Joshua 15

1 And the lot for the tribe of the children of Judah after their families came by the border of Edom, with the wilderness of Zin, southward, as the uttermost southern boundary.

Wat door het lot aan de families van de stam der Judeërs werd toegewezen, strekte zich uit tot het gebied van Edom, van de woestijn Sin af tot Kadesj in het zuiden.

2 And their southern boundary was from the end of the salt sea, from the bay that bendeth southward:

Hun zuidelijke grens begon onderaan de Zoutzee, van de baai af, die zuidwaarts loopt;

3 And it went out to the south of the heights of 'Akrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Kadesh-barnea, and passed along to Chezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Karka';

zij boog ten zuiden van het hoge Akrabbim af, liep dan over Sin, en steeg naar het zuiden van Kadesj-Barnéa; vervolgens liep ze over Chasar-Addar, en met een bocht naar Karka;

4 And it passed on toward 'Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the terminations of the boundary were at the sea: this shall be your southern boundary.

verder ging ze naar Asmon, om uit te komen aan de beek van Egypte, zodat de grens uitliep op de zee. Dit was dus hun zuidelijke grens.

5 And the east boundary was the salt sea, unto the end of the Jordan. And the boundary in the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the end of the Jordan;

De oostelijke grens was de Zoutzee tot aan de monding van de Jordaan. De noordelijke grens begon bij de baai aan de uitmonding van de Jordaan;

6 And the boundary went up to Beth-choglah, and passed along by the north of Beth'arabah; and the boundary went up to Ebenbohan the son of Reuben;

ze steeg naar Bet-Chogla, liep ten noorden van Bet-Haäraba, naar de steen van Bóhan, den zoon van Ruben,

7 And the boundary went up toward Debir from the Valley of 'Achor, and at the north it bent toward Gilgal, that is opposite the heights of Adummim, which is on the south side of the valley; and the boundary passed toward the waters of 'En-shemesh, and its terminations were at En-rogel;

en vervolgens naar Debir, op enige afstand van de vallei van Akor; daarna boog ze noordwaarts naar Gilgal af, tegenover de pas van Adoemmim ten zuiden van de beek, en verder naar de wateren van En-Sjémesj, tot ze uitkwam bij En-Rogel.

8 And the boundary went up to the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite, the same is Jerusalem; and the boundary went up to the top of the mount that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of Rephaim northward;

Daarna steeg de grens door het Ben-Hinnomdal naar de zuidelijke bergrug der Jeboesieten, waar Jerusalem lag; verder steeg ze naar de top van de berg, die westelijk tegenover het Hinnomdal ligt, dat zich aan het noordelijk uiteinde van de vallei der Refaieten bevindt.

9 And the boundary extended from the top of the mount unto the spring of the waters of Nephtoach, and went out to the cities of mount 'Ephron; and the boundary extended to Ba'alah, which is Kiryath-ye'arim;

Van de top van de berg keerde de grens zich naar de bron van de wateren van Neftóach, kwam uit bij de steden van het Efrongebergte, en boog daarna om naar Baäla, ook Kirjat-Jearim geheten.

10 And the boundary compassed from Ba'alah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Ye'arim, which is Kessalon, on the north side, and went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed on to Timnah;

Vervolgens liep de grens van Baäla met een bocht westwaarts naar het Seïrgebergte, en verder over de bergrug van Jearim naar het noorden, waar Kesalon lag. Daarna daalde ze af naar Bet-Sjémesj en verder naar Timna,

11 And the boundary went out unto the side of 'Ekron northward; and the boundary extended to Shikron, and passed along to the mount of Ba'alah, and went out unto Yabneel; and the terminations of the boundary were at the sea.

tot het noorden van de bergrug van Ekron; dan boog ze naar Sjikkeron af, liep door over de berg Baäla, en kwam uit bij Jabneël, zodat de grens aan de zee eindigde.

12 And the west boundary was by the great sea, and the coast thereof. This is the boundary of the children of Judah round about according to their families.

De westelijke grens was de Grote Zee met haar kust. Dit zijn dan naar alle zijden de grenzen van de families der Judeërs.

13 And unto Caleb the son of Yephunneh he gave as a portion among the children of Judah, according to the order of the Lord to Joshua, Kiryath-arba' the father of 'Anak, which is Hebron.

