Joshua 4

1 And it comes to pass, when all the nation has completed to pass over the Jordan, that YHWH speaks to Joshua, saying,

Cuando toda la nación había llegado al otro lado del Jordán, el Señor le dijo a Josué:

2 “Take for yourselves twelve men out of the people, one man—one man out of a tribe;

Toma doce hombres del pueblo, un hombre por cada tribu.

3 and command them, saying, Take up for yourselves from this [place], from the midst of the Jordan, from the established standing-place of the feet of the priests, twelve stones, and you have removed them over with you, and placed them in the lodging-place in which you lodge tonight.”

Y diles: Toma desde el medio del Jordán, desde el lugar donde descansaban los pies de los sacerdotes, doce piedras, y llévalos contigo y colócalos en el lugar donde descansen esta noche.

4 And Joshua calls to the twelve men whom he prepared out of the sons of Israel, one man—one man out of a tribe;

Y Josué envió a buscar a los doce hombres que él tenía preparados, uno de cada tribu de los hijos de Israel,

5 and Joshua says to them, “Pass over before the Ark of your God YHWH into the midst of the Jordan, and each of you lift up one stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel,

Y él les dijo: Vayan delante del cofre del pacto de su Dios, en medio del Jordán, y cada uno de ustedes levanten una piedra sobre su espalda, una por cada tribu de los hijos de Israel:

6 so that this is a sign in your midst when your children ask hereafter, saying, What [are] these stones to you?

Para que esto sea señal entre ustedes; Cuando sus hijos les pregunten, ¿Cuál es la razón de estas piedras?

7 That you have said to them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off, at the presence of the Ark of the Covenant of YHWH; in its passing over into the Jordan the waters of the Jordan were cut off; and these stones have been for a memorial to the sons of Israel for all time.”

Entonces les dirás: Porque las aguas del Jordán fueron cortadas delante del cofre del pacto del Señor; cuando pasó por el Jordán, se cortaron las aguas del Jordán, y estas piedras serán una señal para los hijos de Israel, que se mantendrán en su memoria para siempre.

8 And the sons of Israel do so as Joshua commanded, and take up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as YHWH has spoken to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel, and remove them over with them to the lodging-place, and place them there,

Entonces los hijos de Israel hicieron lo que Josué les mandó, y tomaron doce piedras del medio del Jordán, como el Señor le había dicho a Josué, una por cada tribu de los hijos de Israel; Los llevaron con ellos al lugar de descanso de la noche y los pusieron allí.

9 even the twelve stones Joshua has raised up out of the midst of the Jordan, the place of the standing of the feet of the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant, and they are there to this day.

Y Josué puso doce piedras en medio del Jordán, donde se habían colocado los pies de los sacerdotes que tomaron el cofre del pacto: y allí están hasta hoy.

10 And the priests carrying the Ark are standing in the midst of the Jordan until the completion of the whole thing which YHWH commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua, and the people hurry and pass over.

Porque los sacerdotes que tomaron el cofre del pacto permanecieron allí en el medio del Jordán hasta que todas las órdenes dadas por él Señor por medio de Josué. Todo se hizo según Moisés había mandado a Josué entonces la gente se fue rápidamente.

11 And it comes to pass, when all the people have completed to pass over, that the Ark of YHWH passes over, and the priests, in the presence of the people;

Y cuando todo el pueblo llegó al otro lado, el cofre del pacto del Señor se acercó, y los sacerdotes, delante de los ojos del pueblo.

12 and the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, pass over, by fifties, before the sons of Israel, as Moses had spoken to them;

Y los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés fueron armados delante de los hijos de Israel como Moisés les había dicho:

13 about forty thousand, armed ones of the host, passed over before YHWH for battle, to the plains of Jericho.

Unos cuarenta mil armados para la guerra fueron ante el Señor a la lucha, a las tierras bajas de Jericó.

14 On that day YHWH has made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel, and they fear him, as they feared Moses, all [the] days of his life.

Ese día él Señor hizo a Josué grande ante los ojos de todo Israel; y todos los días de su vida fueron a temerle a él, como habían temido a Moisés.

15 And YHWH speaks to Joshua, saying,

Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Josué:

16 “Command the priests carrying the Ark of the Testimony, and they come up out of the Jordan.”

Manda a los sacerdotes que tomen el cofre del pacto, que salgan del Jordán.

17 And Joshua commands the priests, saying, “Come up out of the Jordan.”

Entonces Josué dio órdenes a los sacerdotes, diciendo: Salgan ahora del Jordán.

18 And it comes to pass, in the coming up of the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant of YHWH out of the midst of the Jordan—the soles of the feet of the priests have been drawn up into the dry ground—and the waters of the Jordan return to their place, and go over all its banks as before.

Y cuando los sacerdotes que tomaron el cofre del pacto del Señor salieron del Jordán y sus pies salieron a tierra firme, las aguas del Jordán regresaron a su lugar, desbordando sus bordes como antes.

19 And the people have come up out of the Jordan on the tenth of the first month, and encamp in Gilgal, in the extremity east of Jericho;

El décimo día del primer mes, el pueblo salió del Jordán y puso sus tiendas en Gilgal, en el lado este de Jericó.

20 and these twelve stones, which they have taken out of the Jordan, Joshua has raised up in Gilgal.

Y las doce piedras que sacaron del Jordán, Josué pusieron en Gilgal.

21 And he speaks to the sons of Israel, saying, “When your sons ask their fathers hereafter, saying, What [are] these stones?

Y dijo a los hijos de Israel: Cuando sus hijos pregunten a sus padres en el futuro, ¿cuál es la razón de estas piedras?

22 Then you have caused your sons to know, saying, Israel passed over this Jordan on dry land;

Entonces cuéntales a sus hijos y digan: Israel cruzó este río Jordán en tierra firme.

23 because your God YHWH dried up the waters of the Jordan at your presence, until your passing over, as your God YHWH did to the Red Sea which He dried up at our presence until our passing over;

Porque el Señor su Dios hizo que las aguas del Jordán se secaran delante de ti hasta que hubieras cruzado, como lo hizo con el Mar Rojo, secándose antes de que hubiéramos cruzado:

24 so that all the people of the land know the hand of YHWH—that it [is] strong, so that you have feared your God YHWH [for] all the days.”

Para que todos los pueblos de la tierra vean que la mano del Señor es fuerte; y para que vayan temiendo al Señor su Dios para siempre.
