Matthew 27
1 Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Yeshua to put him to death:
prabhātē jātē pradhānayājakalōkaprācīnā yīśuṁ hantuṁ tatpratikūlaṁ mantrayitvā
2 and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him to Pilate, the governor.
taṁ badvvā nītvā pantīyapīlātākhyādhipē samarpayāmāsuḥ|
3 Then Yehudah, who betrayed him, when he saw that Yeshua was condemned, felt remorse, and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
tatō yīśōḥ parakarēvvarpayitā yihūdāstatprāṇādaṇḍājñāṁ viditvā santaptamanāḥ pradhānayājakalōkaprācīnānāṁ samakṣaṁ tāstrīṁśanmudrāḥ pratidāyāvādīt,
4 saying, "I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood." But they said, "What is that to us? You see to it."
ētannirāgōnaraprāṇaparakarārpaṇāt kaluṣaṁ kr̥tavānahaṁ| tadā ta uditavantaḥ, tēnāsmākaṁ kiṁ? tvayā tad budhyatām|
5 He threw down the pieces of silver in the sanctuary, and departed. He went away and hanged himself.
tatō yihūdā mandiramadhyē tā mudrā nikṣipya prasthitavān itvā ca svayamātmānamudbabandha|
6 The chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said, "It's not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood."
paścāt pradhānayājakāstā mudrā ādāya kathitavantaḥ, ētā mudrāḥ śōṇitamūlyaṁ tasmād bhāṇḍāgārē na nidhātavyāḥ|
7 They took counsel, and bought the potter's field with them, to bury strangers in.
anantaraṁ tē mantrayitvā vidēśināṁ śmaśānasthānāya tābhiḥ kulālasya kṣētramakrīṇan|
8 Therefore that field was called "The Field of Blood" to this day.
atō'dyāpi tatsthānaṁ raktakṣētraṁ vadanti|
9 Then that which was spoken through Aramiyah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, "They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him upon whom a price had been set, whom some of the people of Israyel priced,
itthaṁ sati isrāyēlīyasantānai ryasya mūlyaṁ nirupitaṁ, tasya triṁśanmudrāmānaṁ mūlyaṁ
10 and they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me."
māṁ prati paramēśvarasyādēśāt tēbhya ādīyata, tēna ca kulālasya kṣētraṁ krītamiti yadvacanaṁ yirimiyabhaviṣyadvādinā prōktaṁ tat tadāsidhyat|
11 Now Yeshua stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Yeshua said to him, "You say so."
anantaraṁ yīśau tadadhipatēḥ sammukha upatiṣṭhati sa taṁ papraccha, tvaṁ kiṁ yihūdīyānāṁ rājā? tadā yīśustamavadat, tvaṁ satyamuktavān|
12 When he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
kintu pradhānayājakaprācīnairabhiyuktēna tēna kimapi na pratyavādi|
13 Then Pilate said to him, "Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?"
tataḥ pīlātēna sa uditaḥ, imē tvatpratikūlataḥ kati kati sākṣyaṁ dadati, tat tvaṁ na śr̥ṇōṣi?
14 He gave him no answer, not even one word, so that the governor was greatly amazed.
tathāpi sa tēṣāmēkasyāpi vacasa uttaraṁ nōditavān; tēna sō'dhipati rmahācitraṁ vidāmāsa|
15 Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the crowd one prisoner, whom they desired.
anyacca tanmahakālē'dhipatērētādr̥śī rātirāsīt, prajā yaṁ kañcana bandhinaṁ yācantē, tamēva sa mōcayatīti|
16 They had then a notable prisoner, called Bar-Aba.
tadānīṁ barabbānāmā kaścit khyātabandhyāsīt|
17 When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want me to release to you? Bar-Aba, or Yeshua, who is called Meshikha?"
tataḥ pīlātastatra militān lōkān apr̥cchat, ēṣa barabbā bandhī khrīṣṭavikhyātō yīśuścaitayōḥ kaṁ mōcayiṣyāmi? yuṣmākaṁ kimīpsitaṁ?
