< 1 Chronicles 12 >

1 And these are those that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they were among the mighty men, confederates for the war,
And these [are] they that came to Sikelag, when he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kis; and these [were] among the mighty, aiding [him] in war,
2 Who were armed with bows, and could use both the right and the left hand in [hurling] stones and shooting arrows with the bow, even of the brethren of Saul out of Benjamin.
and [using] the bow with the right hand and with the left, and slingers with stones, and [shooters] with bows. Of the brethren of Saul of Benjamin,
3 The chiefs were Achi'ezer, then Joash, the sons of Hashema'ab the Gib'athite; and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of 'Azmaveth; and Berachah, and Jehu the 'Anthothite,
the chief [was] Achiezer, and Joas son of Asma the Gabathite, and Joel and Jophalet, sons of Asmoth, and Berchia, and Jeul of Anathoth,
4 And Yishma'yah the Gib'onite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty; and Jeremiah, and Jachaziel, and Jochanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite,
and Samaias the Gabaonite a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty; [and] Jeremia, and Jeziel, and Joanan, and Jozabath of Gadarathiim,
5 El'uzai, and Jerimath, and Be'alyah, and Shemaryahu, and Shephatyahu, the Chariphite,
Azai and Arimuth, and Baalia, and Samaraia, and Saphatias of Charaephiel,
6 Elkanah, and Yishiyahu, and 'Azarel, and Jo'ezer, and Jashob'am, the Korchites,
Helcana, and Jesuni, and Ozriel, and Jozara, and Sobocam, and the Corites,
7 And Jo'elah, and Zebadyah, the sons of Jerocham of Gedor.
and Jelia and Zabadia, sons of Iroam, and the [men] of Gedor.
8 And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the strong-hold in the wilderness mighty men of valor, and men of the army for the war, that could handle shield and lance, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as the roebucks upon the mountains in swiftness.
And from Gad these separated themselves to David from the wilderness, strong mighty men of war, bearing shields and spears, and their faces [were as] the face of a lion, and they were nimble as roes upon the mountains in speed.
9 'Ezer was the chief, 'Ohadiah the second, Eliab the third,
Aza the chief, Abdia the second, Eliab the third,
10 Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth.
Masmana the fourth, Jeremias the fifth,
11 'Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
Jethi the sixth, Eliab the seventh,
12 Jochanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
Joanan the eighth, Eleazer the ninth,
13 Jirmiyahu the tenth, Machbanai the eleventh.
Jeremia the tenth, Melchabanai the eleventh.
14 These were of the sons of Gad, the chiefs of the army, one of the least could fight with a hundred, and the greatest with a thousand.
These [were] chiefs of the army of the sons of Gad, the least one commander of a hundred, and the greatest one of a thousand.
15 These are those that passed over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all the men of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.
These [are] the [men] that crossed over Jordan in the first month, and it had overflowed all its banks; and they drove out all the inhabitants of the valleys, from the east to the west.
16 And there came some of the children of Benjamin and of Judah as far as the strong-hold unto David.
And there came [some] of the sons of Benjamin and Juda to the assistance of David.
17 And David went out to meet them, and commenced and said unto them. If ye be come for peace unto me, to help me, my heart shall be inclined toward you to unite with you; but if it be to betray me to my adversaries while there is no violence in my hands, then may the God of our fathers look on and decide it.
And David went out to meet them, and said to them, If you are come peaceably to me, let my heart be at peace with you: but if [you are come] to betray me to my enemies unfaithfully, the God of your fathers look upon it, and reprove it.
18 Then a spirit invested 'Amassai, the chief of the captains, [who said, ] Thine are we, David, and with thee, O son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to every one that helpeth thee; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and placed them at the head of the troop.
And the Spirit came upon Amasai, a captain of the thirty, and he said, Go, David, son of Jesse, you and your people, peace, peace be to you, and peace to your helpers, for your God has helped you. And David received them, and made them captains of the forces.
19 And some of Menasseh went over to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle; but he helped them not; for upon consultation did the lords of the Philistines send him away, saying, With our heads will he go over to his master Saul.
And [some] came to David from Manasse, when the Philistines came against Saul to war: and he helped them not, because the captains of the Philistines took counsel, saying, With the heads of those men will he return to his master Saul.
