2 Kings 13

1 In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Achazyahu the king of Judah became Jehoachaz the son of Jehu king over Israel in Samaria [for] seventeen years.

ユダの王アハジヤの子ヨアシの第二十三年にエヒウの子エホアハズはサマリヤでイスラエルの王となり、十七年世を治めた。

2 And he did what is evil in the eyes of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jerobo'am the son of Nebat, who induced Israel to sin: he departed not therefrom.

彼は主の目の前に悪を行い、イスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムの罪を行いつづけて、それを離れなかった。

3 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel; and he gave them up into the hand of Chazael the king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Chazael, all the time.

そこで主はイスラエルに対して怒りを発し、エホアハズの治世の間、絶えずイスラエルをスリヤの王ハザエルの手にわたし、またハザエルの子ベネハダデの手にわたされた。

4 And Jehoachaz besought the Lord; and the Lord hearkened unto him; for he saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Syria oppressed them.

しかしエホアハズが主に願い求めたので、主はついにこれを聞きいれられた。スリヤの王によって悩まされたイスラエルの悩みを見られたからである。

5 (And the Lord gave Israel a deliverer, so that they came out from under the power of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as in times past.

それで主がひとりの救助者をイスラエルに賜わったので、イスラエルの人々はスリヤびとの手をのがれ、前のように自分たちの天幕に住むようになった。

6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jerobo'am, who induced Israel to sin, therein the people walked: and the Asherah also remained standing in Samaria.)

それにもかかわらず、彼らはイスラエルに罪を犯させたヤラベアムの家の罪を離れず、それを行いつづけた。またアシラの像もサマリヤに立ったままであった。

7 For he had left of people to Jehoachaz none but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand men on foot; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust at threshing.

さきにスリヤの王が彼らを滅ぼし、踏み砕くちりのようにしたのでエホアハズの軍勢で残ったものは、ただ騎兵五十人、戦車十両、歩兵一万人のみであった。

8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoachaz, and all that he did, and his mighty deeds, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

エホアハズその他の事績と、彼がしたすべての事およびその武勇は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。

9 And Jehoachaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son became king in his stead.

エホアハズは先祖たちと共に眠ったので、彼をサマリヤに葬った。その子ヨアシが代って王となった。

10 In the thirty and seventh year of Joash the king of Judah became Jehoash the son of Jehoachaz king over Israel in Samaria, [for] sixteen years.

ユダの王ヨアシの第三十七年に、エホアハズの子ヨアシはサマリヤでイスラエルの王となり、十六年世を治めた。

11 And he did what is evil in the eyes of the Lord; he departed not from all the sins of Jerobo'am the son of Nebat, who induced Israel to sin: therein he walked.

彼は主の目の前に悪を行い、イスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムのもろもろの罪を離れず、それに歩んだ。

12 And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his mighty deeds wherewith he fought against Amazyah the king of Judah, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

ヨアシのその他の事績と、彼がしたすべての事およびユダの王アマジヤと戦ったその武勇は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。

13 And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jerobo'am sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

ヨアシは先祖たちと共に眠って、ヤラベアムがその位に座した。そしてヨアシはイスラエルの王たちと同じくサマリヤに葬られた。

14 Now Elisha' was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he had to die. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and their horsemen.

さてエリシャは死ぬ病気にかかっていたが、イスラエルの王ヨアシは下ってきて彼の顔の上に涙を流し、「わが父よ、わが父よ、イスラエルの戦車よ、その騎兵よ」と言った。

15 And Elisha' said unto him, Fetch a bow and arrows. And he fetched unto him a bow and arrows.

エリシャは彼に「弓と矢を取りなさい」と言ったので、弓と矢を取った。

16 And he said to the king of Israel, Place thy hand upon the bow. And he placed his hand [upon it]: and Elisha' laid his hands upon the king's hands.

エリシャはまたイスラエルの王に「弓に手をかけなさい」と言ったので、手をかけた。するとエリシャは自分の手を王の手の上におき、

17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then said Elisha', Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of victory from the Lord, and the arrow of victory over Syria; and thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till they be consumed.

「東向きの窓をあけなさい」と言ったので、それをあけると、エリシャはまた「射なさい」と言った。彼が射ると、エリシャは言った、「主の救の矢、スリヤに対する救の矢。あなたはアペクでスリヤびとを撃ち破り、彼らを滅ぼしつくすであろう」。

18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Strike upon the ground. And he struck three times, and stopped.

エリシャはまた「矢を取りなさい」と言ったので、それを取った。エリシャはまたイスラエルの王に「それをもって地を射なさい」と言ったので、三度射てやめた。

19 And the man of God was angry with him, and said, Thou shouldst have struck five or six times; then wouldst thou have smitten the Syrians till they had been consumed: whereas now thou shalt smite the Syrians three times.

すると神の人は怒って言った、「あなたは五度も六度も射るべきであった。そうしたならば、あなたはスリヤを撃ち破り、それを滅ぼしつくすことができたであろう。しかし今あなたはそうしなかったので、スリヤを撃ち破ることはただ三度だけであろう」。

20 And Elisha' died, and they buried him. And the predatory bands of Moabites frequently invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

こうしてエリシャは死んで葬られた。さてモアブの略奪隊は年が改まるごとに、国にはいって来るのを常とした。

21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they saw the band; and they cast down the man into the sepulchre of Elisha': and as the man came, and touched the bones of Elisha', he revived, and rose up on his feet.

時に、ひとりの人を葬ろうとする者があったが、略奪隊を見たので、その人をエリシャの墓に投げ入れて去った。その人はエリシャの骨に触れるとすぐ生きかえって立ちあがった。

22 But Chazael the king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoachaz.

スリヤの王ハザエルはエホアハズの一生の間、イスラエルを悩ましたが、

23 And the Lord became gracious unto them, and had mercy on them, and turned his regard unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, and he cast them not off from his presence even until now.

主はアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブと結ばれた契約のゆえにイスラエルを恵み、これをあわれみ、これを顧みて滅ぼすことを好まず、なおこれをみ前から捨てられなかった。

24 And Chazael the king of Syria died: and Ben-hadad his son became king in his stead.

スリヤの王ハザエルはついに死んで、その子ベネハダデが代って王となった。

25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoachaz took again the cities out of the power of Ben-hadad the son of Chazael, which he had taken out of the power of Jehoachaz his father in the war. Three times did Joash beat him, and he recovered the cities of Israel.

そこでエホアハズの子ヨアシは、父エホアハズがハザエルに攻め取られた町々を、ハザエルの子ベネハダデの手から取り返した。すなわちヨアシは三度彼を撃ち破って、イスラエルの町々を取り返した。