18 For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.
tairīrṣyayā sa samarpita iti sa jñātavān|
19 While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him."
aparaṁ vicārāsanōpavēśanakālē pīlātasya patnī bhr̥tyaṁ prahitya tasmai kathayāmāsa, taṁ dhārmmikamanujaṁ prati tvayā kimapi na karttavyaṁ; yasmāt tatkr̥tē'dyāhaṁ svapnē prabhūtakaṣṭamalabhē|
20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Bar-Aba, and destroy Yeshua.
anantaraṁ pradhānayājakaprācīnā barabbāṁ yācitvādātuṁ yīśuñca hantuṁ sakalalōkān prāvarttayan|
21 But the governor answered them, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" They said, "Bar-Aba."
tatō'dhipatistān pr̥ṣṭavān, ētayōḥ kamahaṁ mōcayiṣyāmi? yuṣmākaṁ kēcchā? tē prōcu rbarabbāṁ|
22 Pilate said to them, "What then should I do with Yeshua, who is called Meshikha?" They all said, "Let him be crucified."
tadā pīlātaḥ papraccha, tarhi yaṁ khrīṣṭaṁ vadanti, taṁ yīśuṁ kiṁ kariṣyāmi? sarvvē kathayāmāsuḥ, sa kruśēna vidhyatāṁ|
23 But he said, "Why? What evil has he done?" But they shouted all the louder, saying, "Let him be crucified."
tatō'dhipatiravādīt, kutaḥ? kiṁ tēnāparāddhaṁ? kintu tē punarucai rjagaduḥ, sa kruśēna vidhyatāṁ|
24 So Pilate, seeing that nothing was being gained, but rather that a disturbance was starting, took water and he washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man. You see to it."
tadā nijavākyamagrāhyamabhūt, kalahaścāpyabhūt, pīlāta iti vilōkya lōkānāṁ samakṣaṁ tōyamādāya karau prakṣālyāvōcat, ētasya dhārmmikamanuṣyasya śōṇitapātē nirdōṣō'haṁ, yuṣmābhirēva tad budhyatāṁ|
25 All the people answered, "May his blood be on us, and on our children."
tadā sarvvāḥ prajāḥ pratyavōcan, tasya śōṇitapātāparādhō'smākam asmatsantānānāñcōpari bhavatu|
26 Then he released to them Bar-Aba, but Yeshua he flogged and delivered to be crucified.
tataḥ sa tēṣāṁ samīpē barabbāṁ mōcayāmāsa yīśuntu kaṣābhirāhatya kruśēna vēdhituṁ samarpayāmāsa|
27 Then the governor's soldiers took Yeshua into the Praetorium, and gathered the whole garrison together against him.
anantaram adhipatēḥ sēnā adhipatē rgr̥haṁ yīśumānīya tasya samīpē sēnāsamūhaṁ saṁjagr̥huḥ|
28 They stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him.
tatastē tasya vasanaṁ mōcayitvā kr̥ṣṇalōhitavarṇavasanaṁ paridhāpayāmāsuḥ
29 They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, "Greetings, King of the Jews."
kaṇṭakānāṁ mukuṭaṁ nirmmāya tacchirasi daduḥ, tasya dakṣiṇakarē vētramēkaṁ dattvā tasya sammukhē jānūni pātayitvā, hē yihūdīyānāṁ rājan, tubhyaṁ nama ityuktvā taṁ tiraścakruḥ,
30 They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.
tatastasya gātrē niṣṭhīvaṁ datvā tēna vētrēṇa śira ājaghnuḥ|
31 When they had mocked him, they took the robe off of him, and put his clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him.
itthaṁ taṁ tiraskr̥tya tad vasanaṁ mōcayitvā punarnijavasanaṁ paridhāpayāñcakruḥ, taṁ kruśēna vēdhituṁ nītavantaḥ|
32 As they came out, they found a man of Qurinaya, Shimon by name, and they compelled him to go with them, that he might carry his cross.
