Psalms 78
1 “A Maskil of Assaph.” Give ear, O my people, to my instruction: incline thy ear to the words of my mouth.
Ein Maskil; von Asaph. Horche, mein Volk, auf mein Gesetz! Neiget euer Ohr zu den Worten meines Mundes!
2 I will open with a parable my mouth: I will utter riddles out of ancient times;
Ich will meinen Mund auftun zu einem Spruche, will Rätsel hervorströmen lassen aus der Vorzeit.
3 Which we have heard and know, and which our fathers have related unto us.
Was wir gehört und erfahren und unsere Väter uns erzählt haben,
4 We will not conceal them from their children, relating to the latest generation the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful deeds which he hath done.
wollen wir nicht verhehlen ihren Söhnen, dem künftigen Geschlecht erzählend den Ruhm Jehovas und seine Stärke, und seine Wunderwerke, die er getan hat.
5 Yea, he established a testimony in Jacob, and instituted a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
Denn er hat ein Zeugnis aufgerichtet in Jakob, und ein Gesetz gestellt in Israel, die er unseren Vätern geboten hat, um sie ihren Söhnen kundzutun;
6 In order that the latest generation might know them, even the children that are to be born; that they may arise and relate them to their children;
damit sie kennte das künftige Geschlecht, die Söhne, die geboren werden sollten, und sie aufständen und sie ihren Söhnen erzählten;
7 That they may place in God their hope, and not forget the doings of God, but observe his commandments;
und auf Gott ihr Vertrauen setzten, und die Taten Gottes nicht vergäßen, und seine Gebote bewahrten;
8 And that they may not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that had not directed their heart firmly, and whose spirit was not faithful to God.
und nicht würden wie ihre Väter, ein widersetzliches und widerspenstiges Geschlecht, ein Geschlecht, das sein Herz nicht befestigte, und dessen Geist nicht treu war gegen Gott.
9 The children of Ephraim, like well-armed archers, that turn round on the day of battle,
Die Söhne Ephraims, gerüstete Bogenschützen, wandten um am Tage des Kampfes.
10 Kept not the covenant of God, and in his law they refused to walk;
Sie hielten nicht den Bund Gottes und weigerten sich, in seinem Gesetz zu wandeln;
11 And they forgot his deeds, as also his wonders, which he had permitted them to see.
und sie vergaßen seine Taten und seine Wunderwerke, die er sie hatte schauen lassen.
12 In the presence of their fathers did he do wonders, in the land of Egypt, in the fields of Zo'an.
Er tat Wunder vor ihren Vätern, im Lande Ägypten, dem Gefilde Zoans.
13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters stand upright as a wall.
Er spaltete das Meer und ließ sie hindurchgehen, und ließ die Wasser stehen wie einen Damm.
14 And he led them with the cloud by day, and all the night with a light of fire.
Und er leitete sie des Tages mit der Wolke und die ganze Nacht mit dem Lichte eines Feuers.
15 He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the mighty deep.
Er spaltete Felsen in der Wüste und tränkte sie reichlich wie aus Tiefen.
16 And he brought forth running streams out of the rock, and caused water to run down like rivers.
Und er ließ Bäche hervorkommen aus dem Felsen und Wasser herablaufen gleich Flüssen.
17 But they repeated to sin yet more against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
Doch sie fuhren weiter fort, wider ihn zu sündigen, indem sie gegen den Höchsten widerspenstig waren in der Wüste.
18 And they tempted God in their heart, by asking food for their desire.
Und sie versuchten Gott in ihren Herzen, indem sie Speise forderten für ihr Gelüst.
19 Yea, they spoke against God: they said, Will God be able to set in order a table in the wilderness?
Und sie redeten wider Gott; sie sprachen: Sollte Gott in der Wüste einen Tisch zu bereiten vermögen?
20 Behold, he smote the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed: shall he also be able to give bread? or can he provide flesh for his people?
Siehe, den Felsen hat er geschlagen, und Wasser flossen heraus, und Bäche strömten; wird er auch Brot zu geben vermögen, oder wird er seinem Volke Fleisch verschaffen?
21 Therefore, when the Lord heard this, he became wroth: and a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also ascended against Israel,
Darum, als Jehova es hörte, ergrimmte er, und Feuer entzündete sich gegen Jakob, und auch Zorn stieg auf gegen Israel;
22 Because they had not believed in God, and had not trusted in his salvation.
weil sie Gott nicht glaubten und nicht vertrauten auf seine Rettung.
