Deuteronomy 25
1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come nigh unto a court of justice, and they judge them; and they justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked:
மனிதர்களுக்கிடையில் வழக்கு ஏற்படும்போது, அவர்கள் அதை நீதிமன்றத்திற்குக் கொண்டுசெல்ல வேண்டும். நீதிபதிகள் வழக்கை விசாரித்து குற்றமற்றவனை விடுவித்து, குற்றவாளிக்கு தண்டனை வழங்குவார்கள்.
2 Then shall it be, if the guilty man deserve to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to the degree of his fault, by a [certain] number.
குற்றவாளிக்கு அடிக்கப்படும் தண்டனையே தீர்க்கப்பட்டால், நீதிபதி அவனைக் கீழே கிடத்துவித்து தனது முன்னிலையில் அவனை அடிக்கவேண்டும். அவனுடைய குற்றத்திற்கு ஏற்ற எண்ணிக்கையின்படி கசையடி கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.
3 Forty stripes may he give him, not more; so that he shall not exceed to have him beaten above these with too many stripes, and thy brother be thus rendered vile before thy eyes.
ஆனால் அவனை நாற்பது அடிகளுக்குமேல் அடிக்கவேண்டாம். அதற்குமேல் அடிக்கப்பட்டால், உங்கள் சகோதரன் உங்கள் பார்வையில் இழிவாகக் காணப்படுவான்.
4 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he thresheth out the corn.
தானியக்கதிரை போரடிக்கும் எருதின் வாயைக் கட்டவேண்டாம்.
5 If brothers dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child: then shall the wife of the dead not be married abroad, unto a stranger; her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to himself for wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her.
சகோதரர்கள் ஒன்றாய் வாழும்போது, அவர்களில் ஒருவன் மகனைப்பெறாமல் இறந்தால், அவனுடைய விதவை மனைவி குடும்பத்திற்கு வெளியே திருமணம் செய்யக்கூடாது. அவளுடைய கணவனின் சகோதரன் அவளைத் தன்னுடன் சேர்த்து, திருமணம் செய்து அவளுக்கு மைத்துனன் செய்யவேண்டிய கடமையை நிறைவேற்றவேண்டும்.
6 And it shall be, that the first-born whom she may bear shall succeed in the name of his brother who is dead; so that his name be not blotted out of Israel.
இறந்தவனுடைய பெயர் இஸ்ரயேலில் அற்றுப்போகாமல், அவள் பெறும் முதல் ஆண்பிள்ளைக்கு தன் சகோதரனுடைய பெயரை கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.
7 And if the man have no desire to take his sister-in-law: then shall his sister-in-law go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform on me the duty of a husband's brother.
ஆனாலும், இறந்தவனின் மனைவியை அவனுடைய சகோதரன் திருமணம் செய்ய விரும்பாவிட்டால், அவள் அப்பட்டண வாசலிலுள்ள சபைத்தலைவர்களிடம் போய், “என் கணவனின் சகோதரன் தன் சகோதரனின் பெயரை இஸ்ரயேலில் நிலைப்படுத்த மறுக்கிறான். ஒரு மைத்துனன் செய்யவேண்டிய கடமையை அவன் எனக்குச் செய்யமாட்டேன் என்கிறான்” என்று சொல்லவேண்டும்.
8 Then shall the elders of his city call him, and speak unto him; and if he persist, and say, I have no desire to take her:
அப்பொழுது, அவனுடைய பட்டணத்து சபைத்தலைவர்கள் அவனை அழைப்பித்து, அவனுடன் பேசவேண்டும். “அவளை நான் திருமணம் செய்ய விரும்பவில்லை” என்று அவன் தொடர்ந்து சொன்னால்,
9 Then shall his sister-in-law come nigh unto him in the presence of the elders, and pull his shoe from off his foot, and spit out before him, and shall commence and say, Thus shall be done unto that man that will not build up his brother's house.
அவனுடைய சகோதரனின் விதவை மனைவி சபைத்தலைவர்களின் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக அவனுடைய செருப்பை எடுத்து, அவன் முகத்தில் துப்பி, “தன் சகோதரனுடைய குடும்பத்தைக் கட்டி எழுப்பாதவனுக்கு இப்படியே செய்யவேண்டும்” என்று சொல்லவேண்டும்.
10 And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of the barefooted.
அப்படிப்பட்டவனின் பரம்பரை, செருப்பு கழற்றப்பட்டவனின் குடும்பம் என இஸ்ரயேலில் சொல்லப்படும்.
11 When men strive together one with the other, and the wife of the one draweth near to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
இரண்டு மனிதர்கள் சண்டையிடும்பொழுது அவர்களில் ஒருவனின் மனைவி, தன் கணவனை அடிக்கிறவனிடமிருந்து காப்பாற்றும்படி வந்து, அவள் தன் கையை நீட்டி, அவனுடைய ஆணுறுப்பைப் பிடித்தால்,
12 Then shalt thou cut off her hand, thy eye shall not have pity.
நீங்கள் அவளின் கையை வெட்டிவிடவேண்டும். அவளுக்கு அனுதாபம் காட்டவேண்டாம்.
13 Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.
பாரம் கூடியதும், பாரம் குறைந்ததுமான இரண்டு வெவ்வேறு ஏமாற்றும் படிக்கற்களை பையிலே வைத்திருக்கவேண்டாம்.
14 Thou shalt not have in thy house divers measures, a great and a small.
அளவைகளிலும் பெரிதும் சிறிதுமான இரண்டு வெவ்வேறு ஏமாற்றும் அளவைகளை உங்கள் வீட்டில் வைத்திருக்கவேண்டாம்.
15 A perfect and just weight shalt thou have, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have; in order that thy days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee;
சரியானதும், நீதியானதுமான படிக்கற்களும், அளவைகளுமே உங்களிடம் இருக்கவேண்டும். அப்பொழுது உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா உங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கும் நாட்டில் நீங்கள் நீடித்து வாழ்வீர்கள்.
16 For an abomination of the Lord thy God is every one that doth such things, every one that acteth unrighteously.
இப்படிப்பட்ட நேர்மையற்ற அநீதியான நடத்தை உள்ளவன் எவனையும், உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா அருவருக்கிறார்.
17 Remember what 'Amalek did unto thee, by the way, at your coming forth out of Egypt;
நீங்கள் எகிப்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு வரும்பொழுது வழியிலே அமலேக்கியர் உங்களுக்குச் செய்ததை நினைத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள்.
18 How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, all that were feeble behind thee, when thou was faint and weary; and he feared not God.
நீங்கள் இளைத்துச் சோர்வுற்று இருக்கையில் அவர்கள் உங்களை வழியிலே சந்தித்து, பின்னாலே தளர்வுற்று வந்தவர்களை வெட்டினார்களே! அவர்களோ இறைவனுக்குப் பயப்படவில்லை.
19 And it shall come to pass, when the Lord thy God giveth thee rest from all thy enemies round about, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of 'Amalek from under the heavens: thou shalt not forget.
ஆகவே உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா நீங்கள் உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்ளும்படி உங்களுக்கு உரிமைச்சொத்தாகக் கொடுக்கும் நாட்டில், உங்களைச்சூழ உள்ள எல்லா பகைவர்களிடமிருந்தும் உங்களுக்கு இளைப்பாறுதலைத் தருவார். அப்பொழுது வானத்தின் கீழெங்கும் அமலேக்கியரின் ஞாபகமே இராதபடி அவர்களை அழித்துவிடுங்கள். இதை மறக்கவேண்டாம்.
