Exodus 5

1 Afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said to Pharaoh, "This is what Jehovah, God of Israel, says, 'Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.'"

E depois foram Moisés e Aarão, e disseram a faraó: Assim diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: Deixa ir o meu povo, para que me célebre uma festa no deserto.

2 Pharaoh said, "Who is Jehovah, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I do not know Jehovah, and moreover I will not let Israel go."

Mas faraó disse: Quem é o Senhor, cuja voz eu ouvirei, para deixar ir Israel? não conheço o Senhor, nem tão pouco deixarei ir Israel.

3 They said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to our God, lest he fall on us with pestilence, or with the sword."

E eles disseram: O Deus dos hebreus nos encontrou; portanto deixa-nos agora ir caminho de três dias ao deserto, para que não venha sobre nós com pestilência ou com espada.

4 The king of Egypt said to them, "Why do you, Moses and Aaron, take the people from their work? Get back to your burdens."

Então disse-lhes o rei do Egito: Moisés e Aarão, porque fazeis cessar o povo das suas obras? ide a vossas cargas.

5 Pharaoh said, "Look, the people of the land are now many, and you make them rest from their burdens."

E disse também faraó: Eis que o povo da terra já é muito, e vós fazeis cessa-los das suas cargas.

6 The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

Portanto deu ordem faraó naquele mesmo dia aos exatores do povo, e aos seus oficiais, dizendo:

7 "You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick, as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

Daqui em diante não torneis a dar palha ao povo, para fazer tijolos, como fizestes ontem e anteontem: vão eles mesmos, e colham palhas para si.

8 The number of the bricks, which they made before, you require from them. You shall not diminish anything of it, for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, 'Let us go and sacrifice to our God.'

E lhes imporeis a conta dos tijolos que fizeram ontem, e anteontem: nada diminuireis dela: porque eles estão ociosos; por isso clamam, dizendo: Vamos, sacrifiquemos ao nosso Deus.

9 Let heavier work be laid on the men, so they may labor at it and pay no attention to lying words."

Agrave-se o serviço sobre estes homens, para que se ocupem nele, e não confiem em palavras de mentira.

10 The taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, This is what Pharaoh says: "I will not give you straw.

Então sairam os exatores do povo, e seus oficiais, e falaram ao povo, dizendo: Assim diz faraó: Eu não vos darei palha;

11 Go yourselves, get straw where you can find it, for nothing of your work shall be diminished."

Ide vós mesmos, e tomai vós palha de onde a achardes: porque nada se diminuirá de vosso serviço.

12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather dry stalks for straw.

Então o povo se espalhou por toda a terra do Egito, a colher rastolho em lugar de palha.

13 The taskmasters kept pressing them, saying, "Fulfill your work quota, your daily amount, as when there was straw."

E os exatores os apertavam, dizendo: acabai vossa obra, a tarefa de cada dia, como quando havia palha.

14 The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, "Why haven't you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?"

E foram açoitados os oficiais dos filhos de Israel, que os exatores de faraó tinham posto sobre eles, dizendo estes: Porque não acabastes vossa tarefa, fazendo tijolos como antes, assim também ontem e hoje?

15 Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, "Why do you deal this way with your servants?

Pelo que foram-se os oficiais dos filhos de Israel, e clamaram a faraó, dizendo: Porque fazes assim a teus servos?

16 No straw is given to your servants, and they tell us, 'Make bricks.' And look, your servants are beaten, but the fault is with your own people."

Palha não se dá a teus servos, e nos dizem: Fazei tijolos: e eis que teus servos são açoitados; porém o teu povo tem a culpa.

17 But he said, "You are slackers! Slackers! Therefore you say, 'Let us go and sacrifice to God.'

Mas ele disse: Vós sois ociosos: vós sois ociosos: por isso dizeis: Vamos, sacrifiquemos ao Senhor.

18 Go therefore now, and work, for no straw shall be given to you, yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks."

Ide pois agora, trabalhai: palha porém não se vos dará: contudo, dareis a conta dos tijolos.

19 The officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble, when it was said, "You shall not diminish anything from your daily quota of bricks."

Então os oficiais dos filhos de Israel viram-se em aflição, porquanto se dizia: Nada diminuireis de vossos tijolos, da tarefa do dia no seu dia.

20 They met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:

E encontraram a Moisés e a Aarão, que estavam defronte deles, quando sairam de faraó,

21 and they said to them, "May God look at you, and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us."

E disseram-lhes: O Senhor atente sobre vós, e julgue isso, porquanto fizeste feder o nosso cheiro diante de faraó, e diante de seus servos, dando-lhes a espada nas mãos, para nos matar.

22 Moses returned to Jehovah, and said, "Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it that you have sent me?

Então se tornou Moisés ao Senhor, e disse: Senhor! porque fizeste mal a este povo? porque me enviaste?

23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people; neither have you delivered your people at all."

Porque desde que entrei a faraó, para falar em teu nome, ele maltratou a este povo; e de nenhuma sorte livraste o teu povo.