23 Then he ordained the skies from above, and the doors of heaven he opened;
Und doch hatte er den Wolken oben geboten und die Türen des Himmels geöffnet
24 And he let rain down upon them manna to eat, and the corn of heaven gave he unto them.
und Manna auf sie regnen lassen, damit sie äßen, und ihnen Himmelsgetreide gegeben.
25 Angels' bread did man eat: he sent them provision to satisfaction.
Der Mensch aß Brot der Starken, Speise sandte er ihnen bis zur Sättigung.
26 He caused an east wind to pass along the heavens; and he led forth by his strength the south wind.
Er führte den Ostwind herbei am Himmel, und durch seine Stärke trieb er herbei den Südwind;
27 And he let rain upon them flesh [as plentiful] as the dust, and winged birds like the sand of the sea;
und er ließ Fleisch auf sie regnen wie Staub, und geflügeltes Gevögel wie Sand der Meere,
28 And he let them fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
und ließ es fallen in ihr Lager, rings um ihre Wohnungen.
29 And they ate, and were greatly satisfied, and what they longed for he brought unto them.
Und sie aßen und sättigten sich sehr, und ihr Gelüst führte er ihnen zu.
30 They were not estranged from their longing, yet was their food in their mouth:
Noch hatten sie sich nicht abgewandt von ihrem Gelüst, noch war ihre Speise in ihrem Munde,
31 When the wrath of God ascended against them, and he slew some of the fattest of them, and the young men of Israel did he strike down.
da stieg der Zorn Gottes wider sie auf; und er würgte unter ihren Kräftigen, und die Auserlesenen Israels streckte er nieder.
32 With all this they sinned again, and believed not in his wonders.
Bei alledem sündigten sie wiederum und glaubten nicht durch seine Wunderwerke.
33 Therefore he caused their days to come to an end in nought, and their years in dread.
Da ließ er in Eitelkeit hinschwinden ihre Tage, und ihre Jahre in Schrecken.
34 When he slew them, then did they seek him, and they returned and inquired earnestly after God.
Wenn er sie tötete, dann fragten sie nach ihm, und kehrten um und suchten Gott eifrig;
35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the most high God their redeemer.
und sie gedachten daran, daß Gott ihr Fels sei, und Gott, der Höchste, ihr Erlöser.
36 Nevertheless they prayed insincerely to him with their mouth, and with their tongue they lied unto him.
Und sie heuchelten ihm mit ihrem Munde, und mit ihrer Zunge logen sie ihm;
37 For their heart was not firm with him, and they were not faithful in his covenant.
denn ihr Herz war nicht fest gegen ihn, und sie hielten nicht treulich an seinem Bunde.
38 But he, being merciful, forgave the iniquity, and destroyed [them] not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not awaken all his fury.
Er aber war barmherzig, er vergab die Ungerechtigkeit und verderbte sie nicht; und oftmals wandte er seinen Zorn ab und ließ nicht erwachen seinen ganzen Grimm.
39 And he remembered that they are but flesh, a spirit that passeth away, and returneth not again.
Und er gedachte daran, daß sie Fleisch seien, ein Hauch, der dahinfährt und nicht wiederkehrt.
40 How oft did they rebel against him in the wilderness, grieve him in the desert!
Wie oft waren sie widerspenstig gegen ihn in der Wüste, betrübten ihn in der Einöde!
41 Yea, they once more tempted God, and set limits to the Holy One of Israel.
Und sie versuchten Gott wiederum und kränkten den Heiligen Israels.
42 They remembered not his hand, the day when he ransomed them from the adversary;
Sie gedachten nicht an seine Hand, an den Tag, da er sie von dem Bedränger erlöste,
43 When he displayed in Egypt his signs, and his wonderful tokens in the fields of Zo'an.
als er seine Zeichen tat in Ägypten und seine Wunder in dem Gefilde Zoans:
44 And he changed their rivers into blood; and their running streams, that they could not drink [of them].
Er verwandelte ihre Ströme in Blut, so daß sie ihre fließenden Wasser nicht trinken konnten.
45 He sent out among them various wild beasts, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
Er sandte Hundsfliegen unter sie, welche sie fraßen, und Frösche, die sie verderbten.
46 And he gave unto the cricket their products, and their labor unto the locust.
Und er gab der Grille ihren Ertrag, und ihre Arbeit der Heuschrecke.
47 He slew with hail their vines, and their sycamore-trees with ice-bolts.
Ihren Weinstock schlug er nieder mit Hagel, und ihre Maulbeerfeigenbäume mit Schloßen.
48 And he surrendered to the hail their cattle, and their herds to the lightning's flashes.
Und er gab ihr Vieh dem Hagel preis, und ihre Herden den Blitzen.
