1 Samuel 10
1 Then Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him, and said, "Has not the LORD anointed you to be ruler over his people Israel? And you shall rule over the people of the LORD, and you shall save them out of the hand of their enemies all around. And this shall be the sign to you that the LORD has anointed you to be ruler over his inheritance.
Samuel prit une fiole d'huile, et la versa sur la tête de Saül; puis il le baisa et dit: « Yahweh ne t'a-t-il pas oint pour chef sur son héritage?
2 When you have departed from me today, then you shall find two men by Rachel's tomb, in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will tell you, 'The donkeys which you went to seek have been found; and look, your father has stopped caring about the donkeys, and is anxious for you, saying, "What shall I do for my son?"'
Quand tu m'auras quitté aujourd'hui, tu trouveras deux hommes près du sépulcre de Rachel, dans le territoire de Benjamin, à Selsach; ils te diront: « Les ânesses que tu es allé chercher sont retrouvées; et voici, ton père a perdu de vue l'affaire des ânesses, mais il est en peine de vous et dit: Que dois-je faire au sujet de mon fils? »
3 "Then you shall go on forward from there, and you shall come to the oak of Tabor; and three men shall meet you there going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three young goats, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a container of wine:
De là, poursuivant ta route, tu arriveras au chêne de Thabor, et là tu seras rencontré par trois hommes montant vers Dieu à Béthel, et portant l'un trois chevreaux, l'autre trois miches de pain, et l'autre une outre de vin.
4 and they will greet you and give you two wave offerings of bread, which you shall accept from their hand.
Après qu'ils t'auront salué, ils te donneront deux pains, et tu les recevras de leurs mains.
5 After that you shall come to Gibeath Elohim, where the Philistine garrison is. And it shall happen, when you have come there to the city, that you shall meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with harps, and tambourines, and flutes, and lyres before them, and they will be prophesying.
Après cela, tu viendras à Gabaa de Dieu, où se trouve un poste de Philistins. En entrant dans la ville, tu rencontreras une troupe de prophètes descendant du haut lieu, précédés de luths, tambourins, flûtes et harpes, et prophétisant.
6 And the Spirit of the LORD will come mightily on you, and you shall prophesy with them, and shall be transformed into a different person.
L'Esprit de Yahweh te saisira, et tu prophétiseras avec eux, et tu seras changé en un autre homme.
7 And let it be, when these signs have come to you, that you do as the occasion demands, for God is with you.
Lorsque ces signes se seront accomplis pour toi, fais ce qui se présentera, car Dieu est avec toi.
8 "You shall go down before me to Gilgal; and look, I will come down to you, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: you shall wait seven days, until I come to you, and show you what you shall do."
Et tu descendras avant moi à Galgala; et voici, je descendrai vers toi, pour offrir des holocaustes et des sacrifices pacifiques. Tu attendras sept jours jusqu'à ce que je sois venu vers toi et je te ferai connaître ce que tu dois faire. »
9 It was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs happened that day.
Dès que Saül eut tourné le dos pour se séparer de Samuel, Dieu lui donna un autre cœur, et tous ces signes s'accomplirent le même jour.
10 And he went from there to Gibeah, and look, a band of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily on him, and he prophesied among them.
Quand ils arrivèrent à Gabaa, voici qu'une troupe de prophètes vint à sa rencontre; et l'Esprit de Dieu le saisit, et il prophétisa au milieu d'eux.
11 It happened, when all who knew him before saw that, look, he prophesied with the prophets, then the people said one to another, "What is this that has come to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?"
Quand tous ceux qui le connaissaient auparavant virent qu'il prophétisait avec les prophètes, tous ces gens se dirent l'un à l'autre: « Qu'est-il arrivé au fils de Cis? Saül est-il donc aussi parmi les prophètes? »
12 One of the same place answered, "Who is their father?" Therefore it became a proverb, "Is Saul also among the prophets?"
Quelqu'un de la foule prit la parole et dit: « Et qui est leur père? » — C'est pourquoi cela est passé en proverbe: « Saül est-il aussi parmi les prophètes? » —
13 When he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.
Lorsqu'il eut cessé de prophétiser, il se rendit en haut lieu.