paścāttē bahirbhūya kurīṇīyaṁ śimōnnāmakamēkaṁ vilōkya kruśaṁ vōḍhuṁ tamādadirē|
33 They came to a place called "Gagulta," that is to say, "The place of a skull."
anantaraṁ gulgaltām arthāt śiraskapālanāmakasthānamu pasthāya tē yīśavē pittamiśritāmlarasaṁ pātuṁ daduḥ,
34 They gave him wine to drink mixed with gall. When he had tasted it, he would not drink.
kintu sa tamāsvādya na papau|
35 When they had crucified him, they divided his clothing among themselves, casting a lot, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: 'They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast a lot.'
tadānīṁ tē taṁ kruśēna saṁvidhya tasya vasanāni guṭikāpātēna vibhajya jagr̥huḥ, tasmāt, vibhajantē'dharīyaṁ mē tē manuṣyāḥ parasparaṁ| maduttarīyavastrārthaṁ guṭikāṁ pātayanti ca||yadētadvacanaṁ bhaviṣyadvādibhiruktamāsīt, tadā tad asidhyat,
36 And they sat and watched him there.
paścāt tē tatrōpaviśya tadrakṣaṇakarvvaṇi niyuktāstasthuḥ|
37 They set up over his head the accusation against him written, "THIS IS YESHUA, THE KING OF THE JEWS."
aparam ēṣa yihūdīyānāṁ rājā yīśurityapavādalipipatraṁ tacchirasa ūrdvvē yōjayāmāsuḥ|
38 Then there were two robbers crucified with him, one on his right hand and one on the left.
tatastasya vāmē dakṣiṇē ca dvau cairau tēna sākaṁ kruśēna vividhuḥ|
39 Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,
tadā pānthā nijaśirō lāḍayitvā taṁ nindantō jagaduḥ,
40 and saying, "You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save yourself. If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross."
hē īśvaramandirabhañjaka dinatrayē tannirmmātaḥ svaṁ rakṣa, cēttvamīśvarasutastarhi kruśādavarōha|
41 Likewise the chief priests also mocking, with the scribes, and the elders, said,
pradhānayājakādhyāpakaprācīnāśca tathā tiraskr̥tya jagaduḥ,
42 "He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israyel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.
sō'nyajanānāvat, kintu svamavituṁ na śaknōti| yadīsrāyēlō rājā bhavēt, tarhīdānīmēva kruśādavarōhatu, tēna taṁ vayaṁ pratyēṣyāmaḥ|
43 He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'"
sa īśvarē pratyāśāmakarōt, yadīśvarastasmin santuṣṭastarhīdānīmēva tamavēt, yataḥ sa uktavān ahamīśvarasutaḥ|
44 The robbers also who were crucified with him insulted him in the same way.
yau stēnau sākaṁ tēna kruśēna viddhau tau tadvadēva taṁ ninindatuḥ|
45 Now from noon until three in the afternoon there was darkness over all the land.
tadā dvitīyayāmāt tr̥tīyayāmaṁ yāvat sarvvadēśē tamiraṁ babhūva,
46 Then at about three in the afternoon Yeshua called out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lema shabachthani?" That is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
tr̥tīyayāmē "ēlī ēlī lāmā śivaktanī", arthāt madīśvara madīśvara kutō māmatyākṣīḥ? yīśuruccairiti jagāda|
47 Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, "This man is calling Eliya."
tadā tatra sthitāḥ kēcit tat śrutvā babhāṣirē, ayam ēliyamāhūyati|
48 Immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him a drink.
tēṣāṁ madhyād ēkaḥ śīghraṁ gatvā spañjaṁ gr̥hītvā tatrāmlarasaṁ dattvā nalēna pātuṁ tasmai dadau|
49 The rest said, "Let him be. Let us see whether Eliya comes to save him."
itarē'kathayan tiṣṭhata, taṁ rakṣitum ēliya āyāti navēti paśyāmaḥ|
50 And Yeshua cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.
yīśuḥ punarucairāhūya prāṇān jahau|
51 And look, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split.
tatō mandirasya vicchēdavasanam ūrdvvādadhō yāvat chidyamānaṁ dvidhābhavat,
52 The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;
bhūmiścakampē bhūdharōvyadīryyata ca| śmaśānē muktē bhūripuṇyavatāṁ suptadēhā udatiṣṭhan,
53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city and appeared to many.
