfen gegen alle, die sich gegen dich empört haben."
32 The king said to the Cushite, "Is it well with the young man Absalom?" The Cushite answered, "May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you to do you harm, be as that young man is."
Da fragte der König den Kuschiten: "Ist heil der junge Mann Absalom?" Da sprach der Kuschite: "Mögen dem jungen Manne im Unglück gleich werden die Feinde meines Herrn, des Königs, und alle, die sich gegen dich erhoben!"
33 The king was much moved, and went up to the room over the gate, and wept. As he went, he said, "My son Absalom. My son, my son Absalom. I wish I had died for you, Absalom, my son, my son."
Da erbebte der König, ging in des Tores Obergemach und weinte. Im Gehen rief er: "Mein Sohn Absalom! Mein Sohn! Mein Sohn Absalom! Wäre ich an deiner Statt gestorben! Absalom, mein Sohn! Mein Sohn!"