Volgens Jahweh’s opdracht gaf Josuë aan Kaleb, den zoon van Jefoenne, een aandeel midden onder de Judeërs, namelijk Kirjat-Arba of Hebron; deze Arba was de vader van Anak.

14 And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of 'Anak, Sheshai, and Achiman, and Talmai, the children of 'Anak.

Daaruit verdreef Kaleb de drie Anaks-kinderen Sjesjai, Achiman en Talmai, de zonen van Anak.

15 And he went up from there to the inhabitants of Debir; and the name of Debir before was Kiryath-sepher.

Vandaar trok hij op tegen de bevolking van Debir; Debir werd vroeger Kirjat-Séfer genoemd.

16 And Caleb said, He that will smite Kiryath-sepher, and capture it, to him will I give 'Achsah my daughter for wife.

Toen zei Kaleb: Wie Kirjat-Séfer aanvalt en inneemt, geef ik mijn dochter Aksa tot vrouw.

17 And 'Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, captured it; and he gave him 'Achsah his daughter for wife.

Otniël, de zoon van Kenaz, de broer van Kaleb, nam het in; en deze gaf hem dus zijn dochter Aksa tot vrouw.

18 And it came to pass, as she came thither, that she persuaded him to ask of her father a field: and she alighted from her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What aileth thee?

Maar toen zij aankwam, spoorde hij haar aan, haar vader akkerland te vragen. Ze boog zich dus van den ezel neer, zodat Kaleb haar vroeg: Wat is er?

19 And she said, Give me a blessing; for a dry land hast thou given me: give me then also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

Ze zeide: Schenk mij een gift; nu ge mij eenmaal voor de Négeb bestemd hebt, moet ge mij ook waterbronnen geven. En hij gaf haar bronnen in het hoogland en laagland.

20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.

Dit was het erfdeel der families van de stam der Judeërs.

21 And the cities of the boundary line of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the border of Edom, on the south, were Kabzeel, and 'Eder, and Yagur,

De verst afgelegen steden van de stam der Judeërs in de Négeb, tegen het gebied van Edom aan, waren Kabseël, Eder, Jagoer,

22 And Kinah, and Dimonah, and 'Ad'adah,

Kina, Dimona, Adada,

23 And Kedesh, and Chazor, and Yithnan,

Kédesj, Chasor, Jitnan,

24 Ziph, and Telem, and Be'aloth,

Zif, Télem, Bealot,

25 And Chazor-chadattah, and Keriyoth-chezron, which is Chazor,

Chasor-Chadatta, Keri-jot-Chesron, dat is Chasor,

26 Amam, and Shema', and Moladah,

Amam, Sjema, Molada,

27 And Chazar-gaddah, and Cheshmon, and Beth-palet,

Chasar-Gadda, Chesjmon, Bet-Pélet,

28 And Chazar-shual, and Beer-sheba, and Bizyotheyah,

Chasar-Sjoeal, Beër-Sjéba en onderhorige plaatsen;

29 Ba'alah, and 'Iyim, and 'Azem,

Baäla, Ijjim, Esem,

30 And Eltolad, and Kessil, and Chormah,

Eltolad, Kesil, Chorma,

31 And Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah,

Sikelag, Madmanna, Sansanna,

32 And Lebaoth, and Shilchim, and 'Ayin, and Rimmon: in all twenty and nine cities, with their villages.

Lebaot, Sjilchim en En-Rimmon; in het geheel negen en twintig steden met haar dorpen.

33 And in the lowlands, Eshtaol, and Zor'ah, and Ashnah.

In de Sjefela: Esjtaol, Sora, Asjna,

34 And Zanoach, and 'En-gannim, Tappuach, and 'Enam,

Zanóach, En-Gannim, Tappóeach, Enam,

35 Yarmuth, and 'Adullam, Sochoh, and 'Azekah,

Jarmoet, Adoellam, Soko, Azeka,

36 And Sha'arayim, and 'Adithayim, and Gederah, and Gede-rothayim: fourteen cities with their villages.

Sjaäráim, Aditáim, Gedera en Gederotáim; veertien steden met haar dorpen.

