Nehemiah 8
1 All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the square that was before the Water Gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the scroll of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.
Y se juntó todo el pueblo como un varón en la plaza que está delante de la puerta de las Aguas, y dijeron a Esdras el escriba, que trajese el libro de la ley de Moisés, la cual mandó el SEÑOR a Israel.
2 Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all who could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.
Y Esdras el sacerdote, trajo la ley delante de la congregación, así de varones como de mujeres, y de todo entendido para escuchar, el primer día del mes séptimo.
3 And he read it before the square that was before the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the scroll of the law.
Y leyó en el libro delante de la plaza que está delante de la puerta de las Aguas, desde el alba hasta el mediodía, en presencia de varones y mujeres y entendidos; y los oídos de todo el pueblo estaban atentos al libro de la ley.
4 Ezra the scribe stood on a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Uriah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
Y Esdras el escriba estaba sobre un púlpito de madera, que habían hecho para ello; y junto a él estaban Matatías, y Sema, y Anías, y Urías, e Hilcías, y Maasías, a su mano derecha; y a su mano izquierda, Pedaías, Misael, y Malquías, y Hasum, y Hasbadana, Zacarías, y Mesulam.
5 Ezra opened the scroll in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people; ) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
Abrió, pues, Esdras el libro a ojos de todo el pueblo (porque estaba más alto que todo el pueblo); y cuando lo abrió, todo el pueblo estuvo atento.
6 and Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. All the people answered, "Amen, Amen," with the lifting up of their hands. They bowed their heads, and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.
Bendijo entonces Esdras al SEÑOR, Dios grande. Y todo el pueblo respondió, ¡Amén! ¡Amén! alzando sus manos; y se humillaron, y adoraron al SEÑOR inclinados a tierra.
7 Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, the Levites, explained the law to the people, and the people stayed in their place.
Y Jesúa, y Bani, y Serebías, Jamín, Acub, Sabetai, Hodías, Maasías, Kelita, Azarías, Jozabed, Hanán, y Pelaía, levitas, hacían callar al pueblo para que la ley se entendiese; y el pueblo estaba en su lugar.
8 They read in the scroll, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading.
Y leían en el libro de la ley de Dios claramente, y pusieron el entendimiento, y entendieron la escritura.
9 Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites who taught the people, said to all the people, "This day is holy to the LORD your God. Do not mourn, nor weep." For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.
Y Nehemías el Tirsata, y el sacerdote Esdras, escriba, y los levitas que hacían atento al pueblo, dijeron a todo el pueblo: Día santo es al SEÑOR nuestro Dios; no os entristezcáis, ni lloréis; porque todo el pueblo lloraba oyendo las palabras de la ley.
10 Then he said to them, "Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved; for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
Y les dijo: Id, comed grosuras, y bebed vino dulce, y enviad porciones a los que no tienen aparejado; porque día santo es a nuestro Señor; y no os entristezcáis, porque el gozo del SEÑOR es vuestra fortaleza.
11 So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, "Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be grieved."
Los levitas, pues, hacían callar a todo el pueblo, diciendo: Callad, que es día santo, y no os entristezcáis.
12 All the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.
Y todo el pueblo se fue a comer y a beber, y a enviar porciones, y a gozar de gran alegría, porque habían entendido las palabras que les habían enseñado.
13 On the second day were gathered together the heads of ancestral houses of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, to Ezra the scribe, even to give attention to the words of the law.
Y al día siguiente se juntaron los príncipes de las familias de todo el pueblo, sacerdotes, y levitas, a Esdras escriba, para entender las palabras de la ley.
14 They found written in the law, how that the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month;
Y hallaron escrito en la ley que el SEÑOR había mandado por mano de Moisés, que habitasen los hijos de Israel en cabañas en la fiesta del mes séptimo;
15 and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the mountain, and get olive branches, and branches of wild olive, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written."
y que hiciesen saber, y pasar pregón por todas sus ciudades y por Jerusalén, diciendo: Salid al monte, y traed ramos de oliva, y ramos de pino, y ramos de arrayán, y ramos de palmas, y ramos de todo árbol espeso, para hacer cabañas como está escrito.
16 So the people went out, and brought them, and made themselves booths, everyone on the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of God's house, and in the broad place of the Water Gate, and in the broad place of the Ephraim Gate.
Salió, pues, el pueblo, y trajeron, y se hicieron cabañas, cada uno sobre su terrado, y en sus patios, y en los patios de la Casa de Dios, y en la plaza de la puerta de las Aguas, y en la plaza de la puerta de Efraín.
17 All the assembly of those who had come again out of the captivity made booths, and lived in the booths; for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun to that day the children of Israel had not done so. There was very great gladness.
Y toda la congregación que volvió de la cautividad hicieron cabañas, y en cabañas habitaron; porque desde los días de Josué hijo de Nun hasta aquel día, no habían hecho así los hijos de Israel. Y hubo alegría muy grande.
18 Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the scroll of the law of God. They kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.
Y leyó Esdras en el libro de la ley de Dios cada día, desde el primer día hasta el postrero; e hicieron la fiesta por siete días, y al octavo día congregación, según la ordenanza.