49 He let loose against them the fierceness of his anger, wrath and indignation, and distress, a host of angels of misfortune.
Er ließ gegen sie los seines Zornes Glut, Wut und Grimm und Drangsal, eine Schar von Unglücksengeln.
50 He leveled a path for his anger; he withheld not from death their soul, and their life he surrendered to the pestilence;
Er bahnte seinem Zorne einen Weg, entzog nicht dem Tode ihre Seele und gab ihr Leben der Pest preis.
51 And he smote all the first-born in Egypt; the first of their strength in the tents of Ham;
Und er schlug alle Erstgeburt in Ägypten, die Erstlinge der Kraft in den Zelten Hams.
52 But he caused his own people to depart like flocks, and guided them like a drove in the wilderness.
Und er ließ sein Volk wegziehen gleich Schafen, und leitete sie gleich einer Herde in der Wüste;
53 And he led them in safety, so that they felt no dread; but the sea covered over their enemies.
und er führte sie sicher, so daß sie sich nicht fürchteten; und ihre Feinde bedeckte das Meer.
54 And he brought them to his holy territory, even to this mount, which his right hand had acquired.
Und er brachte sie zu der Grenze seines Heiligtums, zu diesem Berge, den seine Rechte erworben.
55 And he drove out from before them nations, and divided them by the measuring-line as an inheritance, and he caused to dwell in their tents the tribes of Israel.
Und er vertrieb Nationen vor ihnen, und verloste sie als Schnur des Erbteils und ließ in ihren Zelten wohnen die Stämme Israels.
56 Yet they tempted and rebelled against the most high God, and his testimonies they kept not;
Aber sie versuchten Gott, den Höchsten, und waren widerspenstig gegen ihn, und seine Zeugnisse bewahrten sie nicht.
57 But swerved aside, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers; they turned about like a deceitful bow.
Und sie wichen zurück und handelten treulos wie ihre Väter; sie wandten sich um gleich einem trügerischen Bogen.
58 And they provoked him to anger with their high-places, and with their graven images they moved him to jealousy.
Und sie erbitterten ihn durch ihre Höhen und reizten ihn zur Eifersucht durch ihre geschnitzten Bilder.
59 God heard this, and he became wroth, and felt greatly disgusted with Israel;
Gott hörte es und ergrimmte, und er verachtete Israel sehr.
60 And he cast off the dwelling at Shiloh, the tabernacle where he had dwelt among men;
Und er verließ die Wohnung zu Silo, das Zelt, welches er unter den Menschen aufgeschlagen hatte.
61 And he gave up his strength unto captivity, and his glory into the adversary's hand.
Und er gab in die Gefangenschaft seine Kraft, und seine Herrlichkeit in die Hand des Bedrängers.
62 And he surrendered his people unto the sword; and with his inheritance was he wroth.
Und er gab sein Volk dem Schwerte preis, und gegen sein Erbteil ergrimmte er.
63 His young men the fire devoured; and his virgins were not demanded in marriage.
Seine Jünglinge fraß das Feuer, und seine Jungfrauen wurden nicht besungen;
64 His priests fell by the sword; and his widows did not weep.
seine Priester fielen durch das Schwert, und seine Witwen weinten nicht.
65 Then awoke the Lord as one that sleepeth, like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
Da erwachte, gleich einem Schlafenden, der Herr, gleich einem Helden, der da jauchzt vom Wein;
66 And he smote his enemies backward: a perpetual disgrace on them.
und er schlug seine Feinde von hinten, gab ihnen ewige Schmach.
67 Yet was he disgusted with the tent of Joseph, and of the tribe of Ephraim he made not choice;
Und er verwarf das Zelt Josephs, und den Stamm Ephraim erwählte er nicht;
68 But he chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
sondern er erwählte den Stamm Juda, den Berg Zion, den er geliebt hat.
69 And he built like high [mountains] his sanctuary, like the earth which he hath founded for ever.
Und er baute gleich Höhen sein Heiligtum, gleich der Erde, die er auf ewig gegründet hat.
70 And he made choice of David his servant, and took him from the sheep-folds:
Und er erwählte David, seinen Knecht, und nahm ihn von den Hürden der Schafe;
71 From following the ewes with young he brought him, to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
hinter den Säugenden weg ließ er ihn kommen, um Jakob, sein Volk, zu weiden, und Israel, sein Erbteil.
72 And he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and by the skilfulness of his hands did he lead them.
Und er weidete sie nach der Lauterkeit seines Herzens, und mit der Geschicklichkeit seiner Hände leitete er sie.