14 Saul's uncle said to him and to his servant, "Where did you go?" He said, "To seek the donkeys. When we saw that they were not found, we came to Samuel."
L'oncle de Saül dit à Saül et à son serviteur: « Où êtes-vous allés? » Saül répondit: « Chercher les ânesses; mais ne les ayant vues nulle part, nous sommes allés vers Samuel. »
15 Saul's uncle said, "Please tell me what Samuel said to you."
L'oncle de Saül dit: « Raconte-moi ce que vous a dit Samuel. »
16 Saul said to his uncle, "He told us plainly that the donkeys were found." But concerning the matter of the kingdom, of which Samuel spoke, he did not tell him.
Et Saül répondit à son oncle: « Il nous a appris que les ânesses étaient retrouvées. » Mais quant à l'affaire de la royauté, il ne lui rapporta pas ce qu'avait dit Samuel.
17 Samuel called the people together to the LORD to Mizpah;
Samuel convoqua le peuple devant Yahweh à Maspha,
18 and he said to the children of Israel, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you:'
et il dit aux enfants d'Israël: « Ainsi parle Yahweh, le Dieu d'Israël: J'ai fait monter Israël d'Egypte, et je vous ai délivrés de la main des Egyptiens et de la main de tous les royaumes qui vous opprimaient.
19 but you have this day rejected your God, who himself saves you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and you have said, 'No. Set a king over us.' Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands."
Et vous, aujourd'hui, vous rejetez votre Dieu, qui vous a délivrés de tous vos maux et de toutes vos souffrances, et vous lui dites: Etablis un roi sur nous! Présentez-vous maintenant devant Yahweh, selon vos tribus et selon vos familles. »
20 So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken.
Samuel fit approcher toutes les tribus d'Israël, et la tribu de Benjamin fut désignée par le sort.
21 He brought the tribe of Benjamin near by their families, and the family of the Matrites was taken. And he brought the family of the Matrites near man by man, and Saul the son of Kish was taken. But when they looked for him, he could not be found.
Il fit approcher la tribu de Benjamin par familles, et la famille de Métri fut désignée; puis Saül, fis de Cis fut désigné. On le chercha, mais on ne le trouva point.
22 Therefore they asked of the LORD further, "Is there a man yet to come here?" The LORD answered, "Look, he has hidden himself among the baggage."
Alors ils interrogèrent de nouveau Yahweh: « Est-il venu ici encore quelqu'un? » Yahweh répondit: « Voici, il est caché parmi les bagages. »
23 They ran and fetched him there; and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
On courut le tirer de là, et il se tint au milieu du peuple, dépassant tout le peuple de l'épaule et au delà.
24 Samuel said to all the people, "You see him whom the LORD has chosen, that there is none like him among all the people?" All the people shouted, and said, "Let the king live."
Et Samuel dit à tout le peuple: « Voyez-vous celui que Yahweh a choisi? Il n'y a personne dans tout le peuple qui soit semblable à lui. » Et tout le peuple poussa des cris en disant: « Vive le roi! »
25 Then Samuel told the people the regulations of the kingdom, and wrote it on a scroll, and laid it up before the LORD. Samuel sent all the people away, every man went to his place
Alors Samuel exposa au peuple le droit de la royauté, et il l'écrivit dans le livre, qu'il déposa devant Yahweh; puis il renvoya tout le peuple, chacun dans sa maison.
26 Saul also went to his house to Gibeah; and there went with him the valient men, whose hearts the LORD had touched.
Saül aussi s'en alla dans sa maison à Gabaa, accompagné d'hommes de valeur, dont Dieu avait touché le cœur.
27 But certain worthless fellows said, "How shall this man save us?" So they despised him, and brought him no present. Now Nahash, king of the Ammonites, was severely oppressing the Gadites and the Reubenites. He put out the right eye of all of them, and he would not allow anyone to rescue Israel. Not one was left of the children of Israel beyond the Jordan whose right eye Nahash, king of the Ammonites, did not put out, except for seven thousand men who had escaped from the Ammonites and went to Jabesh Gilead.
Toutefois les hommes de Bélial disaient: « Est-ce celui-là qui nous sauvera? » Et ils le méprisèrent et ne lui apportèrent pas de présents. Mais Saül n'y prit point garde.