37 Zenan, and Chadashah, and Migdalgad,

Senan, Chadasja, Migdal-Gad,

38 And Dil'an, and Mizpeh, and Yoktheel,

Dilan, Mispe, Jokteël,

39 Lachish, and Bozkath, and 'Eglon,

Lakisj, Boskat, Eglon,

40 And Cabbon, and Lachmass, and Kithlish,

Kabbon, Lachmas, Kitlisj,

41 And Gederoth, Beth-dagon, and Na'amah, and Makkedah: sixteen cities with their villages.

Gederot, Bet-Dagon, Naäma en Makkeda; zestien steden met haar dorpen.

42 Libnah, and 'Ether, and 'Ashan,

Libna, Éter, Asjan,

43 And Yiphtach, and Ashnah, and Nezib,

Jiftach, Asjna, Nesib,

44 And Ke'ilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah: nine cities with their villages.

Keïla, Akzib en Maresja; negen steden met haar dorpen.

45 'Ekron, with its towns and its villages:

Ekron met onderhorige plaatsen en dorpen.

46 From 'Ekron even unto the sea, all that lay alongside of Ashdod, with their villages.

Van Ekron af naar de zee alle plaatsen met haar dorpen, terzijde van Asjdod;

47 Ashdod with its towns and its villages, Gazzah, with its towns and its villages, up to the brook of Egypt, and the great sea, and its territory.

Asjdod en Gaza met beider onderhorige plaatsen en dorpen, tot aan de beek van Egypte; de Grote Zee en de kuststreek waren hier de grens.

48 And in the mountains, Shamir, and Yattir, and Sochoh,

In het bergland: Sjamir, Jattir, Soko,

49 And Dannah and Kiryath-sannah, which is Debir,

Danna, Kirjat-Sanna, ook Debir geheten;

50 And 'Anab, and Eshtemoh, and 'Anim.

Anab, Esjtemo, Anim,

51 And Goshen, and Cholon, and Giloh: eleven cities with their villages.

Gósjen, Cholon en Gilo; elf steden met haar dorpen.

52 Arab, and Dumah, and Esh'an,

Arab, Doema, Esjan,

53 And Vanum, and Beth-tappuach, and Aphekah,

Janim, Bet-Tappóeach, Afeka,

54 And Chumtah, and Kiryath-arba', which is Hebron, and Zi'or: nine cities with their villages.

Choemta, Kirjat-Arba, ook Hebron geheten, en Sior; negen steden met haar dorpen.

55 Ma'on, Carmel, and Ziph, and Yutah,

Maon, Karmel, Zif, Joetta,

56 And Yizre'el, and Yokde'am, and Zanoach,

Jizreël, Jokdeam, Zanóeach,

57 Kayin, Gib'ah, and Timnah: ten cities with their villages.

Hakkájin, Giba en Timna; tien steden met haar dorpen.

58 Chatchul, Beth-zur, and Gedor,

Chalchoel, Bet-Soer, Gedor.

59 And Ma'arath, and Beth-'anoth, and Eltekon: six cities with their village.

Maärat, Bet-Anot, Eltekon; zes steden met haar dorpen. Tekóa, Efráta of Betlehem, Peor, Etam, Kolan, Tetam, Sores, Kérem, Gallim, Béter en Menocho; elf steden met haar dorpen.

60 Kiryath-baal, which is Kiryath-ye'arim, and Rabbah; two cities with their villages.

Kirjat-Báal, ook Kirjat-Jearim geheten, en Harabba; twee steden met haar dorpen.

61 In the wilderness, Beth-ha'arabah, Middin, and Sechachah,

In de woestijn: Bet-Haäraba, Middin, Sekaka,

62 And Nibshan, and 'Ir-hammelach, and 'En-gedi: six cities with their villages.

Nibsjan, Ir-Hammélach en En-Gédi; zes steden met haar dorpen.

63 As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, these the children of Judah could not drive out; but the Jebusites dwelt with the children of Judah at Jerusalem, even unto this day.

Wat de Jeboesieten betreft, die in Jerusalem woonden, hen konden de Judeërs niet uitdrijven, zodat de Jeboesieten tezamen met de Judeërs in Jerusalem wonen tot op de huidige dag.