20 As he was going over to Ziklag, there went over to him of Menasseh, 'Adnach, and Jozabad, and Jedi'ael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of the thousands that belonged to Menasseh.
When David was going to Sikelag, there came to him of Manasse, Edna and Jozabath, and Rodiel, and Michael, and Josabaith, and Elimuth, and Semathi: [these] are the captains of thousands of Manasse.
21 And they were those that helped David against the band [of 'Amelekites]; for they were all mighty men of valor, and they became officers in the army.
And they fought on the side of David against a troop, for they [were] all men of might; and they were commanders in the army, [because] of [their] might.
22 For all the time, day by day, people used to come to David to help him, until the camp became great, like the camp of God.
For daily men came to David, [till they amounted] to a great force, as the force of God.
23 And these are the numbers of the heads of those ready armed for the host that came to David to Hebron, to turn over the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the order of the Lord.
And these [are] the names of the commanders of the army, who came to David to Chebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him according to the word of the Lord.
24 The children of Judah that bore shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, ready armed for the host.
The sons of Juda, bearing shields and spears, six thousand and eight hundred mighty in war.
25 Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valor for the host, seven thousand and one hundred.
Of the sons of Symeon mighty for battle, seven thousand and a hundred.
26 Of the children of Levi four thousand and six hundred.
Of the sons of Levi, four thousand and six hundred.
27 And Jehoyada' was the leader of the family of Aaron, and with him were three thousand and seven hundred.
And Joadas the chief [of the family] of Aaron, and with him three thousand and seven hundred.
28 Also Zadok, a young man, mighty of valor, and his family division twenty and two chiefs.
And Sadoc, a young [man] mighty in strength, and [there were] twenty-two leaders of his father's house.
29 And of the children of Benjamin, the brethren of Saul, three thousand; for till that time the greatest part of them had kept the charge of the house of Saul.
And of the sons of Benjamin, the brethren of Saul, three thousand: and still the greater part of them kept the guard of the house of Saul.
30 And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valor, men of fame in their family divisions.
And of the sons of Ephraim, twenty thousand and eight hundred mighty men, famous in the houses of their fathers.
31 And of the half tribe of Menasseh eighteen thousand, who had been expressed by name, to come to make David king.
And of the half-tribe of Manasse, eighteen thousand, even [those] who were named by name, to make David king.
32 And of the children of Issachar, those who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, —their heads were two hundred; and all their brethren were ready at their order.
And of the sons of Issachar having wisdom with regard to the times, knowing what Israel should do, two hundred; and all their brethren with them.
33 Of Zebulun, such as went forth to the host, arrayed for battle, with all manner of weapons of war, fifty thousand; and these were ready to place themselves in battle array with an undivided heart.
And of Zabulon they that went out to battle, with all weapons of war, [were] fifty thousand to help David, not weak-handed.
34 And of Naphtali one thousand captains, and with them were with shield and spear thirty and seven thousand.
And of Nephthali a thousand captains, and with them [men] with shields and spears, thirty-seven thousand.
35 And of the Danites arrayed for battle twenty and eight thousand and six hundred.
And of the Danites [men] ready for war twenty-eight thousand and eight hundred.
36 And of Asher, such as went forth to the host to put themselves in battle array, forty thousand.
And of Aser, they that went out to give aid in war, forty thousand.
37 And from the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Menasseh, with all manner of weapons of the host for war, one hundred and twenty thousand.
And from the country beyond Jordan, from Ruben, and the Gadites, and from the half-tribe of Manasse, a hundred and twenty thousand, with all weapons of war.
38 All these men of war, that placed themselves in battle array, came with an entire heart to Hebron, to make David King over all Israel; and also all the rest of Israel were of one heart to make David king.
All these [were] men of war, setting [the army] in battle array, with a peaceful mind [towards him], and they came to Chebron to make David king over all Israel: and the rest of Israel [were of] one mind to make David king.
39 And they were there with David three days eating and drinking; for their brethren had prepared for them.
And they were there three days eating and drinking, for their brethren [had] made preparations.
40 And also those that were nigh unto them, as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought in bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, food made of meal, cakes of figs, and bunches of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance; for there was joy in Israel.
And their neighbors, as far as Issachar and Zabulon and Nephthali, brought to them upon camels, and asses, and mules, and upon calves, food, meal, cakes of figs, raisins, wine, and oil, calves and sheep abundantly: for [there was] joy in Israel.