śmaśānād vahirbhūya tadutthānāt paraṁ puṇyapuraṁ gatvā bahujanān darśayāmāsuḥ|
54 Now the centurion, and those who were with him watching Yeshua, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God."
yīśurakṣaṇāya niyuktaḥ śatasēnāpatistatsaṅginaśca tādr̥śīṁ bhūkampādighaṭanāṁ dr̥ṣṭvā bhītā avadan, ēṣa īśvaraputrō bhavati|
55 Many women were there watching from afar, who had followed Yeshua from Galila, serving him.
yā bahuyōṣitō yīśuṁ sēvamānā gālīlastatpaścādāgatāstāsāṁ madhyē
56 Among them were Maryam Magdelaitha, Maryam the mother of Yaquv and Yauseph, and the mother of the sons of Zabedai.
magdalīnī mariyam yākūbyōśyō rmātā yā mariyam sibadiyaputrayō rmātā ca yōṣita ētā dūrē tiṣṭhantyō dadr̥śuḥ|
57 When evening had come, a rich man from Arimathea, named Yauseph, who himself was also Yeshua's disciple came.
sandhyāyāṁ satyam arimathiyānagarasya yūṣaphnāmā dhanī manujō yīśōḥ śiṣyatvāt
58 This man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Yeshua. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given up.
pīlātasya samīpaṁ gatvā yīśōḥ kāyaṁ yayācē, tēna pīlātaḥ kāyaṁ dātum ādidēśa|
59 Yauseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
yūṣaph tatkāyaṁ nītvā śucivastrēṇācchādya
60 and placed it in his own new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.
svārthaṁ śailē yat śmaśānaṁ cakhāna, tanmadhyē tatkāyaṁ nidhāya tasya dvāri vr̥hatpāṣāṇaṁ dadau|
61 Maryam Magdelaitha was there, and the other Maryam, sitting opposite the tomb.
kintu magdalīnī mariyam anyamariyam ētē striyau tatra śmaśānasammukha upaviviśatuḥ|
62 Now on the next day, which was the day after the Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together to Pilate,
tadanantaraṁ nistārōtsavasyāyōjanadināt parē'hani pradhānayājakāḥ phirūśinaśca militvā pīlātamupāgatyākathayan,
63 saying, "Sir, we remember what that deceiver said while he was still alive: 'After three days I will rise again.'
hē mahēccha sa pratārakō jīvana akathayat, dinatrayāt paraṁ śmaśānādutthāsyāmi tadvākyaṁ smarāmō vayaṁ;
64 Command therefore that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest perhaps his disciples come and steal him away, and tell the people, 'He is risen from the dead;' and the last deception will be worse than the first."
tasmāt tr̥tīyadinaṁ yāvat tat śmaśānaṁ rakṣitumādiśatu, nōcēt tacchiṣyā yāminyāmāgatya taṁ hr̥tvā lōkān vadiṣyanti, sa śmaśānādudatiṣṭhat, tathā sati prathamabhrāntēḥ śēṣīyabhrānti rmahatī bhaviṣyati|
65 Pilate said to them, "You have a guard. Go, make it as secure as you can."
tadā pīlāta avādīt, yuṣmākaṁ samīpē rakṣigaṇa āstē, yūyaṁ gatvā yathā sādhyaṁ rakṣayata|
66 So they went with the guard and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone.
tatastē gatvā taddūrapāṣāṇaṁ mudrāṅkitaṁ kr̥tvā rakṣigaṇaṁ niyōjya śmaśānaṁ rakṣayāmāsuḥ|
